Just love to stay at Makati Shangrila ! I always stay here 2 days before my departure back to USA to relax and unwind after a week or 2 of nonstop traveling visiting with friends and relatives. My favorite time is breakfast at Circles Cafe where the staff makes you feel right at home .A special thanks to Bella, Noel, Lovely, Joseph, Tina who gave exceptional service during our stay on 3/23 and 3/24.
The staff at the Makati Shangri-La are the best! They anticipate guests' needs and are exceptionally attentive and courteous at every turn. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable with some interesting art to enjoy, and the breakfast has a delicious option for everyone.
"Still up to par "
Makati Shangri-La Hotel has been one of the premier hotels in Makati in the late 90s to early 2000's. The hotel clearly needs a good renovation not because it is dilapidated but because its design is not as new and the amenities are outdated. Pros: - Excellent service - Clean rooms - Great view of the Makati skyline - Accessible to public transport - Flavourful dishes and excellent variety for their breakfast c/o Circle restaurant - Complete amenities with own tennis courts - Good wifi connection. No need for username/password. Auto connect - Grand lobby and ballrooms - Easy check-in and Check-out Cons: - Old design (need to update interiors of hotel) - No bidet at toilets - Needs refurbishing of hotel toilets - No sun shade (umbrellas) in pool area - Not strict with pool rules and regulations (people can swim even without proper swim suit) - Limited space in pool area(guests tend to converge in the bar)
"Central location - pretty good but tired"
Great breakfast, large room but hotel has a somewhat tired, in need of new carpet feel to it. Bar is pleasant and lobby remains great for meetings. The gym is large and well equipped, and open 24/7. Japanese restaurant was good but as always pricey. Not likely to return unless there is a real need to be there specifically when I think Makati has lots of choice.
"Several problems and then charged twice for the same stay!"
I stayed for 5 nights in late Feb as I had meetings in the Makati area. I have stayed at this Shangri-La before and service has been good, consistent with the expensive room rate. This time was different, starting with a 15 minute wait at check-in. When I eventually got to the front of the queue, the agent was also dealing with other phone calls and tried to sell me an upgrade 3 times during the check-in process; this after I had already declined an email invitation to do so. How many times do you have to say no' The queue to get in to breakfast was up to 15 minutes on most days, and something as basic as getting a cup of tea proved impossible, even after ordering from the waitress. On 2 days I returned to my table to find someone else had been seated there! Yes, it was busy, but why can't the basics of service be delivered' There were defects in the room (lights, power point) that I reported but were not fixed. I completed their on-line survey after check-out, bringing these problems to their attention, but have not had a reply. Now, 3 weeks after check-out, I find Shangri-La have billed my credit card a second time for my stay. When I called to complain, they said they had not received the payment so had billed my card again, even though my credit card company confirm the first transaction was successful. They tell me they need to investigate but it will take 4 weeks to issue the credit! I find this completely unacceptable. The overall experience is not what Shangri-La promote. And check your credit card bill carefully after staying here!
