The Mamaison Riverside Hotel in Prague is located in the trendy business district of Anděl, near the Nový Smíchov shopping centre. It is only a 20-minute walk to the Charles Bridge, Malá Strana, the Old Town, and to Prague Castle. Over 130 shops and restaurants along with 2 multiplex cinema centres at Nový Smíchov promise plenty of variety and endless shopping pleasure.
"Beautiful hotel in beautiful location"
We booked a superior room - and it was lovely. Whole hotel is beautifully decorated, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were great. We had a 3rd floor room and the views over the river and city were stunning. We love walking, and if there was a downside to this hotel for anyone who didn't, it would be the location. It was about 1.5 miles to the Old Town from the hotel - very flat walk, but all the streets are cobbled. Would certainly recommend this hotel.
"First class accommodation "
This hotel was just what we were looking for,far enough away from the centre of it all but not too far that you can't walk either to the old town, castle and the new town. (Old town about 15/20 minutes on foot) castle the same. Th hotel is lovely, with very helpful and friendly staff. Very clean, was cleaned every day even fresh towels. We had a deluxe riverview room, could not fault this. Breakfast was great, everything you want, not much on the cooked side of it so don't go expecting a full English because you'll be disappointed, but you did get bacon, eggs sausage and mushrooms. As well as plenty of cereal, including porridge, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, toast and a selection of breads and croissants. Also good choice of tea, coffee and good choice of fruit juices. There is quite a few good quality restaurants within 5 minutes walk, if you want an evening meal but you don't want to walk back into town. Overall I would love to go back to Prague and wouldn't hesitate in booking the Mamaison again.
"Friendly, clean and quiet"
I stayed with 3 friends in 2 rooms- both had a river view. We were greeted warmly by English speaking staff, shown to our rooms- which were close to each other as requested- and the rooms were lovely and clean, spacious, light and airy. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Nothing was too much trouble- even if you forgot your toothbrush as one of our party did! We didn't eat at the hotel as breakfast is quite an event in Prague so we visited The Savoy on the first morning and as it was so good, we booked for breakfast on the last day too. Breakfast is available at the hotel for 15Euros but we wanted to sample typical breakfasts. The Hotel is situated perfectly on the castle side of the river- not far from anywhere really and being a little out of the centre, we were able to get around easily and find quieter, quality places to eat. Would certainly stay at this hotel again.
"Request a riverview room."
Stayed here with a large group and the staff were very accommodating. Whilst not in the touristy area of the city, the Old town and Castle are only a 15 minute walk along the river. Request a riverview room and you will have beautiful views of the city.
I've stayed at this hotel twice now over the past few months, and unfortunately it's not one that I will be returning to. In it's favour, the hotel is in a superb position overlooking the river, in walking distance of the Novy Smichov mall, Andel Metro, and a river crossing practically on the doorstep. Rooms are excellent in size, much more spacious than most modern hotels, and there's a decent room service menu if you're spending the night in. Unfortunately for me, all of this counts for little due to the beds. Each of the two rooms I've stayed in have been river view rooms, and each had the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever slept on. Actually, that's a poor turn of phrase as the one thing I didn't really manage was to sleep. The mattresses are not sprung but are instead the foam block types. For a 4* hotel I find this a very poor offering as foam mattresses simply don't offer a decent level of comfort. This is very much my personal view/taste, there may be people who prefer the solidness of a foam mattresses. But not me. I also struggled hugely with the 'free' wifi which was exceptionally slow and even downloading emails took minutes. True, the hotel does offer stronger wifi packages at a cost, however free wifi is an important booking criteria for me so I'm not a fan of paying to upgrade because the free service offered isn't fit for purpose. The rooms are also not ageing well despite having only been refurbished in the past few years. My most recent room had splits and exposed rough edges in the wooden flooring, a scratched and damaged desk in need to some care and attention, and a heavily stained carpet around the bed. Add to this a minibar with a glass door and an internal light, with no external cupboard door to shield it resulting in the room being bathed in the warm glow of the minibar light all night! It's a real shame as I genuinely love the size of the rooms and the location. However mattresses of this quality, weak 'free' wifi and the general poor condition means this hotel doesn't match the price point the rooms are offered at.
