"What a way to start the day - Restaurant Review"
We stumbled upon this beautiful restaurant by chance as we were trying to find the river on our first day. We popped in for breakfast and we are so glad we did. A beautiful place and so well decorated & the staff are very attentive. Our waitress, well what can I say, Veronica was the best, I am actually struggling to find the word but a smile comes on my face every time I think of her. What a treasure and a HUGE asset to the place. We all had eggs for breakfast in different ways with bacon and with a lot of instructions on how each of us liked things cooked some fussier than others! All our food was perfect accompanied with homemade breads and croissants. We didn't eat again till dinner. Veronica's English was impeccable understood everything that was asked for and what a character she is; fabulous sense of humour, attentive, warm & caring person and absolutely brilliant at her job and I would employ her in a blink of any eye. Veronica's love and pride for her city and country was a breath of fresh air. We enjoyed this place so much we returned every morning of our trip for our breakfast. Our last morning Veronica sent us on our way with a smile & hug. we really will miss this place. The prices were reasonable and not expensive. We had been conned on our first afternoon in the city so were being very careful, Veronica asked if everything was okay when we were looking at our menu so we explained. She was genuinely annoyed that this had happened to us in her city and explained what we should be paying for things and what was too much etc, this turned out to be a real help for us for the remainder of our stay. (it was the only time we had a problem) If we do get to return to Prague as we did all fall in love with the city this little gem will be our first port of call.
My wife and I spent the weekend in Prague staying at the Pachtuv Palace. Outstanding location, 5 mins from Charles Bridge and Old Town. Had a room overlooking the river. Service was excellent and staff were very helpful. Wouldn't stay anywhere else.
"Felt like a Queen in this Palace"
I was celebrating a special time and the hotel had good reviews and location. I had only a small hiccup in the check-in as I arrived early. But they worked it out and they were able to accommodate me with minimal timing delay. As I did not have a view in my room, it was located in the corner and was very quiet and well appointed. There is a toilet separate from the full bathroom which I like. Also a fantastic soaking tub with luxury full size toiletries (L'occitane). They have a Nespresso machine which is a life saver for me, I love a coffee first thing so it was greatly appreciated. The breakfast was included in our room and it is a very simple one, only pastries and coffee (no fruit, yogurt...) could be a bit better but it worked out fine until we could get out of a lunch in the town. The other staff were also very nice and welcoming. We even came back from a great night sightseeing and dinner and when we came back to the room, a chilled bottle of Rose was waiting with a large Heart made of Rose petals was outlined on the bed and some chocolates. I was totally taken by surprise and felt so happy and THAT is why this hotel really is outstanding ! They make you feel appreciated and valuable. The location is excellent, minutes from Old own, The Charles Bridge and a short walk to the Castle. I would recommend and hope to visit again!
"Deceptive Booking Practices"
So, I was eager to book a room at the Pachtuv Palace based on a top ten list printed in the UK Telegraph (granted the review was from 2 years ago). Well, some management practices must have changed since this property was well-regarded, because I was assigned a room at the Smetana Hotel instead of Pachtuv Palace without prior disclosure or agreement. The Smetana Hotel is actually a sister hotel located right next to the Pactuv Palace and even though the rooms are nice enough, it simply isn't the property that I'd chosen. According to TripAdvisor ratings, Pachtuv Palace is ranked at #100 and the Smetana is ranked at #259. Additionally, I had noticed at the time of booking that prices were higher for the same dates at Pachtuv Palace versus the Smetana Hotel. Therefore, I feel cheated and that really ruins the experience. I even gently raised the issue with the front desk, but they dismissed my concern, instead stating that I was better off at the Smetana because it's "better". After that, I let it go as it would have been uncomfortable to get too worked up in front of my new significant other. I'd say that a few other interactions with the front desk supports some of the complaints that other customers have stated in regards to service. I'll make one last remark about the advertised breakfast. It consists of a coffee, a glass of juice and a croissant (along with some bread). There are other breakfast items you are can order for an additional cost, but don't expect a full breakfast as is customary at many other hotels in Prague. This may be fine for many, but I mention it in the interest of full disclosure. I personally dislike being nickel and dimed at every turn when I'm paying a few hundred dollars a night for a room.
