"Great hotel location, great front staff, let down by breakfast"
Busy and bustling hotel. Front of house staff really excellent, late check-in was in the room so no time wasted. Room was well appointed and very comfortable. The fitness facilities were very good. My one disappointment was that the hotel is extremely busy at breakfast with non-guest breakfast business meetings - to the extent that as a resident you have to wait for a table or get moved into a different restaurant. Would be nice to have breakfast where you wanted - particularly if you stayed the night. Restaurant staff too overwhelmed to be of any help.
"Great Service and a little less than a good room"
I stayed already a couple of times in this hotel and all in all always had always a pleasant stay. The hotel has a beautiful SPA, pool, jacuzzi and steam room. It's all very clean and the management really pays attention to all details. For men is also available a shaving kit in the rooms, though the shaving cream is not at the Mandarin standards ( rather than cream or foam, it is a sort of wet soap.... pretty uncomfortable for shaving!). Otherwise it's all perfect razor, toothpaste and toothbrush, sleepers, etc.... The hotel is centrally located and it's in a walking distance from Central Station and Landmark. My room was at the 6th floor and this time I have to admit it looked a little "used" but was due most likely to the fact that I got a promotional rate (stay 3 nights and pay 2). Indeed, I remember that during my previous stay the rooms were impeccable but paid full price. I would recommend this hotel although the room rates sometimes during the year skyrocket......and even if some rooms look more used than others. Room service is perfect and you will find also a coffee machine with the shots as well as complimentary mineral water all over the day..... (I wouldn't indeed suggest to drink out of the tab..... ). Depending on the rate, pay attention that wifi might not be incl. (it's HKD 160 for 24 hours, not cheap!)
"Still the best service in HK"
Following a couple of poor experiences at the Grand Hyatt, I returned to staying at the Mandarin Oriental for my HK trips. I have stayed twice recently and both times have been excellent. From the jovial older bell boys welcoming you to the concierge, reception staff, wait staff and even barber, all show a real desire to do what they can to make your stay a pleasure. The rooms and beds are very comfortable and the little extra touches like eye masks and pillow sprays just show they care a little bit more. Will be back again. The only bit which wasn't up to par was the breakfast buffet. As with last time, service was slow and selection not great (e.g. anaemic sausages and burnt bacon with cold eggs that take an age to bring). Much better selection for Eastern guests though. Seems very odd to be honest as the rest of the dining experience at MO (e.g. Grill, Chinnery, Man Wah, Pierre and the afternoon tea at Cafe Cassette) is superb.
"My 20th stay - that pretty much sums it up"
If youre arriving late into HK as a tired and grumpy business traveller longing for the smoothest transition to a long overdue slumber, you cant do better than the venerable MO. I still dont know of any hotel anywhere that checks you in faster. The room is always as it should be. A place for everything and everything in its place. The fluffy white slippers are the perfect antidote for a weary soul and 3 bottles of water instead of the usual 2. There is even a pair of binoculars just in case youre bored of the usual CNN and CNBC droning in the background and decide to spy on nearby office goings on. It was my 20th stay or so they informed me at check in. "Thank you for your business." No need to thank me, it has been a pleasure everytime. Ooooh, three leather placemats with my initials embossed in a classy font..... and a small bottle of Hermes scent. Nice of them to have kept count and the personalised gifts for the continued custom were a very nice touch. No hotel is perfect and with the MO, its the price of room service. I understand that HK is an expensive place and to make the comparison fair, i look at the cost multiple of the item on the room service menu compared with the same item in cafes within a tight radius of the hotel. I had a bowl of Wan Ton noodles; close on 300HKD (39USD) after service and taxes from room service. The same bowl costs 30HKD down the road at the airport express building. Thats a 10X uptick and a little excessive. That number should be closer 5X. That really is my only complaint. I will certainly be back for my 21st visit very soon.
"The best hotel in Asia by far"
I selected the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong for a family celebration. The staff and hotel exceeded all expectations and gave us an unforgettable experience that will last a lifetime - that is absolutely priceless. Thank you Mandarin Oriental!
