"Luxury in Knightsbridge .... nearly perfect"
Booking at any property of the Mandarin Oriental Hotels Group usually assures anybody a stress free, pampered, and expensive hotel stay experience. The MO Hyde Park is no exception. Located perfectly well for anybody with a shopping urge (Harrods and Harvey Nichols are on your doorstep ans so is Sloane Street), fitness urge (Hyde Park), culinary urge (Excellent dining in and around the hotel), the grand, old property has welcomed many thousands of visitors. It is just embarking on a much needed refurbishment (in the hardware side) but the overall ambiance is certainly one of relaxed elegance. Upon arrival, we were checked in by a friendly agent who also arranged high tea at their Rosebery Lounge. The key coding machine did not cooperate but the master key did the trick and a well appointed room welcomed us(including working air conditioning .. it was the hottest September day in London for the past 55 years). Opting for London's best high tea rather than the hot and humid London afternoon weather, one can only suggest to add this to the "must do London" list - an excellent tea selection and stunning food creations (a new take on finger-sandwiches and innovative pastries that can feature in any Michelin starred establishment). MO Hyde Park features other F&B outlets including Bar Boulud which serves very nice French fair (although long time customers would suggest that it used to be slightly better in the past) and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal (nice but overrated given London's other choices). Room service is also an excellent option and breakfast inside your suite is a lovely start for the day. Concierge, Housekeeping, and Engineering are ll working well (considering a few challenges that weer addressed promptly...one table lamp blew up and bath towels were not replenished properly). Small glitches and given a very positive and pro-active attitude from the hotel team and a perfect location it is certainly one of the leaders in the competitive London luxury hotel scene. A solid MOHG performance!
"great location overpriced hotel"
The hotel is located in one of the best areas in London. The service is great and you feel welcome the minute you get in. The rooms are small and the cost of this hotel is very expensive and not a good value. I think in London most of the hotels are expensive and the rooms are equal to 4 stars hotel anywhere outside Europe. The breakfast was nice but no buffet. You will need to order out of the menu. For the price paid, I think you should have two as other hotels do. Again the rooms are small and the elevators are slow. I know they are working on fixing them. I am with AMEX platinum program but did not get any benefits except for free wifi and breakfast which usually comes free anyways. The hotel has no lobby area or any amenities like lounges worth mentioning. They do have a bar but you are better off heading opposite the street to the ****** tower hotel. So if you are looking for location and great customer service and money is not a problem , this is the hotel to stay in. I need to mention that this hotel is based on an old building so they maybe tight on that sense.
Beautifully decorated, comfortable room, very friendly service. The price was high but for the area it's expected. You must go to Heston Blumentals restaurant whilst you stay here. Also check out the spa!
"Refurb on the way"
A timeless quality and a great location, coupled with their restaurant offerings, keep this 5* property in the frame. I have visited the hotel many times but never stayed till now, and whilst a lovely, relaxing experience, the refurb is probably needed, as most of the competing players have all undergone similar in recent years and the MO is perhaps slightly behind them in certain areas. I expect the refurb to bring them right back to the fore, once completed, especially with their pool, spa and restaurants.
I booked this hotel at the last minute after another hotel screwed up my reservation. They were incredible. I was able to use the gym while they got my room situated, they schedule spa treatments to help me relax and gave me a special journal because I was on my way to a world trip. Beyond safe, kind and courtesy. As an purveyor of luxury travel they exceed all expectations
