"A "FAN" of Mandarin Oriental"
2 weeks ago, over the weekend, my partner and I stayed at the rival hotel across the street, the Grand Hyatt. The stay at the Mandarin Oriental over the weekend of 24 to 26 March was a sharp contrast to the one at Grand Hyatt. I gave the Grand Hyatt a 3 star rating due to a very impersonal service by the staff, a review of which can be found in my profile. Mandarin Oriental, I am glad to say, deserves a solid 5 star rating from me. Reservation was done direct through the official Mandarin Oriental site and it was straight forward. We booked the Executive Park View room that included breakfast and I added the Buffet dinner at Mosaic restaurant on top of the room reservation. Having known the popularity of Mosaic restaurant, I called the hotel directly to reconfirm my dinner and was attended to by Ms Faten who ensured me that she would do the dinner reservation for us. It was later followed through by e-mail confirming the dinner reservation. Kudos to Ms Faten. Check-in was at the reception counter. What differentiate MO from Grand Hyatt was the genuineness of the staff, the efficiency of check-in and the extra thing like a welcome drink, trivial it might seemed, but essential in the cutthroat business of running a luxury hotels. With so many choices around the vicinities, these little touches made a lot of difference. When every other hotels charges about the same rate, these extra things are what make or break the deal. Though in this case, my stay at the MO was actually cheaper than my stay at Grand Hyatt. Back to the check in process, Ms Pui Har attended to my check-in formalities. She was indeed a lovely and friendly lady. She explained all the facilities that were available and later escorted me to the room to explain the amenities in the room. She asked me whether I needed an extra key card to be readied at the front desk for my partner to collect since my partner was not with me during check in. This was after she had already given me 2 key cards. That was really thoughtful of her. When I was at the Grand Hyatt, I was left on my own to find my way to the room and they only provided me with 1 key card. Once again, MO excelled in these matter. The staff were anticipating the need of the guests before the guest even realises that they needed the service. A note of appreciation to Ms Pui Har. Excellent. The room was a corner unit. Very bright with two sides having windows. The walk in closet was a bit small though. The shower cubicle in the bathroom was also on the small side. Since this was built-in in the design of the building, I guess there was nothing much to be done with those. However, the room was comfortable. Some other reviewers complained about the tired looking room and the old carpet and such but I did not find that to be so. The decor was classic not ultra modern or minimalist like in some newer hotels. I guessed it boiled down to personal preference. Another nice touches were the the Welcome Drink in the room together with a tray of assortment of homemade chocolates as a welcome gift. Furthermore, during turn down service in the evening, guests were once again presented with a small box of chocolates. In our case, on one of the evening, we were given 2 boxes of chocolates. Thanks to the housekeeper for the kind gesture. Not mentioned anywhere in the website, the room was equipped with a DVD player, so do bring your DVDs. DVDs were also available on loan basis if you did not bring your own collection. Breakfast at Mosaic was buffet style. The selection was quite ok though not that extensive when compared to the Grand Hyatt. The quality was ok. Our only complain to the Restaurant Assistant Manager Mr Rahman when he came to introduce himself, was the Malay section that was a bit too salty. Mr Rahman went to taste some of the dishes and came back to us to inform us that he had instructed some of the dishes to be returned to the kitchen. To have a Manager walking around the restaurant introducing himself to the guests, was another plus point. And to have that same Manager adressed you by your name the first time he came to the table was indeed exceptional. And to have the same Manager asking whether you were ok or not since he did not see the two of us for breakfast this morning was beyond exceptional. Another staff need to be mentioned here as well for a job well done, Mr Nizam. Dinner buffet was also nice though a bit busy with a full restaurant. Furthermore, our table was next to the appertizer section so it was a bit busy with diners walking around us. This we understood due to the restaurant being full. The selection was good though there was a long queue at some stations. Not a big deal, just go to that section when the queue wasn't that long. We loved the dessert selection. Do tell Ms Wati to keep up her good attitude and to keep smiling. She looked so lovely with her ever present smile on her face. Mr Man also needed to be commended for his service and for his friendliness to stop and have a chat with us eventhough he was so busy. These are the people that made an excellent hotel. Check out was also very straight forward and fast. After check out we stopped at the MO Cake House to buy some macarons to take back home. Ms Sara was so patient with us. We chose our selection of macarons and then she went to prepare our bill and then we decided to add some pastries after she had already printed the bill. We joked with her and apologized for making her job difficult. She said it was ok and after we were finally finished with our selection of pastries she joked and asked us whether we were absolutely sure that we would no add another items after she prepared our bill for the second time. A commendation for Ms Sara. Of note, this was the time when we met Mr Rahman who addressed me by name asking me why we were not at breakfast in the morning. In a nutshell, Mandarin Oriental is still one of the best hotels in KL, if not the best. I have stayed here a long time ago when the hotel first opened its door. The service back then was superb and even more so this time around. Would I return' Of course I will....I am now a FAN of Mandarin Oriental.
It was my birthday and they made design on the bed with orchards, gave me an orchard bouquet and gave us champagne and a cake. View of PETRONAS towers from room could see the music display from hotel room, view from room just breath-taking! Pool area is fantastic!!!
A very nice hotel .... clean rooms ....five star services. It is located in the center next to a beautiful park. The staff is very helpful... when you leave you will want to return again. Mandarin is a 5 star hotel because staff are 5 stars.
"Dream Hotel in KL"
Once having some important event, we like chose this hotel, just next door to the KLCC, with very big room, necessary facility, very comfortable bed, big TV, very clean and nice bathroom, very big and nice view swimming pool. The staff there very kind and fast working. Since the water shower room tape a little bit different from other hotel, it could be helpful for new comer to use it.
