"The luxury of the Orient in Miami"
The Mandarin Oriental exceeded my expectations for a luxury hotel in Miami. From the facilities to the restaurants and the incredible views of the Miami skyline, this is THE hotel for both business and leisure in Miami. The hotel turned my ho-hum business trip into an unforgettable experience. It's resort living within a short stroll to Miami's business center.I'm looking forward to returning to the hotel in the not too distant future.
We were delighted to receive an upgrade to a suite when the hotel learned we were staying as part of a significant wedding anniversary. The rooms had every conceivable ultra modern convenience. We felt. Totally spoiled. That said the Peruvian restaurant had a menu which you could not read in the dark and the food was a bit complicated for my basic tastes. The staff could not have been more helpful.
"Splendour, luxury, heaven."
The "New Miami" is a place called Brickell Key. The new name for heaven is Mandarin Oriental. We had a suite on the 15th floor, looking over Biscayne Bay and out to the Atlantic. There were Manatees and dolphins in the water below our balcony. The Mandarin Oriental was our weekend home after we'd been indulged on a 10 day cruise around The Caribbean. Not wanting to go straight back to reality, we chose 2 nights at this slice of heaven. There is a lovely feng shui feel about the hotel with little touches that make you smile. The staff are superb, unbeatable in fact, and the food and wine are of the highest standard. The loveliest pool which is a decent size and a man-made beach that allows you to snooze under trees with birds flying above. Nothing is too much effort for the staff who perfectly predict your every need. EVERY hotel should reach for the stars that this Mandarin Hotel Brickell Key has achieved.
We spent two nights at this wonderful hotel. All our needs were meet with style. Upon our arrival we were personally greeted by the hotel manager, Mr. Robert Lowe. He assured us to contact him if we had questions or concerns! What a nice touch!
"Started off ok..."
My original plan was to stay at a famous 4* on Coconut Grove for the two nights, but a discounted offer from MO - a 5* island hotel situated close to downtown Miami - made it an easy choice to switch. Original impressions of the lobby appeared to be on a par with the very best from more modern resorts such as, for example, those in Dubai. It must be remembered of course that properties in Miami are much older; either renovated exceptionally well, exceptionally mediocre... or simply left to find their own way in life. The check-in system seemed to work efficiently and I was on my way to the room within five minutes. The elevators in general appeared, and sounded, tired and old-fashioned; the elevator waiting areas were way too bland, but the views from the large window made up for this. The King-size room was, not surprisingly, large; bathroom clean and clearly renovated to a modern standard. The view from the large balcony was not exactly inspiring but at least boats could be glimpsed passing between the other high-risers. On the first afternoon around the pool, a large glass - well, beaker - of Stella helped me forget about my jetlag and relax. Food was ordered and came swiftly; the chicken wrap wasn’t too bad, it just required more seasoning that’s all. Fries were great, as were the nachos. Just to mention: The next afternoon they had run out of beakers, and I was given a shorter measure for the same high cost. A second beer was ordered - and finally received after a long-forgotten fifty minutes! In this respect, being on the far-side of the pool has its pros AND cons, but the 18% gratuity is added anyway “For our Convenience” apparently. ‘May’ was exceptional with her guests. I did plan to eat around the pool once again but had changed my mind witnessing a staff member not washing his hands in the restroom; hopefully he does not handle any food! Check-out was quick but would have been even faster if my falsely charged “free inclusive fast Internet” ($20) hadn’t had to be removed from the bill. I really cannot imagine staying here again given that there are probably better - or even better-value 4* - hotels in Miami to be discovered.
