"1400 Dollars for a what!'"
I have always heard people gush about the mandarin oriental and was curious to see why. My wife and I, came to NY for a family event and figured it would be a good opportunity to see what this hotel is all about. First things first, 1400 dollars a night for a room, I was expecting the accommodations to be in the same category as the St. Regis. We were escorted to our room, only to realize how cramped and small it was. The view was not particularly great, as we were blocked by tons of buildings and faced the beautifully green looking Hudson River. I thought maybe the bathroom is what people love about this place. I was wrong. While the bathroom is big and luxurious, it is an odd layout with a cheap looking bathtub and toilet. It was very narrow and the doors would not close. The bed was average and had very tough pillows. When I woke up in the morning, I needed a coffee and figured the room service would be just fine. My coffee was watery and tasted like it sat on the fire since 6am. The only great thing was the late check out for 3pm, as this is very uncommon in NYC hotels. I am generally not someone who complains however, for this price I was expecting a little more. If you are contemplating spending this type of money, there are far better options.
The rooms are well equipped but quite small. The maid service was terrible (had to call for evening turndowns and daily room makeup). Food in the restaurant was good, but the service was indifferent and inattentive. Way overpriced for what you get. Will not return.
"Suite of amazing views and excellent service"
Caveat: I did not pay for this hotel room - it was given as perk for hosting a corporate event in the hotel. The Suite was amazing. Beautiful living room/dining room combination with its own bathroom, and the bedroom was large with a nice armchair and footstool to enjoy the city views. It overlooks Central Park and from this Suite, you can also see the River to the West. The shades are electric so you can make it very dark or leave them open and enjoy the day and evening city views. We were lucky to have a full moon that night so we watched it rise over the city. Breakfast in the room was prompt and the coffee was delicious.
"Beautiful, luxurious with stupendous views of the park"
At Luxury Trips by Bea, we try to visit some of the most luxurious hotels in the world and this is without a doubt a must stay at hotel for those who want a little luxury and tranquility in a busy city. Asiate is a great restaurant while staying here. The rooms are spacious, Luxury Trips by Bea stayed here over Christmas and New Year and surprisingly, we were upgraded to a stunning park view (picture attached). The staff are helpful and multilingual along with super knowledgable. 100% recommend staying here.
We had great service, good food & drinks! Our room wss perfect with a fine view of Central Park & the front desk, concierge, & housekeeping people were so friendly and accomadating! It doesn't get any better than that!
