"Will definitely be back "
I have just returned home from an amazing 10 night stay at the Mandarin Oriental, New York. Everything from check in to check out was seemless. The staff are excellent - each and every member of staff we encountered was friendly, knowledgable and happy to help. We stayed in a Hudson View room on the 53rd floor and the views were fabulous. The room was very spacious even by NYC standards as was the amazing bathroom complete with bath, large shower and TV. The level of in room house keeping is very high. I don't know how they manage it but the rooms are cleaned and made up immaculately and yet you never see housekeeping or housekeeping trolleys. I amazed how they do it. The turn down service provided nightly is also excellent as each night you are provided with a letter offering details of the weather forecast for the next day and possible activities for you to consider as well as a quote, or pearl of wisdom about sleep. It's a very nice touch. We used in room dining a couple of times (breakfast and dinner) and the attention to detail is brilliant. They bring a table complete with linens and flowers and set the table as if you were dining in the restaurant. The food was excellent. The only thing that I felt was trying to be too clever and ultimately not working as well as it could was how they operate mini bar services. The mini bar and in room snacks are motion sensitive. Once you pick up and item from its spot you have 30 seconds to put it down or you are charged for it. We had seen this in the in room information which detailed this therefore did not pick anything up however at some point possibly during housekeeping items had been somehow dislodged and these items were now appearing on our bill. This issue was addressed and was a non issue however it seem like a cumbersome feature that is not fool proof. In terms of location I loved this hotel. It is facing Central Park and more or less above the 59th Street Subway so is excellently appointed with all areas of NYC easily accessible from this location. I will definitely be back to this hotel and have plans to try Mandarin Oriental properties in other locations when I travel.
"Wonderful hotel in New York"
This is one of the best hotels I've stayed. What I love most where the amazing views over Central Park. I also loved the location, is very convenient if you want to go to a concert or ballet at Lincoln Center. I enjoyed to have Central Park just downstairs.
Met our son &family in NYC; had 3 bedrooms, plus a living room, for the 6 of us. Stay was excellent. Andrew Archibald (front desk) did a great job with complicated room rearrangement; was always available &courteous. Maid service was great, morning &night, esp. Chandra. Concierge did a great job; booked a restaurant (for 2 adults) at the last moment. Took care of a lost pair of eyeglasses, 'phoned to make sure it got back to us. Great restaurants. Liked the Japanese breakfast. Room service service was very good; food not as good as restaurants. Fini (facial at SPA) is excellent; my wife recommends highly. Bell desk was very good, Also doormen (taxi w/2 toddlers &stroller can be an issue). Hotel car to/from airports is very good; not free. Between the Mandarins in Paris, Munich, and NYC, this is the best.
"Super hotel - but see my notes"
In total a super nice hotel ... as expected since the hotel is among the top-10 most expensive hotels in NYC. Here is my notes regarding the hotel. INTERNET PAYMENT!! To pay to use the internet in a five star hotel in 2017 is simply NOT ok. Why dont you also charge for hot water' On a positive note, the WI-FI coverage is super, even in the spa. MINIBAR WITH SENSORS The minibar has automatic sensors that make you pay if you remove items for more than 30 sek. Totally a thing most three-star hotels wouldnt install. PAPER Newspaper delivered to the door every morning is super nice. ICE Automatically refill of icecubes in the room every day is a nice feature. ELEVATOR SECURITY I noticed that the elevator wants a doorkey in order to stop at your exact floor. It is NOT enough that one person in the elevator has a key. A nice security-feature! NOT DIRECT VIEW We paid extra for Central Park View. We got the view but please note that the Trump building stands between you and the park (see picture) This is conviently NOT shown in the hotel-pictures.
"Room with a view"
I spent 3 nights at the Mandarin Oriental NY in Feb 2017. I had a room with views on central park from a 39th floor, OUTSTANDING. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly. The location is great as there are many metro lines just by the hotel entrance and it is also perfect if you are keen for a morning run in Central Park.(thing to do)
