"The pool is the main attraction"
The rooms are clean and modern - something you would see in North America in a 3-4 star hotel. We did reserve this hotel because of the pool and its views. It truly is the only thing that makes this hotel stand out. We went to the pool in the morning and we were disappointed with the lack of a breakfast menu. 2 cappuccinos (did not taste good), yogurt & granola, and 3 small muffins cost 30$ SGD. If you are paying for that little - you would think it would be top notch - but we were sadly mistaken. Front staff are more like clerks at a store than a high-end hotel. Responses are cut and dry - they figured they have so many guests that they forget customer service. On another note -The taxi ride from the airport costs 20-25 $SGD one way (inclusive of traffic). The hotel is surrounded by the Marina Bay - mall (lot of high end shops and a great affordable food court), gardens, water front, and night water show.
"Excellent but very busy hotel"
So it depends on what your hotel palate is like. There wasn't a single thing I could find wrong with the Marina Bay Sands - but there will always be a lot of people around but it was always efficiently run while I stayed. It's almost more of a small city than a hotel - I think they have about 2500 rooms over the three towers, and there are frequent tours and just walk through visitors going through the lobby. If your preference is for a small boutique hotel where the staff remember your name - this isn't it. Having said that the staff always went out of their way to be friendly, communicative and the service was top notch during my entire stay. For example I was standing in the queue for the concierge desk to ask about the local sights and there wasn't anyone waiting at the VIP check-in desk. Rather than like at most hotels where the VIP desk is exclusive, the VIP staff stepped in and helped quite quickly reduce the waiting. Ask for a room on floors 5 and up as the lobby can get noisy. Also the lower level 'garden view' rooms just end up looking into a bush or palm tree. From higher up you can see the entire Gardens by the Bay and their phenomenal light show. The city view isn't all that enticing as you can just see the buildings from the rooftop (personal opinion). There are a myriad of restaurants all within the mall / hotel / conference centre complex for you to explore even if you don't have the time to go around town much. Service at all of them was brilliant, they knew what you needed and stepped in to assist before you even asked. At busy times however, be prepared that you may have to wait for a table to free up at the more popular restaurants. Similarly the Singapore Flyer and the Gardens By the Bay are both within easy walking distance. In the evenings there is a free light show at the Gardens and a free water and light show behind the mall. The room itself (which was the most ordinary one) was a delight to spend time in - from automated curtains to the well detailed bathroom and general cleanliness of the hotel. And finally of course the infinity pool. The view was amazing, the water is a comfortable to cool temperature which generally helps fight the high temperatures outdoors, and it was never very full when I was there. It is restricted just to hotel guests (individuals with room keycards). You pick up and return towels to the towel stations around the pool so no need to carry stuff up. There were also a nightclub and restaurant up on the roof which I didn't explore much. The size of the pool is reasonable but not as big as they make it look on the pictures and some of the floor paint is showing signs of wear. For those with kids - yes there is a kiddy pool right next to the main infinity pool and it has a glass 'fence' around it so the kids aren't tempted to try and climb out. The mall attached to the hotel is massive but generally empty-ish. There is also a handy subway station as part of the complex which can take you into town and elsewhere easily. There is also a skating rink within the mall, but it was 'disassembled' at the time I was there, instead they had a live band going. Considering the cost - if you are just after a room at the standard in this hotel - you could probably find something 40-50% cheaper in Singapore, not too far away. The main draw here is the pool, having the complex of shops, restaurants and other attractions right there and the actual enjoyment of the look of the place.
It is big and beautiful. It is a landmark in Singapore. If you can afford, spend two nights here. The rooms facing to east (Bay Garden) have good view of sunrise. Take advantage of that. Swimming pool is the best.
"Read the Terms and Conditions before you make reservation"
If you plan to book a room at this hotel, you should definitely get familiar with the Terms and Conditions - you should really read them through. For example, even if you get booking confirmation from the hotel, it doesn't mean your booking is ok. There is very low age limit for the children (of 12 yrs!) and that limit is mentioned only in the T&C when making a booking. If you have older children, your booking goes through the system BUT you will be asked later to book another room as the only way to have the once confirmed accommodation. In addition, it's the same with the pool access. It's clearly said that only hotel guests can access the pool - but there are access restrictions which are, once again hidden in the T&C! Even if you are hotel guest, you might not have the access to the pool. I really felt being blackmailed to book a second room months after the original confirmation.
"Post Cruise City Tour"
We rode a hop on hop off thru the city of Singapore. A great way to see the city when time is limited. We decided to go up to the top if Marina Bay Sands. It didn't disappoint. Great views even with an overcast. The price was high $40 Singapore dollars and could only be used one time. The city is worth your time. It is clean and the architecture alone is worth seeing.
