"A mixed bag"
I'm in 2 minds as to how to review this hotel, it's quaint oldness is betrayed by what I've now come to expect as a certain standard in many a modern hotel. The rooms are old, and they look it. Dated antique furniture, along with low sitting beds (2 singles pushed together) and uncomfortable cushion style pillows makes for not a great nights sleep. Added to that, the rooms are not soundproofed at all, thanks to ill fitting doors means the the slightest creak and noise from the corridors echoes throughout your room. And the least said about the 10+ old TV and digibox setup (I didn't know people still used SCART leads), the better. A distinct lack of staff upon check in (one member of staff covering the bar and check in desk) is not the greatest of first appearances. The service at the unconventional bar (bottles of spirits atop of dressers and cabinets in what feels like someones front room) means service is hardly quick. The staff are friendly and polite and it's location is ideal for accessing all the sights, but Brugge is only a small city after all. It's period charm maybe for some but I'm afraid not for me.
"Christmas markets, chocolate and 11% beer"
What a great location this hotel enjoys, right on the canal and even after more than a few very strong beers can be found easily. The hotel had a lovely charm about it and the Christmas decor was excellent and really added to the appeal. The room was very large and the bathroom was huge, we traveled in a group of 11 and our room had the biggest bathroom by far. Great shower and nice and warm. Breakfast slightly on the pricey side but if you like a posh breakfast this suits just fine, smoked salmon and Cava on offer! Ask for room number four if you want a lovely view from the window, huge super king bed and a massive bathroom!
We stayed for 3 nights and thought it was a great hotel. Staff are so helpful and friendly. We stayed in a comfort room (30), which was a good size with a big bathroom. My only criticism would be the bed (2 singles pushed together) which moved during the night on the wooden floor, and the shower didn't have enough pressure to work so I could stand under it. Great hotel and a great location for visiting Bruges, and great value!
If I am honest, I am not sure if this is charming and quaint or just old and tired. The building is fantastic, built on the canal front and is very charming. The lounge rooms are quaint with nice open fireplaces and sofas. The rooms have massive double beds. They are quite soft, so if you are fussy, this may be an issue. The rooms are simply furnished, but it feels a bit old and dated. Bathrooms are nice. Breakfast was very good in a very pretty and nice room. There are plenty of other hotels that are located more centrally and the parking for this hotel is only a few minutes walk away, but it is not in a very nice area. Overall I am confused, I enjoyed my stay, it was a charming building in a beautiful town, but I feel that you may get a better quality of room in other hotels.
"Beautiful comfortable hotel in bruges "
This hotel was beautiful and full 9f old world charm. The room was small but very cosy. Complete with a balcony with beautiful views. The room had tea and coffee facilities and was only a 5 minite stroll to the square. There was a nice cafe called tatties across from the hotel which was good for snacks and breakfast
