My husband and I have spent two gorgeous weeks at Matahari resort. It is a lovely place in its every aspect: place, people, living, dining, swimming, diving, SPA, service - everything. It is very different from chain hotels even the biggest ones. Here guests are not just formally served, they are treated in the best possible and very friendly way - it is like you come to see your old friends. Matahari with people who work there are a true family and you can feel it in everything. If you want a complete relax - it is the right place for it. SPA on my opinion is the best here in comparison to other luxury places and hideaways from all over the world. I have first time experienced yoga at Matahari - it is available everyday at 8AM at yoga pavilion in front of the ocean - so that you can listen to the ocean and tropical birds and get total relaxation. Yoga is free and I enjoyed it almost every morning before breakfast. Yoga teachers are wonderful and very professional. Cuisine is also awesome at the hotel - you can try lots of amazing balinese dishes. It is not only very tasty but is served in a very beautiful way. At breakfast you will find lots of tropical fruits: papaya, mango, dragon fruit, jack fruit, passion fruit and many others. You can also order them during your lunch or dinner time. There are several restaurants in the hotel - both are great and worth visiting. Several times + during Christmas, NY and Balinese holidays we enjoyed great performances of local dancers, singers - some of them are from kindergartens and orphanages that Matahari hotel supports - it is part of CSR projects of Matahari (usually you just hear or read about CSR that a hotel is part of - but in Matahari you can really see and feel it - it is very emotional and lovely). The hotel actually shows you Balinese culture and there is no need to go elsewhere to see it. There is also a wonderful souvenir shop near lobby where you can purchase some craft hand-made statues and other local things made of wood or stone. On the territory of the hotel there is a perfect diving centre where you can arrange a trip to the national coral park Menjangan - there you can enjoy snorkeling and diving - both are pretty cool (we’ve been twice and would love to go more). You can see lots of fish, beautiful corals, turtles, we were also very happy to see the dolphins! There are some more spots beside Mejangan where you can also go. In 10-minutes walk along the beach or road you will find Turtle hatchery where you can see lots of little and very pretty turtles and even release one of them in the morning before 10 AM. On the beach you can go canoeing or just swim in warm water and enjoy the view of the hotel, hills beside and nature around. I would like to say many thanks to the owners of Matahari - Mr Magnus and Mrs Parwathi and GM Jany-Michel Fourre. You have created a wonderful place and home where anyone can have a dream-vacation. Thank you for home and very welcoming atmosphere! It was a great pleasure to meet you and enjoy the vacation.
"3 night stay"
the perfect hideaway in the beautiful unspoiled northwest of bali. perfect rooms, restaurant and high quality breakfast with pure bio products. the dark lava beach is very clean an child friendly, no water scooters. good diving ops, werner lau, easy to combine with the snorklers the village is not special, but non touristic close to nice diving spots and nature reserve
"True 5 star facility and staff"
We stayed with our 3 teenage boys for 3 nights. Amazing beautiful resort with true Balinese style touches. 5 temples on property, gorgeous pool (a touch too warm though). Wonderful staff and very hands on GM. Lots of very nice extra touches. Wonderful spa as nice as I've been anywhere in world. Very good food. Air con was not quite cool enough in room 3 & 4. Highly recommended for romantic couples, family gatherings or families with older children. Dive shop on property too:)
"The art to pamper"
This year we decided to book our yearly diving trip in the north-west of Bali in the Matahari Beach and Spa resort in Pemuteran. The resort happened to be one of the best ones we experienced in the last 10 years going to Indonesia and Malayasia for diving. Great hospitality, a truly fantastic kitchen(!) and a top quality resort with very nice bungalows in a beautiful tropical garden, very well maintained and bringing us in a peaceful atmosphere. If you have already been to diving sites such as Wakatobi, Lembeh Street, Bunaken, Sipadan-Mabul, Raja Ampat,.. the diving experience, mainly at the natural reserve Menjangan, was perhaps not at that same high level although its marine fauna incorporates one of the best-preserved coral reefs in the area. We would definitely recommend this resort.
"Busier but better than before!"
This was our third visit to Matahari, and we were pleasantly surprised by our experience this time. The fabric of the place has been maintained to a high standard - the rooms are still very attractive, the spa beautiful, and the gardens even more luscious. The beach restaurant has been extended and offers a great lunchtime menu, and the main restaurant has more 'local' food on offer, though it is still a little 'western-heavy' to my mind. The Babi Guleng BBQ was a great success, and we were very pleased to have caught it!
