This is a good hotel. Located around a 15minute walk from the city centre along a straight, well-lit main road. The staff were friendly and all spoke good English (our French is poor!). The room was clean and had all the amenities you'd expect from a hotel like this. We were also pleased it had BBC1 and BBC2 on the TV rather than just news channels! It was also very well sound-proofed. It's a 20minute bus ride from the airport on the number 16 bus (2 euros).
"Always greeted with a smile and a warm welcome"
Staff are always efficient and friendly. Will call on support if check in / check out busy so rarely have to queue. On occasion I have forgotten or lost something (phone charger) or have had a minor issue in the room (kettle blown a fuse and shower stopped!) - staff have been prompt and will go the extra mile if you have a problem.
"Nice business hotel"
This hotel is set up for business but don't let this put you off if you are here for a break. The hotel is clean and modern, nice toiletries and has very comfortable beds and pillows. The location was is out of the main centre which was fine for us because we enjoy walking but be aware you have to walk a good 15 mins to the centre unless you get a taxi. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice apart from the coffee machine which broke down. Luckily I got a coffee before that happened! There is no official parking one of the staff members advised where there was some free local parking.
The hotel has a decent location and is close to the airport and business area although taxis are a rip off in Luxembourg so that does not make a huge difference. The rooms are quality and the breakfasts are really good. The staff are always helpful and it has a nice reception area with a bar to unwind. It has good wifi and a nice desk in the room so it is very good for business travellers.
"Fabulous hotel, just a little on the pricey side for what you get"
My husband and I travelled to Luxembourg City as it was the closest airport to a Zweibrucken in Germany where my husband was taking part in a jet fighter flight (that's another review altogether). We decided to stay at the Melia as it had great reviews, was commutable on foot to most attractions within the city and looked impressive from the photos. The hotel was lovely, great location next to the Museum of Modern Art and the Philamonique. The hotel was clean, fabulously decorated and the staff on reception were excellent. The room was nice, comfy bed and everything you needed was to hand. However, something was missing, and I can't quite put my finger on what it was. I have nothing bad to say, but it was just like every other hotel we have been to but for a much higher cost. Our stay for two days was £450 (including one dinner) and for what we got it was not very good value for money. Don't get me wrong, we don't mind paying for a great hotel experience, however, nothing stood out here for the cost. Something to be very aware of and not hotel related, taxi's in Luxembourg are fantastically expensive, a 25 min journey just over the border into Germany cost €200. Will most definitely be back to visit Luxembourg as it is a love city, but will try a different hotel next time.
