"Bad location, reasonable service and facilities at a high cost"
The location of this hotel looked pretty good on the map, but reality unfortunately proved to be a bit different. In the middle of a very busy, confusing and ugly part of Botafogo neighborhood, this is not the kind of hotel where one can go out for a pleasant walk in the surroundings - and this can be very, very disappointing when you are in a stunning place like Rio de Janeiro. Service is impersonal but efficient; breakfast is reasonable but too expensive. Talking about prices, by the way, I sometimes wonder how much does one have to pay for a Rio de Janeiro hotel with decent, modern and not run down facilities. Maybe only the five star hotels can offer this there, which is a pity! Although my room was fairly clean, it is always disappointing to see how the environment doesn't correspond to the price of the stay - and not only in here, but in this whole city.
My colleague and I arrived very late on the day of our arrival. The staff on duty spoke very little English but we managed to get our rooms. However my colleagues room card lock would not work. He was moved to a smaller room but was moved back as we had booked larger rooms. Breakfast was ok but the chefs make terrible omelettes on demand but the rest of the breakfast was good. The staff in general were good, the hotel was good but I wouldn't rush to go back to it. Mercure hotels are usually better.
"Good value for money, comfortable stay"
LOCATION & ATTRACTIONS NEARBY *** It’s very close to Botafogo Beach (I wouldn’t really swim there), recreation area, many shops, local bars, restaurants and also not far away from the Sugar Loaf (I actually walked there from this hotel). Area is not really popular with foreign tourists, but I felt safe and totally comfortable day or night. Just steps away there’s really nice traditional Brazilian buffet restaurant where you can have amazing lunch or dinner with locals! Hotel has parking attached to its building (garage), but it’s also easy accessible by bus or metro (metro station is 10 min walk which I used to go to Ipanema even night time). HOTEL OVERVIEW *** Quite standard hotel in a busy area of Rio. What I could see, they didn’t have many guests from other countries at the time, but hotel was quite popular with local business and leisure visitors. It was OK and I felt that it was worth money I’ve paid. Lifts were very confusing for some reason and it happened that I landed few times in the floor for staff only... PURPOSE OF THIS TRIP *** Leisure. RESERVATION *** Through accorhotels.com website. Checked-in online 24h prior my arrival. LENGTH OF MY STAY *** 2 nights CHECK-IN *** I arrived quite early, but because my room still wasn’t ready I was allowed to leave my car and baggage and do my sightseeing. Check-in was very pleasant, professional and my room was allocated immediately after I came back. LOBBY & RECEPTION *** It was quite basic, but clean and cold (which was soooooo needed). ROOM *** I’ve booked a Junior Suite and that’s what I received – 601. It was huge! Like a really large apartment, with a balcony and one of the most landmarks of the world clearly seen from there – Christ the Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) statue. There was separate living room with a sofa, working desk and small table. Bedroom had comfortable double bed, but unfortunately there were some marks on the sheets. For your comfort there were two separate air-conditioning units which worked very well. Unfortunately there was no kettle or coffee/tea making kit in the room, nor in the reception. I went to restaurant for that, but that’s kind of small inconvenience in the middle of the night. Safety deposit box didn’t work, but I really didn’t want to waste my time waiting to have this fixed. I simply didn’t use it. BATHROOM *** Also quite spacious and clean, but I had one issue (which was immediately resolved as soon as I mentioned it to reception) – doors were so dirty like they were honestly never cleaned before! I was even able to take a photo of that which is unusual for ‘a little bit’ of dirt. BREAKFAST *** Breakfast was fantastic. I didn’t have it included in my price, but it was so work to add it. I absolutely loved it! RESTAURANT *** I used only for coffee, but it looked very empty. INTERNET ACCESS *** Wi-Fi was complimentary and worked quite well. CHECK-OUT EXPERIENCE *** I was really happy that I was allowed to check-out a little bit later than normally, so that allowed me to explore the area. My invoice was accurate. STAFF *** Professional, nice, polite. OVERVIEW ***Good value for money for a hotel a little bit outside of the beaten track in Rio. Not as busy and crazy as Ipanema and Copacabana, but if you’re looking for spacious room in a safe area and good price at the same time – this is good idea.
"Just ok, nothing more"
Looking for a correctly priced hotel in this neighbourhood: ok. Looking for some extras' Not the best choice. We had to change rooms as we were put in room facing blind wall while the front rooms are much better and facing Corcovado. Rooms can use some refurbishing and the breakfast buffet was lacking some fresh vegetables. Extremely friendly staff.
"Clean and comfortable"
The hotel is clean and comfortable and breakfast is complete. It's located 3 blocks from Botafogo metro station. From our room's window we were able to see one of Rio's postcard: Christ The Redeemer de
