Got $300 stolen from my room. Hotel management's response - we cant do anything without evidence. Same happened to my friend staying in another room. Not what you expect from a hotel that is supposedly rated 4 star. Besides this, rooms are tiny & stinky. Bathroom is crappy and chairs and beds are full of stains. Stay away.
"I really like this one"
This is a nice located hotel, with big rooms, nice view and well maintained rooms. I used it many times during business trip in Rio de Janeiro and like it especially for the location. Very close to subway station.
Friendly staff. Room was nice. Breakfast was good. Other meals not quite as nice. I would recommend this hotel to others. A local map would have been nice (especially in English and other languages). There really was no bar, just a couple of chairs in front of some alcohol in the restaurant. Odd that the restaurant was closed between lunch and dinner. Pool nice, but in the shade for most of the day.
"Dated but friendly helpful staff and location made the difference"
The hotel is dated and need a refurb but the room I had a suite was ok, a little small but the balcony was a great. I was able to sit out there a night with a glass of wine looking directly onto Christ the Redeemer. The staff were really friendly and the room although dated was spotlessly clean. The location is let down by the petrol station in front of it but it is close to the Metro and all the action of Botafogo. You can be in Copacabana in 5 minutes and the taxi rank outside the hotel guarantees immediate service.
"Should have read the reviews...!"
Too bad I only read the reviews for this booking after getting to the "hotel". This is not a hotel, it is a cheap motel rather. 4.5 stars' I think not. As a business traveler I can safely tell other business people to stay away and book another place for their Río work travel in the city. Just like other reviews indicated - cleanliness is not a priority here, but going through your suitcases -- is. Make sure important objects are locked inside the safe. The person who "cleaned" my room made the bed in some halfway fashion, plugged up the used soap I already emptied, then placed it on my sink-side tray. Towels were not refreshed, the room was left with the empty water bottles I had left behind laying around. My suitcases and closet were both left open although I had closed them before leaving, which only means the staff went through them. Even without this treatment, the rooms and furniture are worn out and everything is dirty or weird. Read the negative reviews, they are all true to life. Wish I had checked them out before booking (adding pictures for those interested). Breakfast is included here, don't expect much. Somehow it's not terrible, and they have a decent espresso maker too. WiFi is likely the best thing about this Accor member property. It works and provides good speed for those who must get work done. Taxis are almost always lined up outside. There is a local supermarket within 2-3 minutes walking distance if you're the type to get bottled water for your room. Close to a subway station and some shopping and entertainment spots. Nightly fare is apparently thrift. Staff is very nice here, and helpful. Personally, I would not come back because of the dirty furniture. It's one thing being basic, and it's another being disgusting. Sorry Mercure, you need a serious facelift that your owners are wrongly skimping on!
