"Great location. Best service."
This was a wonderful location where you could enjoy long walks around the lake and then kick back in the hotels restaurant for an excellent meal. Breakfast buffet was outstanding, dinners just incredibly well cooked. But the best thing by far about this hotel was it's service. As an Accor member I often stay at their hotels but this one had the best most welcoming reception staff anywhere. Fantastic I almost felt guilty that I didn't deserve their careful attention - not being the pm or anyone important. Loved it though!
"Outdated room in the Mercure section of the hotel"
The overall experience was pretty disappointing. Even though I was staying in a Mercure Privilege room, which I've though would be one of higher specs room, it was well below the average. The decor was pretty average, couch did not look good at all, but the most frustrating experience was with the bathroom. Apart from just being dead old and outdated, the shower head was dodgy and was constantly leaning down, so that I had to bring it back up every minute or so. My colleagues staying at the same hotel complained about the same issue. The only two positive things were its proximity to the conference venue (otherwise, I would have stayed in the city) and the Windows restaurant downstairs. The bottom line is – explore some other options, if you have to stay in that area.
We come to St Kilda for a 2 week stay every year and after seeing the mercure online so we decided to change from our normal hotel and try this one. We checked in about 11pm after getting off a 26hr flight the staff were absolutely lovely they did take an unexpected 750 dollars from my credit card which they say they hold just incase but will be returned on leaving on my holiday invoice it states 250 so be aware! The hotel itself is so nice and our room was lovely until we went into the bathroom the enamel on the bath was missing down at the plug hole end and all surrounding areas and was ragged and sharp there were pubic hairs stuck to the tiles and a few in the bath the white tiles had THICK mould growing out the grout all over and all around the bath and some at the edge of the mirrors at the vanity basins it was absolutely disgusting no way could you even attempt to use that bathroom and for house keeping to pass this room for a guest to use is totally unacceptable. The staff changed our room and were so apologetic and couldn't of done enough for us they were so nice. Our new room is a lot better the bath isn't that clean looking it's very tired and worn and I certainly won't be taking a bath in it I get in and out the shower as quick as possible the interior of the rooms are lovely with everthing you need and they have the most comfortable beds but because of the bathrooms I certainly won't be back due to the bathrooms badly needing upgraded it's such a shame as the hotel is so nice.
"Good Hotel and Great Location"
We stayed here for the AFL Grand Final. The hotel was really convenient and located close to the tram stops on St Kilda Road. The room was clean, tidy and really quiet. The Reception Staff, especially Katrina and Lana, were a delight to deal with - thank you for your assistance and help ladies.
Recently stayed for 5 nights whilst at a conference. Was in a Mecure room On level 4 with a lakeside view. The room was comfortable but tired. There was no bath and a small tv. For two nights the lift was broken so I had to catch another lift to level3 then climb up the fire escape stairs . No compensation was offered for the inconvenience .No update on the lift's status was given either. Staff at reception and concierge were lovely. I would not bother paying extra for a Lakeview. Some people were offered upgrades but I was not one. Pros close to tram and the city. This part of the hotel is definitely the poor cousin.
