"Average. Average. Average."
Rooms small but ok. Hanging space minimal. Shower-room small but ok. Small towels. Bar small, not ok. One barman for 100 odd people, doesn't work. No room in the bar so took our drinks to the lobby, asked to move, drinks not allowed in the lobby. Breakfast ok. So why have I given it 3 stars. Because it wasn't poor, it was just ok
"Great location but dingy and disappointing"
The location was great and the pool small but nice. The room was dingy, musty and shabby with cheap, uncomfortable beds and bedding. My fingers went through the threadbare sheets. The bathroom was grubby and in need of refurbishment. The glass door on the shower was out of alignment and caused a huge noise every time we used it. Breakfast was fine. We were unable to use any electricals since our room Only had Brazilian sockets - other rooms had US sockets - and the USB socket did not work. I understand others in our party had bigger rooms with good views but ours looked into the street. If you book this hotel ask for a room on the higher floors, at the back, with views of Christ the Redeemer statue but don't expect comfort.
"Less than average"
Part of a tour package. This hotel lacked anything of note. Room akin to Travel Lodge with less than adequate clothes storage. Towels looked old and tired even when clean. We were lucky to get a view of Christ The Redeemer. The landing areas are very dimly lit and look gloomy. The staff are generally unhelpful and at times miserable. The bar area is small and bar service is slow. Drinks expensive and whoever heard of a hotel bar running out of tonic - no G&T's! Small pool with an even smaller bar where service was better. A 10 minute walk from the beach - not in great area and there are much better choices available. Our guide said ' if you are old you are a mugging target in this area' - deep joy!
"Staff not exactly helpful"
We stayed here for three nights and although the room was adequate it was lacking any frills. Very little of the staff had any command of even basic English, when I rang reception for some coat hangers I was told 'no you cannot smoke in your room '. The breakfast wasn't too bad but not not getting any stars. When we booked out the girl on reception managed to take our money and without a smile said "pin" the only words she uttered. No thank you or enjoy the rest of your stay. The pool was small but the two guys on the pool bar service were great and in marked contrast to the rest of staff. Rooms were often not cleaned until late in the day and the charge of £50 for extending the room occupation for a couple of hours was excessive. The rooms had very thin walls and it was possible to hear everything next door . We had been on a cruise and were placed in this hot by the tour operator. This hotel is budget at best.
"Like a Youth Hostel and cleaning very hit and miss"
Just stayed at this Hotel for three days as part of a tour. Our room was small and sparsely decorated, like a uni or youth hostel room. Beds were large and comfortable to be fair. The view was of the buildings opposite so not very pleasant. The landings were very small and dark as lights reacted to movement. Reception and small bar area ok and a small pool on the roof was pleasant. Modern fitness suite also at the top of the Hotel. Some guests had serious issues with the cleaning of their rooms. Our bath mat was never changed and I tried not to look too closely at other areas as I was worried what I might find. Although the Hotel is only about four blocks from Copacabana beach it was not a very pleasant or picturesque area and we were given warnings about going out alone. Breakfast was ok but not great. Overall we were very disappointed especially after reading quite good reviews on Trip Adivisor.
