Honestly, the triple room in this hotel is a small but we really like the location and accountability of this place, so we decided to stay here again for four days. Kyoto is like our second home, we have been coming to this city at least twice a year for the past decade. We have tried many hotels and we have narrowed down our choices to a few, Mitsui Garden Sanjo is one of them when traveling as triple. Location, availability, mid range budget among other good reasons for our decision. Rooms are usually on the small end but we each get our own beds, private and public toilet/bathing areas are both available and breakfast was always lovely. The wonderful Rakkaku temple is around the corner, one block down from the street from the temple was the lovely lovely supermarket which boasts a roof top vegetable garden, a cozy cafe overlooking this green pad, and the selections at the market is an attraction by its own right. One must visit a good supermarket when traveling in Japan. The tea restaurant right next to the hotel is also great for lunch. We always had several meals there when we stay at the Mitsui Garden Sanjo. The hotel has a lobby looking out to a lovely zen garden. We were there during New Year so we were treated to free flow of sake and had an informative flower arrangement and also mochi making classes. A very welcoming new year's day. Be mindful about the three Mitsui Garden Hotels in the neighbourhood, we saw a couple dragging their huge luggage into the hotel only to find out it was not the right MG hotel...what a bummer.
"Comfortable , well appointed rooms close to tourist areas."
The hotel was well placed for both subway and major dining, shopping and entertainment areas. The triple room was well appointed and comfortable. Helpful and friendly staff. The breakfast was a little squashy and most hot dishes lukewarm.
"Very nice hotel"
Overall a nice mid range hotel. The staff is very friendly and willing to speak english and make your stay a great experience. The hotels facilities are good and the rooms are very clean and provide a good layout. The bed was nice but the pillows are like sleeping on packing peanuts, so bring your own or hope they get better pillows!
"Comfortable small hotel in a great location "
Stayed at this hotel over the New Year holiday. The hotel was full, and a little crowded, but the staff did a great job making everyone comfortable. The rooms are small -- typical of Japanese hotels, but well-equipped and comfortable. There is a public bath -- small, but a nice feature. The breakfast buffet was terrific -- mostly Japanese, with a few Western items. Location is very central and 5 min from the subway. Overall, recommended.
"Cosy Kyoto "
What a lovely hotel! Extremely well situated close to a main train station; beautiful garden in the lobby; helpful and friendly staff and just an all round nice hotel. Room (although very small which I believe is the standard in Japan) was really nice with a comfortable bed fully functional bathroom. Definitely a winner!
