"Central location with historic charm that can't be beat"
We stayed here in Nov for 4 days. The Hotel's common area is gorgeous, I am sure it has been renovated a few times over its 100 plus year history. Hotel features front an back porch with wooden rocking chairs, floor to ceiling windows and doors that fold up to create an indoor / outdoor oasis. The main feature in the courtyard is this massive Banyan tree creating natural shade and seems to be integrated into the hotel. Pool was small but the beautiful ocean is 50 meters away. The room we got was a partial ocean view in the new tower with a balcony and king bed. The Room is pretty much standard Westin quality but could have been decorated better to match the older part of the hotel. Since there are many Japanese tourist we also got a Japanese style automatic toilet which is always nice. The location is the most central of all the hotels, walking distance to everything. We will definitely be back.
"My favorite Honolulu hotel"
This was one of the original hotels in Waikiki which affords it one of the best spots on the beachfront. The banyan tree bar should not be missed particularly at sunset with a cocktail in hand. I love this place.
My fiance booked our honeymoon and all I can say is the hotel made sure that it didn't feel like a honeymoon. We arrived at the hotel and was given the smallest room possible with a single bed. I went back to reception, and on waiting a customer before me who was with his wife and child got a free upgrade. When I requested for a larger room as I was on honeymoon I was told there was no availability and we would only be able to get a room the following day, but that has to be a twin room. It was either sleeping on two separate beds on honeymoon or one of us sleeping on the floor. There was absolutely no hospitality at the hotel and it felt like they didn't care that it was meant to be a special moment for us. You only get one honeymoon in your life and they made sure it was the worst. The location was good but if you want to go shopping. The beach was so packed with general public that there was no room to relax on the beach. The massages were totally over priced and not anything special to what we had in Kauai. On top of that they charged a service charge for the massages. Im confused what was the £900 for, I thought that was for the service. To top things off they took at £1400 out of my credit card on checkin without notifying me so I was left with a declining credit card for the rest of my trip. It was literally one thing after another with this hotel. If you have other options, I suggest you take it
"Paradise in Oahu"
We thoroughly enjoyed our 10 night stay at the Moana Surfrider in Nov 2016. The staff were all friendly and made our Wedding Anniversary extra special. Special thanks to Kenneth at Reception. Kenneth explained all the features of the hotel and restaurants to try (which were very delicious). We had an ocean view room which was heavenly to hear the waves while we slept. The hotel location is excellent (close to many restaurants and right on the beach) and we didn't find the pool area super busy. We were able to find lounge chairs at the pool area when we returned from our excursions around 3pm (most likely because the pool area staff were very good at clearing towels left on chairs and not used for over an hour). The Beach Club Lounge was a nice relaxing area and the staff genuinely enjoyed working there (they always seemed happy). Ocean views while you ate breakfast, what more could you ask for' There was an excellent variety of breakfast items. It saved us a lot of time to eat there, so we could enjoy our time exploring the island. We also had a rental car and there was no problem using the self parking. We felt safe in the parking garage (which was clean) and there was staff at the gate. Thank you Moana staff for making our vacation truly enjoyable. We will definitely be back!
"MOANA SURFRIDER RECENT STAY"
3 nights alone in this hotel. A beautiful hotel with lots of old world charm. I had one of the older rooms- no balcony but a 180 degree view of the beach. Doonas on the bed most unsatisfactory, way too heavy and hot. White linen not nice, it takes away that lovely Hawaiian feeling of flowers on the bedspreads. Food way too expensive but reasonable quality. The Beach Club a better idea for eating, however the cost of 3 nights as a solo traveller was excessive and something you would only do once. Service is excellent, location perfect. A great experience.
