"Excellent service, beautiful views"
We stayed in an Ocean Horizon room and had an amazing view of the water from our patio. The room was nicely appointed and the grounds are immaculate. The service was impeccable and the on-site food was all pretty good. The beach access was perfect and the hotel will set you up with chairs, towels and water on the beach. I'd highly recommend staying at the Montage, we enjoyed every minute of it.
" Luxury amongst the cliffs"
The hotel is amongst the chain of top hotels like the RITZ or Four Seasons with good reason . The GOOD: this hotel is run like a Swiss clock. Walking into the stunning lobby I was greeted by a very warm staff . After checking in I was personally brought to my room by a staff member.Upon entering ,the view took my breath away . Pure ocean with a beautiful balcony . The room was superbly set up and beautifully decorated , the bed and linens were beyond comfortable . The bathroom with a tub that you could sink into . The amenities were generous , full bath soaps , scrub brushes etc. It was hard to leave my room in the morning. When I returned home one evening forgetting to take my do not disturb sign off I called housekeeping to clean my room .they were there in less than five minutes . The grounds are stunning with vegetable and herb gardens for the hotel restaurant. The food is superb. Incredible spa and a gigantic Olympic pool Although there were many functions like weddings and conventions. Any noise from this was stopped by Ten pm, hotel rules. The BAD:The hotel is very large and to find your room is an endless maze of hallways .I got lost more than once ,the elevators are slow .There should be more signs as to where you are going. One almost needs a GPS The UGLY:Nothing ugly about this fantastic palace except checking out of your gorgeous room and hitting the gates of hell traffic to LA on the 405.....
"great location with easy access to the beach"
A beautifuly located property in Laguna Beach. Could be 5 star but fails in a number of little things. Keurig in room but espresso cups. Drawers that wouldn't stay shut. Concierge was hard to understand. The dining rooms were good but not great. Maybe they are trying too hard. The only explanations for the exorbitant prices are the location and the beach. $1250.00 a night for a large pleasant but not luxurious room.
"Hotel needs major renovation"
The view is magnificent, however the rooms are dated. Montage is not what it used to be, home away from home. We had to wait 30 min. for the luggage to be delivered to the room. You have to struggle to open the sliding door or curtains. The shower is very small and slippery. I don't understand why they don't have rain shower. The lounge chairs by the pool are very old and uncomfortable. The beds are too high and toilets too low. If you have problem you have to talk with the manager, otherwise nothing is resolved. I called management before we left to share my opinion about the property and I was told that the hotel will be remodeled next year. It seems I am not the only one having problem with the condition of the rooms. Hopefully they get some Hermes furniture for the rooms and Armani for the spa. If you are used to luxury accommodation this is not the right place for you. We stayed at the top floor for best views.
Check in was super friendly and speedy. Our room was not ready but it was lovely to wait in the lobby and have a coffee while it was getting ready. The ground floor room didn't have great views but it was perfect for our family or 2 adults and 2 young children. The children were able to go outside on the grass and play and it was easy access to the pool. The room was well appointed with excellent bathroom amenities. I didn't notice the rooms being that outdated. The food at the cafe and by the pool was average and very very expensive. Probably because the service by the pool was excellent! All of the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly! The Kids Club was excellent and my children loved it. The property is beautiful and the staff are wonderful. I would stay here again.
