Unimpressive. We booked (and confirmed) a Saturday night "romantic double room" only to find the room had two twin beds pushed together with separate single duvets but a single bedcover over the top. Too late to change we mentioned it (politely) at checkout (after waiting 15 minutes for someone to show up!) and were told "two single beds is what 'double room' means!". Thanks for responding to a patient and polite comment by dismissively insulting our intelligence! Also failed to mention we should reserve a table at the restaurant. We were left trying to book a meal elsewhere late in the day - a disappointment. Nice breakfast and location but, for the rest, little to recommend it. I was left with the impression that it is a faded and slightly shabby place where the staff have lost interest in customer service beyond tallying up the mini-bar bills.
"Enchantment and tranquility"
Only the unbelievable rain, lightning and then a train strike could detract from a really lovely 3 night stay in the excellent Montanus. Service was always responsive and very helpful, the room (7) was comfortable and designed to be accessible for disabled guests and the setting tranquil. The grounds of the hotel take it beyond expectations and were the weather sunny this would be a perfect place to lounge around with a gin or 2. I would not hesitate to book here again and recommend it for a stay of any duration in the enchanting city of Bruges.
We chose Hotel Montanus for a weekend away with friends. We had rooms in the main building. The welcome was more than friendly and very accommodating. A lot of information provided, including ways to minimise parking costs. The hotel itself is very pleasant. Understated modern elegance with a beautiful garden. Our room was ample sized, a calming place with all facilities you might expect in a good hotel. There are no coffee or tea making facilities in the rooms, but self-service tea and coffee are available downstairs free of charge throughout the day. The bed was comfortable, the shower excellent. The beds are made with beautiful linen sheets. Breakfast hours are friendly and the food and drinks available are good quality and plentiful. The fresh bread is noteworthy. We were informed the hotel would have supplied gluten-free options if we had notified them in advance. We spent a little time in the evenings in the cozy bar, where both hot and cold drinks were served quickly and with a smile. We encountered nothing but professional, knowledgeable and very friendly staff throughout our stay. The highlights of the city of Bruges are within easy walking distance. I would definitely recommend this hotel and am likely to return.
This hotel was booked by my fiance as a surprise for Valentines Day!! We stayed in a little villa in the garden and it was absolutely perfect!! The staff were extremely helpful, and made us a hot coffee when it started to rain!
Very friendly and helpful staff, great location close to the main square. The free tea and coffee in the sun lounge was nice, Rooms were spacious and very clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone considering a visit to Bruges.
