Hotel is stunning, as is the room we were in (upgraded to middle tier room). Only negatives was that it was a bit of a trek into town (but I guess good for working off all that Italian cuisine and chianti!) and the restaurant wasn't great. We stayed in for our first night dinner since we were tired from traveling. It was a mistake. Food was good - but definitely felt like a wasted dinner in Italy.
"Good stay tarnished by low service levels"
The hotel is nice, location is about 10-15 min walking distance to the main square of florence, nice walk along the river. So if you don't mind being outside. The rooms were good, clean the bath products were very good! The service level is the hotel is not up standard. They have a unconventional key card and do not disturb system. Firstly none of the rooms power works without a keycard slot. When a key card is in the room (even when you are out of the room) it shows as do not disturb. As a result our rooms were not cleaned till 9.30pm. We called them at 3pm after our return from sightseeing to complain that the rooms were not cleaned (obvisouly we had our keys in the slot to keep the room cool, as it was hot outside) So when we left to room at 4pm, housekeeping maid walked towards our room asking if she could clean the room and we said yes. Upon our return at 9.30pm the room was unclean! The management excuse (which is totally lame) is that we had the do not disturb light on and the maid refused to go in. Couldn't the manager have called the room to realise it was empty' Could they have gone to the room to see if anyone is there' Couldnt they have especially after our complains be more attentive to resolve this issue' NO!! i guess it wasn't part of the SOP (standard operating procedure) to pay particular attention to disgruntled (which we weren't) customer. Not customer service focused. Of course after our complains the next day the breakfast was complimentary. The 1st day, we ordered room service to be delivered at 7.15am as we had a tour at 8am. it didnt arrive till 7.45am after 3 phone calls. We had to leave at 8. hardly had time to eat. 2nd day we had breakfast in the restaurant, the person serving was rolling his eyes as another customer changed table and its just wrong. If they arent happy in their job, stop working do something else. Overall, this hotels staff lack training or basic customer service. the product is good, but it means nothing if your service is sub standard. Customer service and service levels are the top reason why anyone comes back as a repeat customer to a hotel. Especially in a saturated market like Florence, the choices are plenty.
"Elegant Hotel, A little Far From City Center"
We stayed in the Hotel Montebello Splendid Hotel as part of a land tour extension through Uniworld River Cruises. The hotel is located on a side street about a mile from the city center. The hotel is very elegant, the lobby and public areas are very nicely decorated with paintings and mosaics. It appears to be three separate buildings which were combined into one hotel. We lucked out with our room assignment (room 208) and were given a large spacious elegantly furnished room with a sitting area and large bathroom. The bathroom had a double sink and a door on the shower as opposed to the open shower you see in many European hotels. The room had plenty of room to spread out which was nice. My only complaint was that although the air conditioning seemed to put out sufficient cold air, I couldn't get the room as cold as I liked. I think this was because we had direct sun hitting the window during the day, and as in most Italian and European hotels, the a/c only works when you leave your key in the slot on the wall. This saves electricity, but it means that the room will heat up when you are away from it. I did notice that the room was cooler the second night because it had been cooled previously. While it was a little away from the city center, there were decent restaurants a few blocks away as well as a very good gelato place- B Ice. We did walk back from the city center to the hotel, and it took about half an hour, so it is doable. The positive side is you are in a quieter part of town in a more residential neighborhood. The hotel also has parking available which would come in handy if you arrive by car.
"Good Hotel in Florence"
We stayed at this hotel in July, the hotel is lovely, well within walking distance of all the main attractions. The staff are very helpful, breakfast was great, lovely coffee and freshly squeezed juice. The bedrooms are very traditionally decorated, very clean and comfortable the public areas are beautifully decorated, very well worth the stay.
"Must stay in this hotel "
We went there for 2 nights and It was a good experience staying at this hotel, they upgrade my room as my air-conditioning was making some kind of noise. They showed me all kind of room and let me select the room of my choice, staff was very good they understand good English.
