"“Drips And A Bit Of A Drag”"
A refurbished waterpower. Close to shops, restaurants and the train - across the street. Very convenient. I stayed for 14 nights on business. It’s interesting and at the same time- a bit grim. The lobby with the foghorn and the dripping water sound effect, is just depressing. The building is impressive and beautiful and it really feels like a missed opportunity to not make more of a destination of the place. Here’s the good stuff- and there is some good stuff. Breakfast is good and lots to choose from. I upgraded to a jr. suite due to my having to spend 14 nights. The first room they gave me had no place for me to tuck my clothes other than a slim closet. It felt very claustrophobic. I was tripping over my suitcase. The Jr. Suite was an additional $105 Euro’s. Great view. Wonderful windows and room to live for a long stay. Bed and bed linens were very good and the room is spotless. The not so good stuff- The front desk staff were incredibly rude to myself and my business companion. They completely ignored us when we came and went -14 days! They were unhelpful and dismissive and probably the worst staff I have ever encountered for almost $300 a night . The internet came and went and when you called about it, the answer was : “it’s working.” It was not. Upon check out, my nightly bottle of water was removed from my bill for a few nights to compensate me. The towels are threadbare. Odd considering how crisp the bed linens are. The location- great to move around the city and so much to walk to, but as a native New Yorker, I found the long dark walk between the train station tracks and the park incredibly creepy. I was assured by all the folks we were working with, that it is a very safe neighborhood. That did not jibe with the genuine riffraff who made this stretch their hang out. Truly unsavory characters and lots of them. You enter the unattended lower lobby through a glass revolving door (you have to use your room key after 11pm) and go up a long escalator to the actual hotel lobby. There is no concierge at that desk or bellman. Why they don’t have someone downstairs when you come in, I do not know. I wish I could give this place a glowing review and had I not gotten into the Jr. suite, I would have checked out and gone to the Park Hyatt the next day. Will do so on my next trip.
I had a wonderful stay at Mövenpick Hamburg in a SLEEP-room. It was very nice room on the 14th floor with a fantastic view. On the room I found some small gifts with chocolate, eye-mast, earplugs, Herbal tea for best sleep comfort. The sleep comfort was really great in the YouBed with adjustable firmness and big pillows and duvets. The restaurant served a delicious 4-course dinner. Will defenately stay here at my next visit in Hamburg.
I brought a group of people on a study tour so hired a number of rooms for one night. We did not have time to experience all the hotel offered but did eat in the restaurant and used the cave bar. Food was excellent and so was service - if in Hamburg again I would definitely stay here again.
The Movenpick is centrally located, not a great area close to railway line and station but convenient for local bars and restaurants. On pulling up your immediate concern is potential noise from railway line. However, the hotel is quite some way back and you take a moving walkway to reception. Inside is really interesting, old brickwork and little recesses. Its an old round water tower and they have retained many of features including sound amplification of dripping water in the reception area. It's quite dark which is fine at this time of year but may be a bit depressing when it's light outside. Check in was smooth and friendly helpful staff. Room was spacious and well designed and despite looking over railway line no noise! Restaurant had good food- recommend the Twingle menu, three course with bottle wine included 69 Euros for two people. Staff in Cave bar ( appropriately named! ) were really attentive. Only reason not to rate 5* was the water in my room was not hot on two mornings and had to have a near cold shower! Would return a really great alternative to standard business hotel
"Great stay at Mövenpick!"
Just returned from four nights at the Mövenpick. Would definitely return again! Location: Perfect! Steps away from Sternschanze U and S bahn. Tons of bars and restaurants in the area. Also- a Denn´s organic market and Rewe supermarket are within a block, as is a pharmacy. Others have stated the area is unsafe- I did not have that impression at all! Ambiance: LOVE the old water tower feeling. Such a beautiful hotel. Overheard some guests complaining about the sound of water dripping that echoes in some places- I think they just needed something to complain about. I found it cool. :)) Room: Rather basic, but good. We were on the 12th floor, nice views. Bathroom equipped with everything you need. Even a high power hairdryer and rubber ducky! Bed: Super comfortable. I hated the pillow (too flat)- but they do have a pillow menu to choose another one- I didn´t bother. Bar/Restaurant: Cave Bar is delightful. Prices not awful for a hotel bar. Only complaint there would be no local beer. Restaurant- just went for coffee in the morning, husband had the €23 buffet and enjoyed it. Fitness Center: Adequate with several cardio machines, free weights and a weight machine. Sauna, solarium, and a relaxing area. As with all else in the hotel- gorgeous. Staff: SUPER friendly. Business Center: Ont he first floor, two computers and a printer. Nice touch: I forgot to take the "Do not disturb" sign off the door, and they didn´t clean the room. They did, however, leave a goodie bag with fresh towels, toilet paper, etc. outside the door with a note. Nice touches
