We stayed there for 6 days in January and we're completely thrilled. We opted for 2 plunge pool suites and they were stellar. The grounds were nicer than any resort grounds we had seen. There are several pools but we only used the main one as we were mostly touring or at the beach. The breakfast was the best breakfast we had on our relationship country Asia tour. The staff is friendly and helpful as you would expect from thai people. The location is perfect. It's close enough to the madness of patong, while far enough away and peaceful. It's right on the beach and the beach is stunning!! No rocks, no seaweed and very few vendors haggling you. Right outside is a tiny town to buy all of your souvenirs, and walking distance to more. The only thing negative I could point out is that we tried to book excursions and airport transfer from theorem, and they were double the price! Walk to theorem hehe many independent travel agencies, they all sell the exact same trips for a more reasonable price. Same goes for the restaurants; they're convenient and good but costly. Anyone that has negative reviews are just miserable people. We travel extensively all over the world, and struggled to find anything short of perfect.
"It was Ok...But..."
We have been to Phuket before but this was our first time at Karon Beach and we weren't all that impressed with the area. But, it appeals so some people who probably like the hustle and bustle of the area and like to be close to shops and its only a short drive away from Patong. Like other reviewers, we also did this as a Luxury Escapes Package back in November 2016. We upgraded to a pool plunge villa. The plunge pools were only small (unlike the one we had at the Pullmans at Khao Lak). But, we enjoyed having our own space and utilitised the pool eveyday. The villa was nice and a little dated but it was well stocked and comfortable. I liked the wardrobe in the bathroom allowing easier access to clothing. We didn't have too much trouble with the wifi in our location but I can understand that it was a bit patchy in some areas. As we had our own plunge pool we didn't venture out to any other pools at the resort. We did see some entertainment for the kids in the afternoons which looked like fun. As all our meals were covered in the package we ate all at the resort. The food was good until my husband got food poisoning from one of the restaurants. He was really sick and both of us knew there was nothing we could do about it except make him comfortable and keep his fluids up. Unfortunately, I had to venture out one night for dinner by myself, I went to the other restaurant at the resort and I was quizzed by the attendant where my husband was. I didn't want to say that your other restaurant gave him food poisoning, I wanted to spare the other diners who were in the middle of their meals. The experience was really uncomfortable dining on my own. A special part of the resort that did live up to my expectations was the Spa. I had a massage everyday and my nails done once. The staff were professional and provided a really good service. I used the gym on site, a good selection of equipment to keep your fitness up whilst staying here. It has room for a variety of exercise activities, even if you want some quiet space to do some stretching or yoga. During our stay we found some of the other residents somewhat rude and ignorant towards others. They felt it was appropriate to play loud music in their villas and wouldn't even simply smile or nod hello when they walk past. I have never felt this at a resort before, it was strange, they just didn't look happy or relaxed. I think we are more drawn to smaller more remote areas when we travel, we are not bar people and there is only so much reproduced junk you can buy at the markets. Like the heading says, it was ok... but not really our type of resort.
Stayed at this resort for 8 days on my honeymoon. Hotel grounds are lovely although they advertise 4 pools and only 2 of these available to regular room guests others are reserved for villa guests. The rooms were comfortable although could have had more comfortable furniture on the balcony if you wanted to sit out there. The shower in the bathroom was dismal and the bath was very deep and dangerous to get in and out of. The wifi was very poor around grounds and in the rooms. The service was ok but could be improved around the pool... if you did want to purchase a quite pricey cocktail it was difficult to find anyone to serve you. At one point my husband and I decided to bring some water and soft drinks with us and were told we couldn't bring in 'outside food'. Seems a good resort for families not so quite around the pool for adults wanting to relax. Massage at the spa was excellent although too difficult to book. My husband and I had some vouchers to use and they had to go to waste as we couldn't get an appointment on the last two days of our stay.
"THIS HOTEL TICKS ALL THE BOXES FOR US!"
We spent 17 nights at the Movenpick Karon Beach over Xmas and New Year.. This hotel ticks all the boxes for us! We were in a villa facing the coconut pool. The villa was spacious, well appointed and clean. Love the outdoor shower. The bed was so comfy! The grounds and gardens are so well maintained, which makes you feel as though you are in a little oasis. We always had lunch on our Villa patio overlooking the pool, the pool menu was good. The waiters at the pool were very efficient and friendly, as were the pool guards. Ice and fruit were delivered to our room daily in the late afternoon. The staff knew that 5pm was gin and tonic time! The wifi was excellent, ( I totally disagree with Dave F's comment on wifi)) F&B was very good we had breakfast at the beach side restaurant.. We spent Xmas Eve and New Year's Eve at the hotel, both evenings were excellent, the food particularly amazing on New Year's Eve. we could not get into Pacifica so ate at La Gauchi overlooking the beach. It was a set 4 course menu with Australian tenderloin - excellent. Herman F&B manager was highly visible, as was GM Nick. The beach at Karon is lovely, as is the village of Karon with some very good restaurants and lots of atmosphere. We will be returning to Movenpick Karon Beach. As we are experienced travellers, we appreciate a good hotel with a nice atmosphere and good surroundings
"Good value but needs improving"
This was my 2nd time visiting the movenpick. Unfortunately 2nd time round was not as good. The hotel is tired and needs renovating. On arrival we were upgraded into a villa but unfortunately it was dirty and dated so the hotel put us in the main building which was not too bad. It had a larger living room but a smaller bathroom. The hotel has 4 pools. The main pool does not have enough sun beds for all the guests. I recommend going to the coconut pool located near the villas. It is nice and quiet. The pools have little to no food service. The hotel has 4 restaurants however I found that all of them have a similar menu. The hotel is kid friendly and I would recommend it for families. If you are going for a couple get away, maybe not.
