"Awesome place to stay in Florence"
We stayed here in August 2016 for a week having wanted a place just outside the hussle and bustle of the city. Hotel Mulino di Firenze fitted the bill perfectly - it was quiet and situated just by the Arno river around a 20 minute minibus ride from the city. Getting to the hotel from Pisa airport was relatively straightforward, with a bus ride from Pisa to the bus station in Florence, then a walk to the minibus pick up point - unfortunately we missed our minibus reservation due to a delayed flight but we were fortunate to find space on the next minibus trip! We were greeted by Aldo at the hotel and he had made an effort to ensure we had a great room with a view of the setting sun over the Arno river, perfect. We did find the air conditioning in the room was a little loud during the night but you soon adapt to it. We also had an issue with the shower being luke-warm, but this was fixed the next day. Breakfast was very nice at the hotel but we found the restaurant was a little pricey for the food offered. Service was great however, but I think there were better 'Italian' options in the city at a better price. Getting in to the city was easy, we booked the minibus most days but there was always space available, we'd normally get a minibus back without a reservation. The driver was also a wealth of knowledge! We also chose to walk back to the hotel on several occasions, this takes around 1 and a half hours at a gentle pace. The hotel had bikes available, as keen cyclists we were keen to use them! On one of the days we did a lovely 30km ride along the Arno. We also used these to get too and from the city in the evenings. This is my first time visiting Florence and Italy (my girlfriend was keen to take me to Florence having already been twice), having had time to reflect on the holiday I really enjoyed Florence and staying in this hotel. I look forward to more trips to Italy in the coming years! With thanks from James and Jude!
"Great location, great service, great food for those who prefer R&R away from the city center of Florence"
We have stayed at Hotel Mulino twice and loved it both times. Sometimes we prefer to get away from the city center (crowed, noise, lights) to get R&R after a long day in the city. Mulino is that kindof hotel. Too far for walking into town. Garage available for parking. Plenty of taxi's coming by to get you where you want to be. The history of the place - an old mill - is way under-rated. The food service is terrific and the dinning area setting overlooking Tuscany near the river is perfect. Breakfast is very good, too.
"The Cleanest Hotel In the WORLD! Impressive experience!"
My husband and I visited Florence for work & pleasure. The entire experience in this hotel was exquisite. The parking was simple and plentiful, right next to the hotel. The hotel was Florence's Old working Water Mill (very historical) and has beautiful views of the river. You can see the original parts preserved underground as you walk over it on a glass floor. Each room was unique and SPOTLESS (I took a mini tour!). The reception was extremely friendly and helpful - Simona was especially attentive. I am not kidding when I say that this is the Cleanest Hotel I have ever been to. The floors were so squeaky clean, the bathrooms were amazing!!!! They used special perfumed sticks to maintain the freshness. We ended up staying for 5 nights, but honestly I could live there! We had free access to the spa daily, which includes a lovely steam and sauna room (they even offer massages there). The restaurant was absolutely wonderful, offering a really great breakfast and nice meal options - my recommendation is the ravioli with meat, my husband loved the sliced beef. All the waitstaff were clearly trained for top restaurants. Monica was very attentive and friendly. Did I mention the bed was incredibly comfortable' With plenty of pillows and the softest sheets in the world' The bathroom was amazing, I loved the jacuzzi tub. I NEVER actually sit to take a bath in ANY hotel because I am sort of OCD. However, each night I took a DELICIOUS bath in this extremely clean bathtub!!! The toiletries they provided were even ecological and heavenly! Will definitely be back in the future! Cleanest experience of my life!!!
"Excellent choice for Florence (especially for motorcycle)"
I'd happily stay here for a vacation with my wife, as its a beautiful property in a non-chain sort of way. There are nice hotels, and then there are those that have charm, and this place is both. The rooms aren't the Ritz Carlton, but comfortable and reasonably upscale. Our room had a cozy bed, and a vaulted brick ceiling, which made for a pleasant feel. The property is a good distance from downtown, so make not mistake about that. But for my taste its about perfect: about a 10 min cab ride to downtown, but you're sleeping a place thats quiet, on the river, with its own non-hectic charm. As a driver (car or motorcycle), this place is perfect, as you can navigate around Florence easily to access this place, with its underground parking garage, and just leave the vehicle there for your stay, using the hotel shuttle or taxi's for transport to downtown. If you know Italy and Florence well, then you make your judgment about driving there... I do, and don't mind, but its not for everyone. So the plan to leave your car at a peaceful, easily accessible place like Mulino, I would highly recommend, if you don't have previous experience driving in Florence. The staff was very helpful and polite, which is not a given in a city with so many tourists (I don't think I'd be able to keep a good attitude if I worked in the tourist industry there...). Breakfast was very good, and on a nice day I assume you can eat out on the beautiful patio, though it was a bit cool in the morning when I was there on the shoulder season. Internet worked well. Outside grounds area are interesting and enjoyable to walk through. I assume that during the hotter season the pool would be great, though for us we mainly just admired the view during the cooler weather. I've stayed downtown at the Westin Excelsior and the St. Regis, both beautiful and great for different reasons, but the prices have risen so high, that I've found a new favorite now on the outskirts, at the Mulino.
