"First time I had to change hotels"
Staff nice and try to help where they can. But rooms are really not worth the money or the SPG group standard. First room was I think standard room but with outside tub. Nice idea but still overall a disaster for me honestly. Small corner to work in what totally useless because curtain is blocking it. Windows and door that leads outside to the tub and balcony are without any isolation. So you hear everything from the outside. Then changed rooms but still same problem with the windows and balcony door. Now had a wider table but so low as if it is for kids. Not useful for an adult at all. At the end I was forced to change hotels.
"The Hotel To Avoid!"
Room is average and nothing special, toilet is small, lift is slow, lack of facilities, service is bad, please make sure do not arrived at the hotel when its raining as there is no proper covered area between the road side to the hotel entrance. My whole Tumi bag sets was showered by the rain water. For the money you paying to stay at this hotel, I would recommend you to stay at Four Points Riverview which is near by this hotel. Definitely better service and property.
"Romatic Sexy Staycation for Couple"
Beautiful boutique design hotel, clean & comfortable. The bathtub was directly behind my bed which made it look really cook. The location is great. Front Desk Staff were helpful and friendly. Hard to get carpark during peak hours
We stayed here for just one nigh (thank God) The design of the rooms is weird - some kind of a theme in every room. Ours had cactuses on the ceiling ( which looked kind of creepy) Very small room ( pool room) and the open bathroom and toilet (with just the frosted glass) offered no privacy. No breakfast. Kiehl toiletries are good and it is close to the metro - but then you could find lots of good hotels close to metro stations. Would definitely not stay here again.
As the title of my review suggests I have mixed feelings about this hotel. Overall we had a nice stay but I feel there are a couple of fundamental things the hotel is lacking which stop me from giving a higher score. First the good: excellent location - close to MRT and shops/restaurants of Chinatown. Design - the overall look and feel of the hotel is very cool and our room was very funky, we particularly enjoyed using the bath tub in our premier garden room (Flowerchild by Andre Tan). The pool area was lovely and I enjoyed a peaceful morning swim. Extras - Kiehl's toiletries were lovely, the free mini-bar (soft drinks only - more on which later) and use of the small tablet/wifi device to take out was really useful - the last two are quite standard for Singapore hotels though so are not a reason to choose the New Majestic over any other. The staff were friendly, helped with luggage etc and were particularly helpful on the day we left as we had a late flight and had to return to the hotel after we checked out to collect our luggage, Now the bad: the main down side to the hotel is that it offers no restaurant or bar service whatsoever and doesn't even provide alcoholic drinks in the mini bar. I received an email a month or so before our trip informing me that they would not be serving breakfast during the period of our stay. I think I assumed the restaurant was being refurbished but didn't clock that this would mean no food or drink available on the premises at all! I think the thing we missed most was having a hotel bar as we would have liked to pop in for a drink before dinner or a nightcap. Worth noting that Singaporean licencing laws mean they can't sell alcohol in shops after 10.30 so if arriving late don't expect to be able to have a night cap unless you are prepared to go out to a bar! What was really annoying though was that the restaurant was open for private functions during our stay so the New Majestic has clearly decided that they don't need to offer this service to their hotel guests and can make more money perhaps out of private functions. Personally I don't think this is good enough given the amount they are charging for rooms. Secondly although the design of our room was visually funky there were certain practical elements of the design which made it quite uncomfortable, every thing has been done to maximise space to the detriment of comfort, there is nowhere to sit other than the bed, there is only a bedside table (well ledge actually) on one side, the wardrobe is actually a rail behind a curtain a the back of the desk area so a bit difficult to access and worst of all the toilet and shower are glass cubicles in the back of the room. Actually for the shower this wasn't too bad but for the toilet the lack of privacy was a bit embarrassing, we made a joke of it but really it wasn't great - there was a frosted panel of glass but the soundproofing was non existent! Anyway, over all there were some nice elements but the lack of restaurant/bar and the poor design of the rooms would mean that I'd choose somewhere else next time I visit Singapore.
