"Mixed feelings about this hotel"
This hotel is in a good location and museums, shops and bars are within walking distance. We had reserved two superior rooms with views (superior is actually the most basic room) and were given a room on the 5th floor which is the top level. There was a bit of a mix up with the second room so we were given a suite on the 1st floor but moved after the first night. The suite was uncomfortably cold (despite cranking up the heating) and very, very noisy. We were then given the equivalent suite on the 5th floor which was moderately warmer but still quite noisy as it overlooks the canal (nice view though!). The other room was very small but a lot quieter. On the good side the rooms had very comfortable beds and pillows but the carpets were a bit stained in places and it made it feel a little dirty. The bathrooms were clean. The one disappointment was that we came back about 4pm after a busy day of sightseeing and shopping to find that the room had not been serviced so asked for some coffee to be sent up. It didnt arrive until we made another phone call so I enquired as to why the rooms had not been serviced to be told that it was because we were still in them at 9.00. Kind of strange but we told them we were going out at 6 for an early dinner so they said they would be serviced when out, which they weren't, then housekeeping turned up at 9.00 pm to clean them. So if you choose this hotel I would recommend you ask for a quiet room and definitely on the 5th floor.
"Very nice hotel but"
Stayed in a superior room with view, view is worth paying the extra as it overlooks the canals. Room is very comfortable lovely bathroom with good facilities coffee maker, mini bar etc.. It would have been a 5star rating, but the breakfast experience let it down, although an excellent buffet is provided, the service is poor, waiting 20 minutes for coffee to be served is unacceptable and a la carte orders taken by staff was also very slow. If you need to get out and about quickly because you might have a trip deadline to meet - skip breakfast!!
"wonderful stay, great hotel and staff and ideal location"
We booked a 2 night break in Amsterdam in the NH Collection Amsterdam Doelen hotel and we were not disappointed. Staff were polite, helpful and engaging. Room was large, bright and airy with views over the River Amstel and the canal next to our hotel. Lots of restaurants around to choose from - we didn't eat in the hotel as it was only just opening and not ready at that time but breakfast was lovely. The dining room is alongside the canal and river and a great bright room too. We visited's-Hertogenbosch, an hour from Centraal Station, to see the Hieronymus Bosch exhibition and also took the canal tour under the town. It was very interesting and a shame the guide told us in perfect English that she only does the tour in Dutch... We loved Amsterdam
Hotel is in a great location, central to all the main tourist spots. The hotel is set in a quiet street over looking a canal & there are great views from the restaurant. All the staff were really friendly and informative. Especially Nicola in the restaurant. Great choice at breakfast. Buffet style hot food as well as a choice of freshly cooked to order. Fresh fruit, juices, cold meats & cheeses, cereal, cakes and pastries. Rooms were well dressed with a nespresso coffee machine. Excellent toiletries which consisted of shower gel, conditioner, shampoo, body lotion, hand cream, soap. Also provided was a magnified mirror. Toiletries stocked up as well each day. Bathrobes and slippers provided as well. Can't fault the hotel but if I was being really picky the plates at breakfast for the hot buffet need warming as food was cold by the time we'd got half way through it! But such s small thing! We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return. Will also recommend
" Beatiful hotel, faultless service "
I stayed with my husband and 4.5 year old for a weekend in September. The note is beautiful. A perfect mix of old and new. The service was amazing. My daughter was treated like a Princess with all the staff going out of their way to make her feel welcome. Little gifts of coloring sets and stickers from the staff were magical touches for her. We ate in the restaurant from the bar and flexitarian menu. Had to google flexitarian as had no idea what it was but the food was delicious. Both menus were amazing. Chef made a custom dessert of ice cream and sprinkles for my daughter. Hotel is well placed for everything. I love the little shops in the streets close by - jewellery, vintage clothes, gifts, cheese, handbags - it's all there. It's close enough to walk to all the big attractions and of not then take one of the hotel bikes! A definite favourite for me and my family.
