"Good hotel next to the Flower market"
I've stayed at this NH hotel Carlton several times - also in some other NH hotels in Amsterdam but keep on going to this hotel. The location is great - close by the Flower Market and shopping street Kalverstraat as well as DAM square. If you wish to go further, you can take a tram or metro - the transportaion links are excellent. This hotel is really value for money - not a luxurious hotel but good. The breakfast costs 19,80€/person (situation Jan. 2017). It was ok, however, there were hardly any vegetables, no salad - only watery tomato and cucumber chunks and rucola. Same breakfast every day year after year.
"Not as bad as everyone makes out"
I booked this hotel for 3 nights from boxing day as a surprise for my partners birthday, I was hesitant due to the negative comments I had seen before arriving however we never had any issues. Staff were very polite when checking in and out. The room was clean and the location of the hotel was perfect, overall no complaints at all and would definitely stay here again if I were to ever visit again
"From the 7th floor terrace New Years Eve fireworks were amazing"
Great location Needs remodel which is going to happen this year We had 2 rooms 6th and 7th floor with terraces. Both great views. The suite was a comfortable size with nice bathroom. The room was small. New Years Eve prices were a bit high for the quality. Amsterdam is a unique wonderfull place
"Brilliant location and friendly service!"
Having seen some poor reviews of the hotel's cleanliness, I was surprised at how clean the room's actually were. The room was also spacious and offered basic ammenities, including a trouser press, but sadly no iron. The view from our room (we stayed in a standard room with view and terrace) didn't overlook much but we could see the canal and the nearby Amsterdam skyline, which was nice. The hotel itself was in a brilliant location, near to many nice resturauns (including the hotel's own burger resturaunt) and many tram stops, and about a 10 minute walking distance from most major destinations. Being near to Rambrandt Sqaure did make it very loud and hard to sleep for the first night. We stayed for two nights by the way, my girlfriend and I, which we found to be simply not enough time to really take in the brilliance of nearby city. We did have problems with our safe which interfered a little with our available time in Amsterdam, and the service was not quick to fix the safe, although this may be due to understadding in the hotel. However, the staff themselves were all as helpful as they can be, and desk service was always friendly.
"Great location, old rooms, good overall"
Great location, pretty much central to everything! Very friendly and efficient early check in. Rooms are very dated, with poor sound proofing, but the bed was fantastic (I'm a poor sleeper and I slept very sound!) and also fantastic curtains blocking out all light! For the location and beds, I definitely overlook the dated room and would recommend.
