Near the Singel canal, the NH Carlton Amsterdam is a 4-minute walk from the nearest tram stop, a 9-minute walk from Koninklijk Paleis Amsterdam and 1.7 km from the Anne Frank House.
Would recommend this hotel handy location for all amenities friendly staff helpful. The breakfast (ie buffet)was varied something for everyone and anything that was not there you could ask for and they would make it for you .
"Well appointed Hotel"
Good comfortable hotel situated in Central Amsterdam which gives you access to all the major features and landmarks including the flower market and many eating places on its doorstep, this is the hotels biggest asset. The hotel is also well served by local trams should you wish to travel further afield. Previous reviews have commented that the hotel needs a degree of refurbishment (agreed by management who have this in hand),which is to an extent true having found stained carpets which could do with replacing certainly in my room hence my 4 star rating. Having said this my room was clean, warm and well serviced. The staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable and made our stay a pleasant one. Would I stay here again, most certainly'
"Not clean, run down, terrible overall"
The condition that this hotel is in given that it's supposed to be four stars and considering the 220€ and up price per night is absolutely unacceptable. (See photos) Upon arriving to our room we found stains on the walls and wooden furniture , dust, dirty faucets, and worst of all hair in the bathtub and sink. We were switched three times to different rooms, 708, 608, and 540 all in the same unclean state, and all with an unpleasant smell in the rooms. The front desk assistant was quite helpful and understanding however finally by almost midnight we were put in a room on the seventh floor slightly cleaner and were so tired that we accepted it despite still being average. As an NH Rewards member having stayed at other NH Hotels in Europe with excellent quality, cleanliness and service, it greatly surprised me to see a hotel in this state. No compensation from the hotel has been proposed and we are still here until Sunday. Unnaceptable.
"Not recommended Hotel"
Amsterdam is the last city for us to visit for our 3 weeks holiday... We booked this hotel for 1st time and stayed for 4 nights ( November 06 - 10 ) For Location : very perfect ... 10 minutes walk to Dam Square , easy to find food across from hotel... Easy to hop on to Tram ... For Location : undoubtedly good. However, what I did not like is the hotel and the room. We were booking the highest category of the room : superior XL with Terrace Room 725.. Horrible... Whirpool was not operated well... Room carpet was dirty... Bedsheet was not perfect clean... The coffee glass was not available... Phone was not functioning well... I have to raise complaints for this matter.. Gosh... what a bad service for such basic service for 4 star hotel. I would never stay at this hotel again if we travel to Amsterdam. The decoration for the room is quite old-fashioned as well as the hallway..
Well located hotel but the decor, carpets etc in some areas is old and tired. The room itself was spacious with a comfortable bed and a good sized bathroom. The breakfast was very good with friendly attentive staff. The most disappointing aspect of the trip was my experience at check in/check out. I was struggling to carry a large, heavy suitcase plus a wheelie bag, laptop and other bag and was not offered any assistance in carrying to and storing the heavy suitcase in the left luggage facility, not what I would expect from any hotel let also one that purports to be a 4 star. Also found one of the receptionist's manner to be verging on plain rude. In summary the location is good but don't stay here if you need any assistance with bags !
