We booked in at the Novotel Hong Kong cemetery, the rooms are small compared to what we are used to, but they are clean and comfortable. The hotel is well centred in town close to shops, restaurants and the in house restaurants are pretty yummy too with a good buffet menu. Lots of potions from continental to pastry's and fresh fruit!! I would recommend staying here if you don't mind being across on the island!! It's 45 mins from the international airport, bout $60 Australian dollars from the airport to the hotel!
Was fortunate to be given day use of a room at the century after a long journey down from Europe with a 15 hr stop over!! Met on arrival by Mr Pang, assistant manager who was extremely thoughtful, professional and extremely helpful. We were upgraded by Mr Pang to a very nice room on the 18th floor and after a beautiful hot shower bed!! What a lovely bed as well, very sumptuous and comfortable. Because we were only sleeping in the room for a few hours we never used any of the other hotel facilities but will certainly return here when next in Hong Kong..
Somehow convenience due to the location closer to MTR and close to commercial buildings. Breakfast was standard and not much interaction with the Hotel's staffs. Basically this is the straightforward business / leisure hotel with not much interaction and the staffs. Foods down the street are pretty good but a bit pricey for a normal restaurant and for shopping you can just walk over to the CWB. Overall a decent stay
"Smells and scents add to the look and feel"
It was my second time at this Novotel with a gap of 1.5 years in between visits. The moment I entered the lobby on a mid-afternoon this visit, I was pleasantly reminded of the scent of the lobby from my first one. I call it scentscaping, i.e. the smell of the place when you step in. It is not just about the look and feel but, for me, what odors and scents permeate the place also. I do love the scentscaping done on the lobby. Considering the number of people lounging around in the lobby, maintaining that fresh scent all day is commendable. Once I reached the nonsmoking floor I was assigned to, I was overwhelmed by the yucky smell of lingering cigarette smoke that sticks to the walls and carpets in an aircon setting. It was just awful and at a nonsmoking floor at that. In my room, I could finally take a deep breath and found a neutral, non-odor in it. No wet towel in a gym smell here. What a relief. Decided not to raise the concern on the floor lobby cig smoke smell, thinking it was a fluke for that day and giving the establishment a second chance. Sure enough, the next morning, the cig smell was almost gone. The other scents I liked were those from the eco-friendly shampoo and conditioner provided -- not cloyingly sweet but fresh and mildly floral. Net, the smells and scents of the place matter to the overall experience. Hoping for a fresher experience next time.
"Restful stopover, friendly service and great facilities"
Really glad that I 'upgraded' to a Premium room. It allowed me to access my room early in the morning (8am) and check-out late (1pm). It also included afternoon tea, breakfast (both very good) in the Premium lounge area. In the evening it also included drinks (wine, beer, soft drink, spirits) and canapes (all really tasty) in the lounge too. It was a great place to spend time relaxing and made my trip home much more comfortable and easy. The staff were super friendly, taking time to chat with me and give suggestions on things to do. The bed was super comfortable too, and my room had a view of the water. The swimming pool is a good size to do some lap swimming. There is a free shuttle bus to the Airport Express Train Station (Hong Kong station) running every 20 mins from the carpark at the front. It is also a short walk to Wan Chai train station - although I do not recommend using this station if you have large suitcases as there are not many lifts/escalators and the turnstiles don't allow easy passage of your suitcase. If you have a suitcase, take advantage of the free shuttle bus. The only downside was the air-con in my room was very noisy, and I overheard another guest saying hers was too, but I used my earplugs and had no problem.
