"Should have read more reviews!"
We should have researched the area that this hotel is located in as our room seemed to face the street where there were groups of noisy men standing around below our window for most of the night, just around the corner from the red light district of Geneva. But on the plus side, the proximity to the lake and old town was fantastic, the breakfast was great, room clean enough but needs a refurb, beds very comfortable. We should have asked for a change of room to move away from noise below but only had a short stay!
"Decent hotel, provides the minimum standard of a big chain. Poor area."
Happy with the room, the staff and breakfast. Very clean and spacious. The only thing I would like to be aware in advance would be the location. Not the best neighborhood in town. Would go again but only on a business trip.
At the centre, perfect location, also close to good restaurants and cafes. Public transport from this hotel is very accessible and area is mixed with old and young residential areas. Not the most modern hotel. Breakfast is somewhat below average for the price you pay. Room is ok, you pay more for location. Good cocktail overall.
I agree with a number of the comments. Very small room, small bathroom for 240 ChF but I suppose this is Geneva and you must expect it. Gourmet Bar, does Novotel not understand the word Gourmet' very poor choice of food. Dirty glasses not removed every day and the 4th floor smelt of what my wife calls 'drains' . I only really stayed here because of the Novotel brand. If I ever come back to Geneva, I don't think I shall be staying here. Three plus points, excellent free wifi, good location near the lake and a very good barman!!
"Expected more from Novotel"
Got there with my children, one in a pram and 5 pieces of luggage. My husband had to lug it down flight of stairs with no bell boy to help. Service people so very friendly but obviously not trained properly. Room was clean, pillow small and strange size. Breakfast was terrible. The scrambled eggs looked and tasted disgusting. Really, it was inedible. My kids wanted to heat up cold pancakes and were told to rest them on top of the toaster. The toaster itself doesn't work properly and it was alarming to see people poking knives, forks and anything else they could reach to fetch their toast that was stuck, VERY ALARMING! The hotel is in a dodgy area, best not take children out at night. Prostitutes and pimps line the adjoining street. Stayed in with the kids to have dinner at the hotels restaurant, Gourmet Bar it's called. Never seen anything so tacky in a 5 star hotel. Should be called gourmet "jar". The meals are literally in a jar that I can only assume is popped in a microwave or oven to heat when ordered. It wasn't cheap either! 44€ for 2 "jars" and a large bottle of water. I asked the young waiter which jar he recommended and his response was "I'm not you, you need to pick what you like". That was when he finally took his eyes off the t.v show he was following. Again, really nice staff but obviously not trained. Only gave them 2 because staff tried their best and the hotel is really close to public transport. We thought we could trust the Novotel name, we will be weary next time.
