"Not the best of hotels"
It was a nice hotel very close to good restaurants and not far from the El Fna square. We had Twin room. Unfortunately 1 bed was very incomfortable so one of us ended up sleeping on the sofa. The toilet kept running and had to call maintenance 4 times during our 7 night stay. Had to chase fir towels and paper cups. Stange room layout. Toilet on one side of the room and bath and shower on the other end. Don't think we will choose this hotel again
We stayed at the hotel in July 2016 for 10 nights. It's safe to say management in this location is subpar and this branch clearly does not live up to the image the Novotel brand hold across the world. Some of the problems we encountered: ROOMS They initially gave us a room with a completely obstructed view of the swimming pool. We had to complain to get them to move us which is not what I'd expected considering we had paid extra for a pool side view. The listing mentioned a Nespresso machine in the room which was not included and after asking, staff still refused to provide one. The maids would come daily and take our used towels but not leave new ones. Forcing us to chase them for towels almost daily. They would also "forget" to replace the refreshments the hotel provides such as coffee packets, tea bags, milk capsules, paper cups and shampoo. For some reason, reception set our card keys to expire every day. Forcing us to ask at reception to renew the cards EVERY DAY. The air con in the room is purposely weak. Only the fan function seems to work. It does not actually refrigerate the room at all. Mini fridge is also purposely underpowered. It requires at least 24h to refrigerate a measly 500ml bottle of water. Mattresses are rock hard and uncomfortable. Sheets and pillowcases had stains on them. SWIMMING POOL Staff did not restock toilet paper in the bathrooms around the swimming pool area. You had to bring your own or you'd be out of luck. Staff are allowed to bring friends and family to the swimming pool who then proceeded to play obnoxiously loud music through portable speakers (alongside the obviously typical bad musical taste that accompanies this behaviour) and even after several complaints, staff are hesitant to confront and discourage such behaviour. Hotel staff were also very complacent and said nothing about a woman who was throwing cigarette butts on the floor instead of the ashtray literally next to her in the swimming pool area. She was chain smoking mind you so we're talking more than 10 cigarette butts. Smoking is allowed in public places in Morocco so I don't have a problem with smoking per se, but her lack of common courtesy. The cigarette butts were making their way into the swimming pool where kids and everyone else was playing. I confronted her myself since staff failed to do anything despite my complaint and she played the "this is Moroccan culture" card despite the fact she was the only person I ever saw doing that in this hotel, the new city and the restaurants we've been to. Staff did not bat an eye and seemed happy to pick up the butts after her and unconcerned about them getting into the pool. Slow service around the swimming pool. Loads of staff members around but they are slow to respond, bring menus, etc. Saying that, I am positive Novotel will copy paste their bog standard response underneath this review and call it a day. However, it is up to you fellow holidaymaker to decide whether this description sounds like a four star hotel to you and a place where you'd like to spend a few days.
"Good location, very helpful staff, would recommend"
We enjoyed our stay here. The staff were always very helpful, room was very nice, the adjoining restaurant had great atmosphere, good food and good service. The hotel is in a good location only 30 mins walk from the Souks. Only complaint would be the shower which seemed to have a mind of its own, vacillating freely between boiling and freezing. Other than that, perfectly fine place to stay, would definitely recommend
"Not what you'd expect of a Novotel"
I booked for 5 nights for a family of 5. First impressions, good location set amongst better star hotels. Check in efficient and friendly. First allocation of connecting rooms smelt of drains which no amount of body spray could mask. Had chipped drinking glass dirty carpet and stained toilet bowl. No bedding or pillows for the sofa bed despite booking a 3 ppl room. Complementary tea/ coffee for one- when queried at reception advised only provide for one person'' Room booked for 3'! After trying to mask the smell and gagging every time smell wafted through room,Visited reception. Offered room change, which we accepted. These rooms were odour free, no tissues, toilet paper or remote controls for TV's for either room. Called reception who provided one control , explained need for each room, they obliged the TVs don't work regardless of control being provided. The hotel advertises free in house movies available but this TV function didn't' work! Lumpy duvets, flat stained pillows hard mattresses, leaking showers and stained flaking bathroom grout all makes for an uncomfortable stay!
Wanted a couple of relaxing days in Marrakech so went for a brand name as thought this would guarantee a stress free stay but was pretty much the opposite. Asked for an iron twice - was told it was being brought up to the room. An hour later asked again and was told the same. Got a call back to the room to tell me that guests should use the ironing room (not sure why it took an hour to let me know). The one iron (i.e. the only one available in the entire hotel) in the ironing room had plastic stuck to the bottom of it which stuck to clothes (see pic). The iron was replaced after complaining. To be fair the manager was within earshot and this got resolved relatively quickly as a result. Luckily managed to pick the dried plastic off clothes. Ordered food at the hotel pool. Had to walk to the indoor restaurant to order as the pool staff went AWOL for about an hour. Was then given the wrong order (it arrived pretty quickly and happened to be exactly the same dish that the group next to me had just sent back for some reason). Service from pool staff was generally quite abrupt and rude. Hardly had any toilet paper in the room. Asked for some toilet paper to be left in the room when we were on the out of the hotel in the evening which we were told would be set to the room and the receptionist made a note. Returned four hours later and still nothing. Had to go back to ask again and finally managed to get some about 20 mins later. Positives are that the bar is ok and the breakfast was ok if you can get it included for a decent rate. Overall not worth it at all.
