"Nice Hotel, Great Service"
I like this hotel as it is new and modern. The only issue is taking the public transport to get there as the taxi charge is very expensive if Rotterdam is your first time. The hotel should do a better job of advertising directions.
We stayed in the Novatel for 10 nights in August 2016. We chose the place to be near recitatives but it is walking distance to a station with easy connections to Rotterdam or Amsterdam. The rooms were good and clean, staff very friendly. The only suggestion I would have is to improve the in room tea & coffee making. It would be nice to have real cups as opposed to paper cups
"How I survive my own death"
When I was deciding which hotel will be my second home for 4 days during a business trip in Holland, so I opted for a 4-star hotel Novotel Rotterdam Schiedam (address: Hargalaan , JA Schiedam, Netherlands). First evening, 13.10.2016 after arrival, I visited the hotel restaurant, where I and my business partner ordered a steak with vegetables and French fries. I was ordered also a bottle of water. The waitress did not bother to ask whether sparkling or still water. Of course brought sparkling water. I told myself - let it be, I did not specify what water you want - sparkling or still, so it´s partly my fault. With the taste we waited for ordered dinner. When they brought it, my sixth sense is already looking at a plate of saying that something was wrong. Food was at first glance nicely arranged, but ordered steak at "MEDIUM" quality was served slightly charred. My fears were confirmed when the first attempt to pare it the first bite. It gave me a lot of effort to separate him from what even a little bit piece. After a long work, I finally succeeded. So I put it into my mouth and came another disappointment - instead of the taste of fresh meat, I felt that I put into my mouth soles of shoes used a lot. After a futile attempt to chew the piece ended up in a napkin and I didnt give another chance to this "steak". I turned my attention to vegetables and fries. Business partner miraculously overcame his serving - a word that, in the Netherlands to a quality steaks are accustomed. I just smiled and did not address it more. Immediately after dinner (if I can call it that) we complained of the quality of service that we are not satisfied with what we brought. Guy, in which we raised a complaint saying that he looks after, and the next day I got a surprise from him as an excuse. However, I love myself, so I will post the next day this restaurant a wide berth and his "surprise" I'm delighted to get away .... .... In that time I still had no idea what will coming. Due to the fact that I came to Holland to work and not on the trip, and the next morning I had a scheduled business meetings. Unfortunately, I had to dismiss him. Since early morning I did not feel good, my stomach started playing solidly techno party, and I was forced to dance over the toilet bowl. The same problem had also my business partner, which the night before was "degusted" with me.The party lasted until late afternoon. It was impossible to called by phone to hotel reception, button marked reception was out of service, personally I could not go to the reception - I was busy dancing around the toilet bowl. The only thing I thought was to address the cleaning lady that would not help me. This, however, apologized that she could not do anything, it can jump up to his manager. So I "danced" away knowing that someone comes to help. At a knock on the door, I was pleased that my problems will soon be ended, but it did not happen, cause cleaning lady just came back to say that the manager could not finded. I immediately went to celebrate this report to the toilet. Business partner, came on meeting (to where we should be together) checked me at least on the phone. After a while he came to me. He told me that he already discuss about at reception and someone comes to see me. On the one hand, I was pleased his concern, and I appreciated it, but on the other side note, what must his olfactory sensors to record when entering the room where the party took place throughout the morning was not pleasant to me thus. However, a person in distress stud pushes sideways, so I did well and I was grateful that I not die somewhere 1000 km from home, lonely and without help (I in fact felt). Miss came up from a reception, brought me according to my request, banana and dry bread and tea. Although I requested chicken broth, but the Novotel not know what is this. So I settled for tea and dry bread. Even so, I did not know whether such a charge in itself can keep. I kept, but Ive never eaten one slice of bread an hour ... "Man proposes, God changes" as we say. And as the phone is concerned, Miss which delivered me of bread and tea tried to call by that phone button to reception - found it out its not working, so he asked me if I want to send someone to fix it - No. I do not need anymore, my death I have defeated myself and other guests no need for a desk phone with the option to call the reception in case of a problem - how such a thing could she ever ask '! At my insistence, I do not want anymore to stay in bed, we were with my business partner headed toward the city of Rotterdam to seek the chicken broth. It achieved in a cozy restaurant where my request was served only dry pasta and cook my chicken soup even though it did not offer at menu. The color of my skin suddenly changed from dead-white to pink, but inside still resonating tones of techno party. But I have been able to survive and function relatively normally and divert at least some work had been planned. Discussions with the hotel mamagement I kept on departure day, I still wanted to be full strength. And a management position at my check-out' None of the other accommodated guests complained, at least they had prepared for me DESSERT as an excuse, and I did not came for. DESSERT - if you are not able to hold down or sip of water - How great solution they was offered to me. After a long conversation, and eventually compromising on my insistence that I refuse to pay the lost day "hilarious" dinner - their proposal was 50% discount on the dinner and nothing more !!! Thank you for your willingness and helpful to solve the problem, NEVER MORE Novotel not visit, Im not suicidal, and I will not recommend it to my friends and business partners.
"Convenient and Smart"
This place looks a bit dreary and bland from the outside, but in side is a very smart, clean and modern hotel. Very quiet rooms with good facilities, friendly smiley staff. The breakfast was ok, nothing special but it wasn't bad either with quite a good bit of choice. It seems the Dutch aren't that big on the cooked breakfast though, which is not the hotels fault. The location is handy for the main roads in the area and if you fancy a run ot a jog there is a great park about a 500 metres away across the road.
Pleasant and accommodating staff. Clean rooms. Quiet corridors and common areas making it easier to get a good night's rest. Only negative is that there are minimal dining/retail options around hotel within walking distance and therefore will require use of bike or public transport if coming in from out of town.
