"Decent but nothing special"
I live in London but travel to Belo Horizonte several times a year to visit my wife's family. I've stayed in many of the cities 'best' hotels and thought I'd give Ouro Minas a try as I'd always heard good things. I had high expectations because I know many people stay here for weddings, honeymoon, etc and the hotel is generally regarded as the best hotel in the city. Having stayed in many hotels around the world, I'd say this hotel is comparable to a 3/4 star hotel in other big cities. The pool/gym area is nice, rooms are a good size and clean, service is friendly. However, like many hotels, I think Ouro Minas lives off reputation / name alone so doesn't have to try very hard - the hotel appears dated and tired in places and is in need investment. In summary, the hotel is nice but nothing spectacular. There's almost certainly better value and better located options in BH.
We recently stay in the hotel and I have to say we had enjoyed it a lot. Is is not in the centre of the city and you are going to need a car to move around, but the staff in there are really helpful and know their way around. I Would you like to leave a big thanks to Frederico for making our breakfast more enjoyable and all the tips he have given to us when we were at the bar enjoying a complementary caipirinha provided by the hotel.
Great staff and facilities. Very comfortable room, with a good bed and kind staff, providing all you need. Pool area has a jacuzzi, with a heating water system. Restaurant and breakfast are excellent too. If going to Belo Horizonte, this is a great option.
"great location, great health facilities"
had the pleasure of staying at the hotel for a couple of days. Had plenty of time this visit to take in the health club and pool area as well as do some quick touring and dining. the facilities were clean and well attended to. Free weights and a machine set up as well as tread mills stair machines and a stationary bike. There is a very large wet sauna and a standard size dry sauna with whirlpool all with proximity to the pool that is large enough to do some short laps. The local area is safe during the day but I would highly recommend the buddy system at night. Many restaurants and bars in the mall across the street as well as a large big box style of store attached. which has food as well - think super walmart or target. The hotel breakfast was exceptional as well as the lunch options. The hotel staff as a whole was extremely helpful and willing to work with my language barrier. I must say that they went out of their way to make the stay great with great suggestions on things to do down town and ways to get there via public transportation (all linked into Google Maps).
"Great hotel in the big city!!"
My husband and I stayed at Ouro Minas for 7 days, 6 nights with 7 other family members as my husband's son was marrying a local girl. Found everyone very friendly and helpful, even though very little English was spoken. Hotel itself was very clean and beautifully maintained and no complaints at all about the room and the accommodations within. Full buffet breakfast was included and other than language barriers with non-English speaking omelette/pancake bar chef, choices were plentiful and you never left with an empty stomach. Restaurant on site served amazing meals (we had an incredible waitress time and time again and I apologize for not remembering her name) and room service was reasonably priced and plentiful. Large mall directly across the road took some navigating to figure out how to get to it, but it had everything and anything you wanted or needed. Overall, a great place to stay and tons of opportunities and places to go and check out the city.
