"Although it didn't start off so well, it was a great experience overall."
I'll put my summary first --- Would I come back here' Absolutely, as long as I got a renovated room. The staff, in all aspects (especially Pella), were excellent.... from the room staff to the front desk to the bar. All very courteous. The location was great as well. First, it is important to note that the hotel is undergoing room renovations. When I got to the hotel at 11:45AM, I had not problem getting an early check-in. I proceeded to go to my room and unpacked my stuff during my lunch break. I was staying for work from Monday to Friday and had reserved the "Queen Deluxe Suite". I had a lot of mixed feeling about the room when I got in there. The room itself was very big.... lots of open space. Full kitchen including fridge, dish washer, sink & stove, with some utensils and plates. Even though I never use them, the kitchen was loaded with wine, beer and spirits. Detergent for the in-room washer and dryer were also made available. (The washer and dryer were in a closet.) The room also had a love-seat, and lots of desk space to do work. Unfortunately, this was a room that hadn't been upgraded yet, so it did look worn down. Lots of scratches in the hardwood and furniture. Definitely not a room with a 4-star rating, but I decided that I wouldn't worry about it and continued with my day.... It is worth mentioning that a "non-upgraded room" does have one BIG feature that I discovered in the morning: The shower was not "environmentally friendly". The water pressure was something I hadn't experienced in a long time as was very welcome. While shutting off the lights before leaving the room that morning, I came across some sort of yellow slime that was sticking out of on a light switch. I don't know what it was, but I was rather gross and I wasn't impressed. While passing through the lobby on my way out I expressed my concern and my desire to get another room to Pella, who was managing the front desk at the time. She was great and understood my concern. She checked the computer, and made arrangements with me to come back at lunch; when a different room would be ready for me. When I returned, Pella was waiting with a new key and asked me to have a look to make sure the room was alright. It was.... and what a big difference. Much brighter room which was recently renovated that had most of the amenities as the original room had. The lack of all the alcohol was a good "missing feature". The room also appeared to be a little bit bigger. My only complaint about the newly renovated room was the lack of a comfortable sitting area. Instead of a couch or love-seat, they had a raised circular bar table (about 2 feet in diameter, and higher than a dining room table) with two stools. The stools had a very short back rest. This table would only be good for eating and short duration laptop use. It is not a chair to use to watch TV. All of my TV watching (which really wasn't much overall) was from the bed and using 3 of my pillows for back support. This wasn't such a bad thing..... BUT a reclining single-person couch would have made this room 100 % perfect for me. There certainly was space for it. And, oh yes, the bed only had one end-table; which was fine for me because it was on the "correct" side. I can see how that might be an problem if my wife was staying with me.... Again to the staff: Thank you very much!
"Great location, friendly staff"
I booked the hotel through one of the random deal sites and got an alright price. When you book the Pantages you're paying for the location, right in the heart of downtown Toronto. The lobby was modern and had a boutique feel but the room I was given didn't have much of that boutique character. It was a comfortable and clean space, it was nice to have a kitchen but the feel didn't match the rest of the hotel. It was still a nice place to stay and if I was to find another deal on it I would stay there again.
"Perfectly nice hotel"
Stayed for one night this week (Jan. 5 2017). The room was clean, large, and perfectly nice, the staff was courteous, and the location was terrific. The room had all the basic amenities (ironing board, good desk space), and also a kitchenette area which, though I did not use it, seemed very functional for longer stays. No complaints in any case.
"Stay at the Pantages!"
What a great stay at The Pantages! The staff were very polite and helpful, offered us a late check out at no cost, as we were seeing a late matinee at 3 the next day. When we were checking out, Samuel took care of our bags, offering to store them for us so we didn't have to drag them to the theatre! Our room was fantastic, clean, bright, spacious, and more amenities than most, as in full kitchen and large bathroom. This hotel is located close to Yonge and Dundas square, fabulous restaurants (go to the Senator just down the street for breakfast, soon good!) and a short walk to the Eaton Centre. You can get to the Entertainment district in about a 15 minute walk, a bit chilly in the winter, but would be enjoyable in the summer. All in all, a great stay!
"Great Value for the Price"
We booked Pantages through their website using the CAA discount. It was a great deal- $96 for a Wednesday night in a King Suite. The Suite was lovely and large- king bed, nice bathroom, spacious room, kitchenette with dishwasher and refrigerator. Stayed in 1213, nice clean room. Parking was valet- $40 (a smidge pricey in my opinion). The valet driver was absolutely wonderful and pleasant! Parking was somewheres close to the hotel as valet was super quick. Upon checkout, Pella was wonderful and corrected an accidental error as we were overcharged. She was understanding and quick. This hotel would've perfect for anyone visiting St.Mikes as it is literally right across the street. The Eatons Centre is within a five minute walk and the Ed Mirvish theatre is right beside the hotel! Amazing central location. I couldn't hear the ambulances for St.Mikes through the night so that wasn't an issue. We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant or use any of the amenities. There is a spa and business centre that I know of and they seemed nice from the outside.
