"Ahhh-MAZING! Paradise in the Mountains"
As i write this review I am looking at some of the others that are posted - some giving it lack-luster ratings...this has been my first experience at the Panviman so I have nothing else to compare it to but it sounds as though perhaps some time ago it was even more amazing than I thought it was....I had no real expectations going into this resort...we booked it just knowing that we wanted to get out of the main part of Chiang Mai and up into the mountains just for a day/night....we arrived at night so while the drive up to the resort was amazing we did not get to see all the views from the property until the next day. We were upgraded to a room with a hot tub on the balcony (our original room had a sauna - still amazing but I love hot tubs and my hubby loves saunas so I was more pleased with this upgrade then he was LOL) we were taken to our room by a resort staff member in a golf cart type property vehicle and when we walked in I was speechless! Huge open room with king bed - large sliding glass doors that allowed us to look out to the forest area from our bed....welcome fruits and drinks...windows all around - gorgeous window coverings - tv - cd player with nature sounds playing - mini bar/fridge - huge bathroom - two shower heads in a large glass shower- robes - and of course the hot tub on the balcony with private curtains all around! EASILY a 400$ - 500$ room in the states....for a fraction of that! And that was just the room! We had dinner that night with our friends in the hotel restaurant - fine dining - such reasonable prices to the quality and caliber of the resort. Maybe I am just used to the "resorts" in the states and how inflated prices are for EVERYTHING but this was beyond reasonable! We all had traditional Thai dishes - dessert and wine and there was a group of young men playing music for entertainment! Such a great experience! That night we had probably the best sleep - bed was very comfortable, pillows were to die for - I wanted to take one lol (I didn't though). The next day we went and had the buffet breakfast while sitting outside looking over the mountains! Words cant describe! The breakfast was delicious - lots of fresh fruits and juices; warm and cold meal options! we were stuffed and it was complementary! We spent the day exploring the grounds and laying by the pool. We stayed by two of the pools and were not bothered by noise or other guests - the infinity pool was crystal blue and refreshing (meaning chilly haha but still nice). While walking around we came to some waterfall caves which were labeled as the meditation caves! It was so peaceful. We did see some areas that were no longer being used....i.e. a massage place that was seemingly abandoned some overgrown landscaped areas etc. but rather than be turned off by it I thought it was interesting and mysterious :) I can see what some of the other reviewers were talking about but none of the areas were easily visible - you had to explore to find them! I would absolutely stay here again! The staff was very attentive to our needs - the property was AMAZING and the price was really hard to believe! Such a great "treat" after being in the hustle and bustle of busy Chiang Mai
"Ok.....expected a bit more"
The "hay day" for this place is long gone. The buildings desperately need some maintenance. The place looks and feels very tired. My wife booked us a pool villa. The room is very spacious and well equipped including a huge bed and spa bath. We probably should have booked the cheaper jacuzzi suite as unless your European or the like you won't get in the pool......its freezing. The pool get little to no sun at all. The best thing about this resor is its location. Everything touristy is a short drive down the hill. We hired a scooter from the resort and spent the day seeing the various attractions before cruising up and around the mountains.....probably the best thing we did in all Thailand this trip......awesome ride! We used the spa a couple of times. The ambience is quite nice, however, very tired. Our first treatment wasn't too bad, not quite as good as what you pay for as the pricing is more than Western standards. The second time we used the spa we booked a 3 hour package.....it was a waste of time and money......they didn't ask us to provide feedback that time either''' The food here is ok, certainly not bad, but nothing outstanding either. Breakfast could be done a little better....maybe some hot bacon for example instead of cold bacon that has been sitting on the bench for a couple of hours. The staff are friendly and look after you to the best of their ability. The F&B Manager in particular does everything in his power so that you are comfortable and enjoy your stay, this included issues outside of the F&B department. The hotel had a huge company function one night that we were there. The function being right outside our door......why they put a function area outside of the four best rooms is beside me' During the setup one of the roadies decided to let everyone in Mae Rim know how good his speakers were. We asked to be moved....maybe to a Jacuzzi Suite but were offered the Pool Villa next to ours' We also had a dish washing station setup under our balcony. The manager apologised for the inconvenience on our departure the next morning. I'm left with mixed emotions on this place.....the Four Seasons was twice the price for the equivalent room. We did go there for a coffee as well, it was clean and well maintained.....2 coffees were US$25 though......If they fixed this joint up a little, brought back the spa guru and concerntrated on more of the little things this place would be the place to go.........and don't have boom box parties next to your best rooms!
For a property of this age, it is showing it - one can see how experiences can be mixed depending on how well maintenance has been kept up for that room. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Well located for the tourist delights of the Mae Rim valley (without having to brave the trek to/from Chiangmai Mai old city) we rented a scooter and explored the beautiful countryside. We stayed in a pool villa which was probably the wrong choice for the season given it is not heated, it was used once during our 3 night stay. On our last night, right opposite our villa on the outdoor terrace, there was a rather loud locals function which made it impossible to enjoy the serenity of the place. We would have appreciated being informed in advance this was the case and perhaps being offered an alternative room. Compared to other resorts in the area, we thought it was priced ok, but really needs a major facelift to offer a consistent experience.
"Amazing Break mid backpacking tour."
Me and my partner stayed here last august in the middle of our backpacking tour around SEA. What an amazing experience and a real few days of luxury in the Chiang Mai Mountains after months of small hotels and stuffy cities. We were picked up from the airport by the Hotel staff and made to feel like royalty throughout our stay. I would recommend this hotel to anybody, its true luxury and relaxation. A Must. Everything about it is sublime.
"Wonderful and memorable holiday"
Absolutely love this resort, fully immersed in the natural scenery surrounded by friendly and helpful hotel staffs. On the arrival day, we left our backpack in the airport, while we were panicking, hotel staffs managed professionally and offered great help. Special thanks to Mr Charles and Mike! :) Although the resort is located 45 minutes from old town, the shuttle bus services are sufficient for our tour's traffic. It doesn't seem that long after all as you got a chance to interact with the other tourists and appreciate the beautiful scenery along the way. Spa and massage in the resort are also highly recommended. We did the stress-relax massage and felt the same way as the massage name~ We love this resort, it just adds on a lot to our trip in Chiang Mai and we highly recommend Panviman to you!
