We spent two nights at the Panviman following on from a few nights in Chiang Mai. It is very peaceful and a nice way to relax. Our taxi from CM cost 700 baht, which was very reasonable. The hotel is set in the hills and has many nice views. It's perfect for a short quiet relaxing break. There were a small number of guests (maybe 20) staying at the same time as us. The swimming pools were pretty cold but we enjoyed the jacuzzi adjacent to our room much more. I particularly liked the souvenir shop. It has a great selection of gifts and is exceptionally well-priced ( 160 baht for a handmade wooden photo-frame - I bought two ! ) Service is excellent here and most of the staff have a smile on. Breakfast is great and there is a good selection of food at the restaurant for lunch / dinner. Although there is a 'Kids Club', I wouldn't bring a child here mainly because there probably won't be other children to socialise with and boredom might set in. I would recommend that the hotel looks to improve the number of Western TV channels available.
"Can still improve the service"
We stayed in the hotel just for a night and nothing much to complain except that we arrived in the hotel at 17:30 and we were informed that the room is not yet ready. We need to wait for couple of minutes before we got the room. No apologize been heard from the manager on duty except from my friend who's not on duty that time. The breakfast is excellent, wide range of food plus the fantastic view. The location is a bit far to everything but nice place to relax. You will enjoy the tranquility of the place if thats what you're looking for! Definitely, will still recommend!
"Heavenly place in the mountain area in Chiang Mai...."
Stay there with my wife for 5nights in their normal Standard Room which all come with a balcony with sofa and table (big place as there is also 1 sofa inside the room). Breakfast is included which consist of some thai food and standard western. Reached Chiang Mai airport at around 3plus and we had booked a transfer with the hotel (Baht1,500 one way so if you had 4-5 people to share the cost, it's pretty cheap consider the drive to resort is around 1hr, not sure whether is there any specific car allocated for bigger group, ours was a Mitsubishi Outlander if I am not wrong). Check-in was smooth and fast. Staff explain to us all about the Resort and as it's on the slope of a mountain, a Golf Buggy will send you to anywhere around the resort. We walk most of the time. For the whole of 5nights (4 full days), we only went on 1 full day private tour (Zipline, Water Rafting, Local Market, Feeding Elephant at the Water Rafting start point, Lunch) which cost us Baht5,800 (total for 2pax). As we were there to really REST and RELAX, we didn't even went to the night market although there is Free bus shuttle that fetch you to the Night Market area 2 time (11am and 4pm) there and 2 time (5pm and 10pm) back. Basically we read book, do colouring, swim and do their massage in the resort. Our favourite place to rest is at the balcony area beside the Lobby, there is a big square pavilion with sofa. It had the best view of the mountain and below. Restaurant as well. Location wise, very secluded and good for relaxation. There is only the sound of nature and Cicada insect. You can actually book a cab at the resort to bring you to Elephant Camp, Insect farm, Snake Farm etc which is just along the way to the Resort. Very near. Restaurant wise: We ate most of their Thai dish in their one and only restaurant. And not to mention, their chef cooked very well. We ate all of our meal in the resort. Cost wise, I think quite reasonable consider inside a resort. Around Baht200 - 300++ for 1 main (thai) course and the portion is quite big (our dinner of 1 soup, 1 fish, 1 vegetable and 1 starter cost us around Baht 1K. We didn't drink any liquor but cost around Baht250 for a glass of brandy I think. Vegetable are all from their organic farm if I am not wrong. Swimming pool wise: there is 2 pool (1.5meter and 0.6meter) and one small Jaccuzi, a bit cold on the water. Beautiful pool wall as they make it like a Waterfall with a lot of tier. You can basically sit on some of the rock and let the water fall onto your back. For Spa, didn't really use the spa, only the massage. The spa is a very big place with meditation cave. Very Beautiful place where you can walk around without the need to purchase a package before you can seat around inside. Big place with a big pond in the middle. Probably the only not good part about the place is that there is a lot of area where they need to clean up. Meditation Cave had quite a few spider web around. Just need a good water jet to spray the place and it will good. I think considering the price per night, I think it's should be place No. 1 in TripAdvisor for Chiang Mai.. Breakfast, Cheap Restaurant, Free Wi-Fi everywhere, Swimming pool, 1st Class Mountain View. Not good part about the resort is a lot of flying insect around but you are in forest. Room no insect. Bring along an insect repellent. They place one inside the room. You can buy one in their souvenir shop.
"Peaceful and relaxation retreat in the lush forests North of Chiang Mai"
Only spent 1 night here, but made full use of the Spa facilities. Staff were extremely helpful and advised on the best options. We arrived in torrential rain, but were welcomed with an umbrella and a buggy to take us up the steep hill to the hotel from the carpark. Check-in was seemless and taken straight to our room (again via buggy) Jacuzzi room was large with great balcony and views over the valley. The Spa was good and the food at dinner was fine. Breakfast was substantial with a good selection and variety to suit most palates. Hotel had mainly Asian guests when we stayed and a mixture of both families and couples. In the morning, while enjoying the view over trhe valley, we were greeted by The GM who was friendly and hospitable in a typically Thai way. Despite the inclement weather, we wandered around the extensive grounds which was relaxing. I would go back to the resort as it is very peaceful which is great if thats what you are looking.
The hotel is a good base for exploring the area around Mae Rim and the mountains outside the city. Staff were gracious, room had a great view, and the restaurant had a good selection of Thai and international cuisine. Would recommend this hotel for tourists who want to get out of the city into clean fresh air and nature.
