"Wow - sensational"
Friendly and helpful staff, sensational views, regal facilities - fit fora king and his queen. Everything is pure luxury. The pool looked great. Our only regret Is that we didn't stay for longer. Highly recommend for couples and families.
"Great staff, but infrastructure past its prime"
Just stayed here for a couple nights for a short getaway. We've wanted to come here for a while, as we've seen it up on the hill while staying at a nearby resort. It's fairly expensive, so expectations were high. THE GOOD: -Staff/Service is top notch -Food is above average, including breakfast -Beautiful grounds and views THE BAD: -The villa we stayed was well past needing to be renovated. Had an old musty smell which they tried to cover up buy heating lemongrass oil. This created an incredibly pungent and headache-inducing odor which took hours to air out. By the time it was gone the musty/moldy smell was a relief. -No screens on the windows and doors. This means you have to choose between letting mosquitoes into the villa (and there are plenty of them waiting to come in) and being cooped up inside with the mustiness. Fantastic cool weather up there on the hill, so really a shame to not get to enjoy it more while in the room. -Old-fashioned lighting system in which everything was controlled from a box next to the bed. When you turned out the lights, it shut off all the power. This meant no sockets for charging, and no overhead fan. They did eventually get an electrician to semi-fix this for us, but it meant sitting around with workers in our room for a couple hours. -Mediocre cleanliness. In the shower you could see how far the maids could reach up the tiles to clear--above that there was spotting of mold all about. Looking into nooks and behind things revealed large nests of dust. -Decrepit and abandoned parts of the grounds. Much like with the room, it looked like many of the areas had been left to the elements to rot. The games/activites in the 'fun' area were all aged, worn and rusted. Down by the pool and meditation cave there was an old hot tub shuttered with all sorts of fallen debris piling up on it. The sauna looked non-functional and like it hadn't been used in years. I could go on. ----- Overall it's a nice place for the reasons listed above, and the staff really do aim to please. The mediocrity is on the owners, I'm afraid. They want to continue charging top dollar (baht), but don't want to keep the place up to date. At some point rooms need renovating, especially when you're trying to project such an image of quality. At a lower price point I might return, but with the direction things seem to be going, I doubt it'll every happen.
Currently staying here for a couple of nights in a steam villa. Overall experience has been positive. Nice big room with plenty of in room amenities and a decent shower and good AC; wifi throughout the resort. Room and resort as a whole both kept well cleaned but are showing some signs of wear and tear. Hotel restaurant has great selection for breakfast; the lunch and dinner menu has a good selection and food quality is brilliant, slightly more expensive than eating locally but reasonable for hotel standards. All staff very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there have been some negatives to the stay. Firstly the pool bar is shut, ok it is low season but on checking in we were told the standard rooms are fully booked... There was a phone which allowed a call to be placed for food/drink order but this didn't work as there was no dialling tone. The gym area is in need of some slight improvement, all equipment is pretty dirty with what appears to be sweat stains. There's no towels or water available. I tried to use the treadmill which is unfortunately faulty, it kept resetting itself on trying to start. The hotel is off the beaten track so transport would definitely be advisable, hire cars are very cheap from Chiang Mai airport. If you're looking for a major chill out this would suit you well, views are pretty good of the local hills/valley.
"Beautiful resort, great hospitality"
My husband and I booked Panviman for 2 nights as a treat during our 1 week visit to Chiang Mai. The hotel is located 1 hr from Chiang Mai city and a taxi to the hotel is approx 1000 baht. The rooms are very well priced for such an amazing resort. We booked a deluxe valley room and checked in without fuss. Unfortunately my husband was sick with fever for our entire stay so we didn't venture out of the hotel at all. The hotel is undergoing renovations and construction of additional rooms so there was a quite a bit of noise during the day near the deluxe valley rooms. Normally we wouldn't have minded this as we would have been out of the room during the day but since my husband was unwell he was trying to rest. We asked the front desk if there was a quieter room they could shift us to so that he could sleep. The manager (Mr Juntasing) called back a few minutes later to advise us we could move to a jacuzzi villa instead! They arrived promptly and moved us and all our bags to the new room. The jacuzzi villa was AMAZING- large, spacious with a beautiful jacuzzi overlooking the forest. It was so serene- my husband got lots of sleep whilst I got to enjoy the jacuzzi. The food was also amazing. We are vegetarians and at breakfast they made vegetarian noodles especially for us. Apart from that they had all the usual- eggs, pancakes, waffles, cereals and thai dishes too. The staff at the restaurant were very attentive. Lots of vegetarian options for dinner too. The staff at the resort were lovely, always smiling and very friendly. It's a wonderful resort- definitely a luxury feel for a fantastic price. Once the renovations are complete, it will be even more amazing. We definitely hope to return one day!
"Most beautiful, relaxed true gem hotel"
Me and my partner booked this hotel for 4 nights and we did the most stupid mistake - we booked it to a previous month and we only realized it upon arriving - the kind owner of the hotel gave us a night for free and made us feel better about starting our vacation. Besides this matter - the location is beautiful , every small deatile of the hotel is well thought of ,breakfast pretty basic for the healthy eater like me - would love some more fruits with my granola but everyone can find something to eat especially if you fancy eggs in the morning and the views are incredible - you can rent a motorbike from the hotel didn't have any problem with it and just go explore, there's a waterfall really near and tons of other attractions like elephant camps etc ,rafting , Tigers etc.. We took a private driver we met for one day to do all the things we wanted but you can easily do it on your own aswell , plus they have a free shuttle to chaing mai night bazar so it's very convenient to be away from the hustle but still have the option to visit chaing mai city. Totally worth it !
