"Paradise in Chiang Mai"
Panviman was probably the best hotel and resort experience i've ever had. When we originally looked at it on trip advisor what really sold us was that the review pictures looked as good as the professional ones and i'll say they definitely live up to it. To start off.... I have to say above the resort being amazing the staff there is even more amazingly friendly. Everyone takes some time to say hello to you in the morning and the hilarious resort Manager makes sure to meet all of the visitors and find out where they're from and just be friendly with everyone. Also if i didn't mention previously he's hilarious and he was sweet enough to make sure he saw us before we left our last day and give us a gift to send us off. The people that work here just go out of their way to make sure you're having a good time, we had an appointment to have a tour to the elephant camp that we were going to miss and the resort driver called the tour van and rendezvoused with him at an alternate location so we wouldn't miss out on our experience, like i said, great people. We also had our laundry done and they folded it into the most intricate patterns and hung our clothes in the closet. Then there's everyone else in the front desk and restaurant , they would make phone calls and book tours for us and smile the entire time as we annoyingly spoke too quickly in english as we forgot that english is not the primary language there haha. They do speak very excellent english but we just had to keep in mind we just had to slow it down sometimes. We also elected to extend our stay a few days due to some concerns about traveling to southern thailand during our stay and they didn't jack up the prices on us, the extra days they made sure to try to keep the pricing inline with what we booked online previously. As for accommodations.. The room was beautiful and had everything you could absolutely ask for. Wifi was free and fast most days and stable as well. We had our own private spa in our room so that was awesome in the evenings after our day tours around town. There was construction going on at the property but we didn't really get much noise from it. The room was always extremely clean and he air conditioner was strong and nice and cold. The bed was comfy as far as i'm concerned but it is on the firmer side of things. Our favorite part was waiting for our daily sesame cracker delivery from a sweet little lady every evening. Four bottles of complimentary water are provided on a daily basis. Lastly they leave a complimentary bottle of citronella spray in your room to keep those pesky mosquitos away when you're outside, trust me you'll definitely use it. As for getting outside the resort... This place is pretty remote, but that's the charm of it. Since it's far though you will have to do a little planning on where you're going during the days. If you're going into the city the resort offers two complimentary daily shuttles into downtown Chiang Mai ( takes about an hour ) , one in the morning and one in the afternoon into the city and then for pickup they have one in the afternoon around 5PM and another at 10PM i believe. Outside of going to downtown there's a small transport fee to different spots that i found very reasonable. Something to note is that if you're taking a tour from most places they're used to picking up people from downtown, so they'll compromise with you and pick you up from the Tiger Kingdom or somewhere similar. Transport to the Tiger Kingdom is about 800 baht from the resort and about 30 minutes away. As i mentioned, plan accordingly and keep a couple of the resort business cards on you with the address and phone number available if you don't have an internet connection handy. As for the property in itself... it's an adventure first getting there and exploring. The first thing you'll see is a gorgeous view of the lobby overlooking the side of the mountain and over to the pool area on one side and down into the massage spa section of the property. It has literally the best view from a bathroom i've ever seen. You probably already know from the rest of the reviews, it has an outdoor gym and a few outdoor activity areas as well, the gym was immaculately maintained, the pool table and stuff a little less so but it didn't seem like anyone used them much anyhow. There's also something called health road that has funny pictures of excercises and outdoor exercise machines or monkey bars and things along that vein to use. Anyhow, overall fun property. Cost... if you're expecting to pay dirt cheap rates like some other parts of Thailand or even other resorts, this isn't exactly the place for you. if you compare it to US prices this is still extremely reasonable and even cheap, if you compare it to the rest of Chiang Mai it's on the higher end, so set your expectations but understand you're getting better everything here. As for my absolute favorite part.... the epic breakfast every day. Breakfast is by far the best meal there in my opinion, they put out an amazing spread everyday that has a mix of both western and thai food. I didn't touch the western food, i can get that at home, but the thai food always had a congee, noodle dish, rice dish, sausages, different pastries, and some sort of bun or shu mai available. Then also fresh fruit, yogurt, salad, assortment of juices and drinks. if none of that tickles you right, you can just get a made to order omelette. needless to say we left pretty full every morning and probably needed to be rolled into the resort transport on the way to our expeditions every morning. Summary... great place, great people, would recommend to all my friends and family visiting Chiang Mai
An absolutely beautiful place in the mountains. It is about an hour from Chiang Mai but there is a free taxi service run by the hotel twice each day so this is not a problem. The staff were absolutely wonderful and couldn't do enough to help. We ate in the restaurant several times and the food and service was impressive. The rooms are, as is the entire complex, clean and well-maintained. The swimming pools were fantastic with stunning views down the hillside. The manager was out in the lobby each morning to speak to visitors and make sure that everything was running smoothly. There was building work at the hotel it they moved our too so we couldn't hear the noise and gave us a free evening meal as way of apology for the inconvenience. We expected a lot from the hotel given the reviews but they far exceeded our expectations. We felt as if we were in paradise and would definitely love to visit again!
"Another trip to Chiangmai"
We chose a different hotel this time to avoid the old city crowd. This hotel deserves its stars ranking in terms of room size, friendly staff & other facilities. I would however appreciate more if they can move us to another room for avoidance of noise from construction site next to our room. I would come back again if their spa and massage charges are not three times more compared to the old city average and more frequent shuttle bus schedule.
We had 2 nights at Panviman but would have loved to stay longer. It is like entering a world on its own. Total relaxation . The grounds are extensive and beautifully maintained. There are paths meandering around the resort and water falls running everywhere. The lobby area is breathtaking. The room was a little tired but it was very large with a beautiful bath and big terrace. The breakfast is amazing. In fact all the food was great and not overly expensive. And then there is the spa. That is a little pricey but well worth the money. It is fantastic. All staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We hope to return. Oh and the pool!! Brilliant !!
"Aging resort with unparalleled views and garden property"
Overall, the Panviman Resort is a very lovely resort in the far up mountains of Mae Rim, Chiang Mai. We stayed three nights in August with a family of four. Our first room (in the main building) was not good. The air conditioner did not work properly - we reported it and the technician was unable to fix it. (It's hot in Northern Thailand in late summer/early spring.) Then, that evening the electricity to our room failed. A technician came up, fixed it and then it failed again a second time about an hour later. We were not pleased to say the least and moved rooms. To be fair to the management, they did discount our room based on the situation and took care of us. Our second room was much nicer with everything working properly. The views from the balcony were stunning. The rooms are very dated - definitely in need of a modernization. However, they are still comfortable and the bathrooms spacious and spa-like with overhead "rainshower" and deep soak tub. The grounds of the Panviman are stunning and highly manicured with walking routes all over the property. The spa occupies the bottom of the resorts and leads up to the pool area and main lobby. The pool area is incredible with multiple infinity swimming pools layered up the hill. This is one of the most amazing resort pools that I've seen anywhere. Provided you are not looking for a true international five-star experience, the Panviman is an excellent option. I would recommend it for families and couples. We would stay there again.
