"A mixed bag"
Whilst the hotel is beatiful and very grand, there are a few shortcomings. First of all, there is very little character, it reminded us a giant Turkish all-inclusive. But some areas, especially around the pool, and a deck next to reception are picturesque. Secondly, the rooms. The first room (in the main block) we were given had paper-thin walls, but to the credit of the hotel, we were moved quickly to a more appropriate location. Thirdly, the service. The hotel is spread over a high hill, and would be difficult to walk around even if you are fit. I had a problem with my foot, so we had to call their golf buggy to move around. It would take ages to arrive, and they failed to turn up once - despite several calls to reception, so I had to limp up the hill for about half an hour. Another sign of poor organisation is that one night they failed to explain to people where shuttle picks people up - we ended making circles around the town to find those lost people. Overall, beautiful and quiet location, but the level of service doesn't justify the price they charge.
"Could have been a 5"
From the first time we arrived - I really wanted to love this place.... and I bid but not without disappointments. The good... the main complex, the location and the staff = amazing. 5 star standard. The bad... the rooms, what an anticlimax. Going on passed reviews our room wasn't as dirty as others but it was ok...parts of the toilet had been over looked for some time but generally, ok. it looked like it had a coat of paint recently but still looked dated... if it was a 3 to 4 star I would have been very happy but if you are going to charge 5 star prices - it's just not good enough. And little things too like the wifi was Bearley usable (lucky if it would load bbc's homepage), the kitchen sink tap not work and the TV missing channels... along with the room not being ready when you arrive after 2pm... just little details but again... if you are going to charge for a premium service; that is what your customers will expect. But like many before me... everything other than the room was amazing; the staff and managers - faultless! Would I come a again' Not for the money I paid. But if you do come... there isn't any little shops to buy snacks or anything here and the mini bar is pricey. So you might want to stop off at a 7-11 before coming (especially if you got kids); but I hope enjoy your stay and I will look forward to reading your review :)
"Nice one! (But a bit noisy during this renovation period)"
I reserved for a "High mountain room" in the building area, found out that the renovate site nearby was quite noisy (8.30-5.00 construction time). The room floor is made of real wood so it make noise in some step you walk and you can hear the people upstairs walk as well. But if you reserve for a villa, not the building, should be fine. However, I like this hotel! Thinking about revisit after the renovation finish. Because it's quite far from other hotel, feel like living in the private hill, enjoy my afternoon time reading books at the balcony. One other thing that I like is the good service! The waiter is so nice and caring. And breakfast is good.
"Mixed feelings "
Positive is the breakfast is good, the surrounding is beautiful and the staff is very caring trying to fix everything even the communication is sometimes difficult because of lack of English. The pool area is very nice as well it was just too cold to use it when we where there in Jan. I was disappointed with the rooms we booked a normal room and when we get in it was not properly cleaned, we asked for an alternative and got an upgrade in a bigger room which was cleaner and OK but located in the main building and extremely noisy. You could hear everything from the neighbors top and next door plus there was a construction site next to the room which is only till 5pm but hinders you to make a nap. After one night we complained about the noisiness and the Manager arranged another move in a Villa which was indeed much calmer. The whole resort is missing a little bit of soul. A joke is the SPA we gave it a look being prepared to spend some money for treatments but the prices are so of the chart minimum double that of an excellent SPA (not normal massage place) in town that we did not go there. I also did not feel that many people had been there and the place looked very empty. In summary if you choose Panviman book a Villa the other rooms are not worth it but than if you look at the normal price of a Villa I think you have much better options for that price in this area. All in all I would not go there again
"Beautiful and relaxing resort !"
Love this beautiful resort. The architecture and decor reflects the thai culture so wonderfully. Great pool and unique gym. Great for a relaxing vacation. Hotel manager Charlie was wonderful, going around talking to guests, making us feel so at home ! Highly recommended if you are in Chiangmai. During our stay in late Dec, we could also see a cloud of mist early in the morning just about sunrise.
