"Great rooms and location"
We had 2 rooms on the 20th floor - one on each side of the building. One side overlooked the Moscone Center and you could see a bit of the bay, too. The other looked out onto other parts of downtown. The rooms were large enough and the beds comfortable. The location is great as it's a short walk to the BART/Metro and also less than a half mile from Westfield San Francisco Centre. Like all hotels in SF, it isn't cheap, but it's certainly not outrageous and it is a really nice place to stay. about .2 miles from Target, a movie complex, etc.
During our recent stay in San Francisco we stayed at the Park Central Hotel and we were so impressed by this hotel, so impressed that this would be our choice of hotel the next time we visit San Francisco. As we hadn't been to San Francisco before I was trying to work whether our family of four should stay in the Fishermans Wharf area or the Financial District and we were really happy that we chose the Financial District area as the location ended up by being awesome and the Fishermans Wharf area, personally would have been too "touristy" for us. Staying at the Park Central Hotel allows you to be so close to such great amenities. We were able to easily walk to China Town, Little Italy, Lombard Street, and Fishermans Wharf (only do this if you don't mind bit of a walk) and we were very close to the Westfield Shopping Center and high end shopping, if this is what you feel like doing. There were lots of great restaurants nearby and as we like running we were able to easily and quickly run down to the harbor and bay bridge area. We caught the BART train to the hotel from the airport when we arrived ($40 for the four of us one way), which personally we wouldn't recommend, one of the worse train systems we have come across in all our travels around the world, it really needs an upgrade, and as we travelled with a large suitcase and hand luggage, it was an extremely awkward train ride. I know a lot of people are impressed with BART but we were not!! Leaving for the airport, however, the hotel doorman recommended one of the black limousines always parked at the front of the hotel, and this for us was so much better. It cost $50 from the hotel to the airport (plus we tipped the driver), it was about a 25 minute drive from the hotel to the airport. We dealt with Daniel the concierge once, to get some travel advice out to the Napa Valley, and his customer service was really excellent and he was so helpful to deal with. We absolutely LOVED the breakfast on the go offered in the main foyer of the hotel from Monday to Friday. The quality of food was very good and the prices ranged from about $3 to $8 per item. We tried the fruit, breakfast quiches and muffins and they all tasted lovely. The two ladies running this area were so nice to deal with too. The only thing that I would say was negative about the Park Central was the fact we were paying the $34.50 resort fee per day for high speed internet, gym access and bottled water, but when it came to wanting to use the business center to print out our return air fares we were going to be charged an additional $7.50 per 15 minutes for this service and I felt that this was a bit "rich" and should have been included in our resort fee. But this would not be enough to stop us from staying here again. And finally we had a premier room on floor 28 and the rooms were lovely, quiet and well appointed for our families needs. For two adults and two teenagers we had a 2 x queen bed room which was completely adequate. The day to day house cleaning was of an exceptional standard. Overall our stay at the Park Central Hotel was a really wonderful experience which added to our whole San Francisco trip!!
"A+ for the hotel, D- for the fees"
I booked this hotel last-minute, mostly because I needed to extend a business trip for one more night (and I'm a Starwood member and needed the points). Especially for the price of the room, I was thrilled with the experience. The rooms had a stunning view, with floor to ceiling windows, in a quiet corner of the floor. The bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were clean, there was a proper desk for working, and the view was terrific! (Did I mention the view from the 26th floor') The wi-fi was reliable and strong, and although I don't normally love a buffet breakfast, this one has a fairly large selection to cover all your bases and dietary needs. A couple of things to note... (1) The front desk staff will try to put you on the lowest floor possible. When I inquired as to whether the 6th floor would be noisy, he moved me to the 26th. So, obviously there was room - you just need to ask. (2) There is construction next door, and despite being 26 floors up, I could EVERY.SINGLE.HAMMER. I don't know whether you hear it on the other side of the floor, but the noise seemed to reverberate off of the other buildings in this crowded section of downtown. (3) Breakfast is expensive. I didn't know if there was another option (I didn't really have time to explore), but the breakfast buffet will cost you. I'm used to NYC prices, but even I was surprised. (4) The fees! I understand that all city-based hotels have tourism taxes and the like, but the extra $30 fee for services I didn't use' That's just mean. No apologies when I asked about it on my bill, either. Be forewarned. Generally speaking, this is a nice hotel in a good part of town. And if you can get a decent price on the room, you won't be frustrated by the exorbitant cost for parking, for eating, and for not using the services covered in the fees.
