"Our Anniversary "
Very disappointed!!! The location is alright but the staff is cold and they make you feel like we are burdening them. We asked the front desk to make us reservation for Dim Sum and he gave me the number and told me to call myself and then said I don't like Chinese food. He was more interested in going back to his web searching. Young man with shaved sides of his head at check in. They DO NOT offer room service. That is unheard of at a four star hotel for $300+ a night. Not a good idea. The housekeeping was very nice but the beds are hard and itchy. This should be a 2 star hotel and within that price range.
So I guess I'll start with the bad... The first two staff members we encountered were very abrasive and rude. It was obvious they were under duress from the hotel being booked solid, so I wrote it off. Decor is very corporate, and the windows were covered in gunk on the outside. Check in wasn't available until right at three, which was also to be expected. At first, a generally rocky experience, but it got much better after. When we came back after 3, we were greeted by Sara who more than made up for the previously rude staff members taking care of all our needs. Anything we ordered like champagne glasses, were there in under 10 minutes. Location was almost perfect, right below market st and next to yerba buena gardens, and the outdoor garden area next to Maso is a cool place to chill. View from the room was insane and the hotel checked our bags for free until our flight the next day.
"Old Westin That Needs A Facelift"
I stayed here a few years ago when it was a Westin. Still has a great, central location, right off Market Street, and near to the Convention Center and Union Square. Very professional and helpful front desk staff. My room had a king bed, which needs replaced, and two small arm chairs, plus a work desk. Very small and Spartan bathroom. You have to close the door to use the toilet – and the toilet seat is oddly circular and small! Great views over neighboring park and convention center. Free refrigerator was offered without asking was a nice plus. Fast Wi-Fi – free as a Starwood Gold member but otherwise surcharge – ouch! I did not park a car but relied on Uber, considering parking in San Francisco is obscenely expensive. There is a Whole Foods market about a 10 minute brisk walk away. Overall, an average stay – I hope the new management updates the hard and soft goods.
This hotel is well located in SoMa, adjacent to many museums and a few blocks from Union Square but far enough to be removed from the shopping crowds. Ask for an upper floor — the views of the city are really stunning.
This place has been a great surprise. The staff and property are really awesome. The rooms are spacious and quiet. The views are great for the most part too. They have a special activity or food every evening in the lobby for the guests. The fitness room located on the fourth floor is one of the better ones of any hotel I have stayed at. There is plenty of treadmills and other aerobic equipment. They have a water machine and cold towels in a refrigerator for cooling down. Although, one of the days this was empty and not replenished. The weights and other equipment is also in great shape and plenty of it. The one drawback here is the restaurant does not have a real breakfast so there are plenty of places close by within walking distance. The wi-fi here is fast and free too. The bed is extremely comfortable and cozy. The environmental system seems to be very good also. I would highly recommend staying here if in fact you are in the area. It really is close to most anything you would want to do.
