"Great atmosphere, excellent service...."
Stayed here recently for a long weekend. Fantastic location, close enough for walking into the old town or taking one of the many tram line that stop right next to the hotel. The city's main museums are just around the corner, and canal boat cruises start from directly across the road from the hotel's main entrance. The hotel is modern and relaxed, with the most welcoming, friendly and helpful staff I have come across in a long time. Other than a little grumble about the far too soft to be comfortable bed, it was the perfect city stay.
"Lovely stay "
Perfect hotel and perfect stay. We were here for 3 nights and everything went incredibly smoothly. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, even when we had an issue checking out, the receptionist was very professional and helpful. Rooms were great, lovely beds and showers- very modern fit. We were here over valentines and they gave guests valentines suggestions of things to do in the city and heart shaped lollipops! Simple touches but are very thoughtful. Would definitely recommend.
"Could be perfect.."
I stayed at the Park Hotel as a surprise for my partners birthday February 14th-17th. First impressions were great, the location was easy to get to, reception very smart, and the room was adequately sized, stylish and modern and the bedding was ridiculously comfortable. However a few small things let the hotel down which without these I would have rated the full 5 stars.... Firstly I had mentioned in my booking comments that this was a birthday present and so a nice room would be great - we arrived to the room to find the bed covered in Balloons with a birthday banner which was a lovely touch and was a great start and I cant fault them on that at all. However a few negatives as follows: 1. Every time we entered the room from being out there was an unpleasant smell of damp which we had to open the windows to air out, this is probably because of the open plan bathroom with no extractor fans, wasn't so bad and left after a few minutes but again just a shame that something as simple as ventilation hasn't been considered with the style of room/bathroom chosen. 2. The complementary tea and coffee facilities don't include milk - as an Englishman I was quite gutted to have no milk after pouring my cup of tea on the first morning. 3. WARNING HIDDEN ROOM SERVICE CHARGES - After forgetting to buy milk for above problem whilst out I decided the next morning I would either pop out to a local coffee stop or order tea to the room so that my OH could wake up on his birthday to a nice cup of tea, having checked the room service menu I saw that pots of tea were 4.25Euro's each, quite expensive but given this was his birthday I thought id go for this being slightly more convenient. Ordered, it came, not so much 2 pots of tea as boiling water, 2 sets of tea bags and a pot of milk, bar the milk I had the rest already in the room and could have made myself. The total bill for 2 pots of water with milk and tea bags was 12Euro, when I questioned this I was told there was a 3.50euro charge for using room service, I checked both the menu and the hotel guide and nothing is mentioned of this charge, nor was it mentioned when ordering. Had I known I would have been paying so much for so little I would have got dressed and gone to a local café to get tea to take away. 5. The hairdryer in the room was broken which I discovered day 2 of my stay, when I turned it on it smoked and smelt of burning so reported this on my way out the hotel, instead of an apology I was asked why I didn't report this earlier which I found fairly rude, not the end of the world, it did mean I had to wait ages for my hair to towel dry before I could style it with straighteners so inconvenient. 6. Do Not Disturb clearly means something different to this hotel. Our first full say we put the DND on as we do not feel the room needs to be cleaned daily, we came back to a pile of new towels and a letter advising they noted our DND and so hadn't made up the room but needed to enter for 'Security reasons' this made me very uncomfortable that they had entered with no real explanation against our wishes. The other days we chose to have the room cleaned but on our last day with checkout at 12 midday we had a knock and a member of staff entered at 9:30 to 'check' we were checking out that day, again, why was this necessary' As I say, just little things that without which would have been a perfect hotel. Tips: 1. Pre-book Anne Frank as soon as you have your dates confirmed, we only found out when we arrived that they only accept online tickets between 9-3:30pm by which point all the days were fully sold out and when we turned up at 2:30 the length of the queue was to the canal and down to the bridge which we were told was approx. 2.5 hours waiting time, we decided to make better use of our time which was a disappointment so would urge anyone who wants to see this to book your tickets online as long in advance as you can (I think they open up 2 months before the dates). 2. Using the trams to get around will save your feet and your time, especially if using an app such as Citymapper which will tell you which trams you need and where to change/how many stops. The only difficulty is finding the kiosks. On our last day we annoyingly discovered there was a kiosk on the stops when you turn left out the main entrance of the hotel and first left again. We ended up using the GVB website and locating a post office selling 24 hour tickets. Central station also sells them but its getting there in the first place. 3. Breakfast would have cost us an extra 30-40 euros per night had we gone with this option through our hotel site (booking.com) or buying at the hotel an extra 23+ per person. Whilst slightly less convenient we chose to eat breakfast outside the hotel for around 25euros together. 4. In case you are confused by the hotel photos, the bathroom is open plan to the bedroom in the standard doubles - but - the toilet is in its own slightly claustrophobic cubicle so not in the open for you to share everything with your partner! 5. I highly recommend a little hidden attraction in the red light district called 'Our Lord in the attic' if you love hearing interesting stories about Amsterdam's history this is a must see - a hidden gem!
"Issue with room resolved extremely quickly"
On the first night we had an issue with the bed from a previous traveller, however, within 10 minutes of calling reception we were in a freshly made room and refunded the first night's cost. The hotel offered to investigate the issue and also had our washing dry cleaned free of charge. The hotel is ideally located and close to bars, a casino and boat cruises, and the 1,2 and 5 tram are a short walk away to go into central Amsterdam - handy for cheap travelling to and from the airport. The breakfast in the hotel itself is extremely pricey and only continental, so would recommend heading across the canal instead, but apart from that the service and atmosphere are great.
"Fantastic February city break!"
Stayed for a mid-week city break in February. Excellent location - 2-3 minutes walk from the Rijksmuseum/ Vondelpark. 5 minutes to the "I Amsterdam" sign. Opposite Hard Rock Cafe/ Canal rides - close to lots of bars/ shops/ restaurants. Staff: Really friendly and helpful - service in The "Living Room" area at night was great. Hotel: Bag drop facility is very handy so you can explore the city until your room is available - lovely artwork around the building, room service menu was great. One downside of our room (Queen Room), was there wasn't a separate bathroom - just a net curtain separating the sections of the room and due to the design of the shower - it can create additional surface water in the toilet/ sink area - not a major problem but has to be carefully planned if the room is being shared! The shower is very powerful and room was cleaned daily to a good standard. Don't fall into the breakfast trap - very expensive (20pp) and plenty of cheaper alternatives within a few minutes walk! Would recommend and can't wait to revisit!!
