"Great customer service in the middle of the night"
- Do I still have a chance to get something to eat' - Kitchen closes at 10pm... bar at 11pm... it's 1am. I'm sorry... - Oh shoot. Is there any place open close-by' - The only thing, McDonald's, 10 minutes walk, I'm afraid. You better take a taxi to Rudolfplatz, there's a delicious Italian place open till 4am. - Too much hassle... Need to leave early in the morning... Do you have an apple or something' - Let me see what I can do. And BAM - she comes with the copious plate in the picture. Park Inn Cologne. They know how to make friends. Or, at least the dark-red-haired lady at the reception knows. And that hungry people are the easiest and most grateful friends to make.
Hotel is out of city centre but short taxi brings you there fairly quickly. Conference was within the hotel: meeting venue and facilities were standard fair for large multinational chain. Everything was crisp, clean and worked.
The Park Inn sits on Innere Kanalstrasse, which is a good 35 minutes walk to the Dom, Hauptbahnhof and old town - but transport connections are pretty good and swift. The hotel overlooks parkland and in particular, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial park. It is a large, modern and classy-looking hotel with spas, restaurant and conference facilities. Rooms are elegant without being luxurious and they are very clean and well-maintained. I had breakfast once during my stay - decent choice of food and very well marshalled by an efficient team, who had a pleasant rapport with customers. I arrived at 12:30 but was told that there was no possibility of getting to my room earlier than 3:pm / 4:pm - hate this. I could not get the promised "free" wifi. Typical large hotel group policies geared to sell-up and charge customers more once they are in the door - hate this too.
"Great receptionist, huge restaurant and they have bath tube"
I am very glad staying in this hotel. From the first time I come, the receptionist is very friendly with warm greetings. The check in process is also fast. We book 5 rooms and I only need to show the booking voucher to the receptionist. Some hotels ask me to send it or give it hard copy. Ppfffff. They have bath tube in the room and Big bed. It's quite big for 1 person. For breakfast, they have many variety foods and beverages in huge restaurant. The staffs are also friendly even though not every staff can talk English (especially a cook or chef). They provide "fresh or live kitchen" in the center of the restaurant.
Pleasant and friendly staff. Room was fine. Out of town, but a half mile stroll gets you to restaurants and shops with a good variety of options. Conference was within the hotel complex and facilities were good for that aspect too.
