"Nice stay. UNTIL..."
Me and my girlfriend stayed here for 3 nights. Upon arrival we spoke to reception who kindly greeted us and give us all the information needed. We was advised to purchase a tram ticket each for €17 and then escorted us to the building next door. The room was a good size from our opinion, modern decor, safe and temperature control, large bed but single covers' (Found that strange) The bathroom was clean, towels and toiletries all provided. Our sleep was sometimes interrupted due to being situated next to the elevator which was in use quite often but that didn't really put our mood down. The breakfast in the morning was good, served from 7-10am. A wide selection of contemporary and cooked breakfast (buffet style) which I was hoping for and at £19 each, you should expect. I have to point out the bread was very fresh. They don't have English breakfast tea but the male assistant did offer other types and kindly remembered my request a day after which was recognised by us both. Going back slightly, the tram ticket is a must. After a 2 min walk we arrived at the tram stop and 3-4 stops you are in Leidseplein where there are various types of restaurants and bars and a great atmosphere, a few more stops and you can arrive in dam central. We enjoyed the fact that we could relish in a busy part of Amsterdam and then jump on the tram back to a quiet part of the city at the park plaza. We did everything we wanted to do within the 3 day stay in Amsterdam and thoroughly enjoyed the break. UNTIL... Checking out in the morning to be told that our payment was still outstanding, after telling the member of staff that the booking was already paid for we were then told that this has happened to customers before at this hotel. This had not been told to us by the blonde female checking us into the hotel who took a payment of £44.79 for tourism tax, she was also recognised on duty at the time of our check out but decided to stay in the back and refused to help. The manager on duty at that time was also present and after showing him an email confirmation that our booking through Hotels.com was all guaranteed and paid for as well as a statement to show the amount of £462.34 coming out of my bank account on 31st August the manager did not seem phased and continued to tell us that the amount was still due and would be taken from the card given upon our check in. The manager on duty was slightly rude, gave off smirks and showed no professionalism without any reassurance to get the problem resolved and we basically had to leave in the knowledge that the hotel would be taking another payment from us! Reasonable conclusion: Nice hotel with a great location if you don't mind taking the tram for 5-10 minutes I would advise to take all receipts with you and be wary about handing over card details they instantly have control over. This really upset our stay and our journey home with the worry of paying an extra £462.34
"The worst and dirtiest hotel in Amsterdam."
Some authority should overhaul the star-rating of the hotel! I had a terrible experience in this hotel. 4 stars for such quality should be given just in some 3rd world countries. I've never seen a dirtier moquette, even the dirtiest mat in front of any hovel is cleaner, I am not exaggerating, see the pictures, just for luck of the readers is impossible to smell the stink. In the bathroom there was black mold between the tiles and the ventilation didn't work. The furniture is old, the windows are not able to stop either the cold or the noise from outside. A bedside table was broken and fixed with a raw board of wood. The noise from the hallways and the elevator reached without problems each corner of the room. Bates Motel and Fawlty Towers are luxurious accomodations related to this hotel. I wasn't expecting such disappointing experience in a 4 star rated hotel, with 4 star prices. A suggestion for the future: if you have rooms like nr.427 which you know that doesn't deserve more than half star, sell them for the actual value of an hostel room. For the price we paid it was extortion, a fraud, a theft. Obviously on booking.com our room was not showed between the nice pictures of the renovated rooms, the position alone is not worth those prices. Last but not least, despite the value of the furnitures and having already paid the stay at the check-in the reception asks you a deposit of 50€.
We stayed in two hotels during our visit to Amsterdam. The first one was selected to be closer to the action and this one was chosen to be near the house of my sister. Location is in the residential part of Oud Zuid, it is good for a quiet stay (a five to eight minute walk to the museums, and right beside Vondelpark). Stayed in a Business Suite, which provided generous space. The staff was warm and friendly, but The daily cleaning would benefit from improvement. Recommend breakfast in neighborhood cafes rather than the hotel restaurant.
"Pink!!!! and close to the Olympics stadium "
Bright and pink. Park plaza is like a second home in which ever country I am in. No different in Amsterdam. Warm friendly staff great amenities and comfortable stay! Was close to Olympic stadium could walk up for our marathon in 15 mins. Friendly on pocket.
Hotel was clean and room was ok. Location wasn't great for us wanting to visit lots of attractions as had to get tram but for the price we paid we wouldn't have expected the attractions to be on our doorstep. Just a little bit further out than we expected. Staff were friendly on reception. Average hotel can't really say much more!
