The hotel overall was ok but I think I drew the short straw, my room was very small and cramped and my bed not much bigger than a single. My colleague however had a lovely room (same price) so think it is just pot luck. My room number was 401.
"Our visit to Amsterdam"
We visited Amsterdam in June 2015 for 3 days stay at the Hotel Park Plaza, at valerispein. The hotel is located bit away from Central Station, but is very reachable by tram No. 2 in very convenient way. The hotel stay was good, the staff was very cooperative and ready to provide assistance, and information for the sightseeing. Breakfast spread was sumptuous. We were happy to select this hotel.
This hotel is in a fantastic location. The tram stop is just down the street. The neighborhood is quiet and walking distance to Voldelpark. Hotel staff was very helpful and the bar was social. I appreciate the fun decor throughout the hotel, and the bathroom appears to have been recently remodeled. My only thought keeping this from being a perfect score was the room furniture needs some love and attention.
"A bit worn hotel trying to look fresh"
Stayed for two nights at this hotel in a executive room. My expectations were probably a bit high after reading the room descriptions. The "spacious seating area" is just a chair. The views of the surroundings of the Vondelpark/residential area is just view of the streets or nearby neighbours. The room was pretty big though. The bathroom looked pretty new, but was a bit moldy in the corners. There were glass doors between the bathroom and the rest of the room. I see more and more hotels with this. I really don't see the point. Staying here with a friend would be really awkward. Luckily I was alone. I really don't need to see what my roommate is doing in the bathroom.... I always have high expectations for the breakfast. This one was OK. nothing special. Nothing extra. Reading that it served "delicious international buffet", I expected more... There was quite a bit of noise from the trams rolling past quite frequently. I'm used to traffic, but this was to much noise for me to have the window open at night. With windows (and the extra noise reduction window) closed, there was no problem. Bed was good. Carpets on the floor are not good. Wooden floors are so much cleaner. The staff was very kind and helpful in every way. I thought this hotel was located a bit to far from the city center. You have to take the tram. I would rather stay at a more central hotel next time in Amsterdam. Will I reccommend it to others, or go back my self another time. Probably not. Not because it is so very bad... just because I think there are better options in this price range.
Not only do you get hit with a 50 euro deposit when you check in.. You don't even get it all back as you get taxed on it. Which they failed to mention until you check out. If you want to speak to any management you are not allowed or they are no where to be seen. The rooms are a lot smaller than they look in the pictures kept stubbing our toes on the end of the bed where it was so close to the wall. (This I was very disappointed with but because I was in Amsterdam for the city not the hotel I let slide) the room stunk of smoke though it's a no smoking hotel. The cleaners enter your room even with a do not disturb sign on and them they steal from you. I've had my £200 reading glasses stolen from my room and when I asked them to go check the cleaners they said they couldn't because they are outhouse cleaners so basically I will never see them again. Not even a sorry. Entering our room when we asked them not to and taking our things. Worst hotel. I wouldn't waste my time going there Again I'd go to a different one. Absolute scam.
