"Great for a weekend trip to Amsterdam"
Hotel looked disappointing from outside but was lovely inside was just what we needed for a group off 4 girls visiting the city. Was in a lovely part of amsterdam although not central, we paid 15 euros for a taxi into the centre which was fine divided by the 4 of us. Has a Tv in the room which has international channels. Breakfast was great and runs till noon so no early mornings needed. Only fault was staff checking in took ages, rooms weren't together was not told checkout, breakfast times etc, had to ask everything myself, but have been told thats just a cultural thing as they are very laidback.
"VALUE FOR MONEY IN AMSTERDAM"
The Hotel is located about 20 minutes walk to the Riejks Musuem in a neighborhood which was very quiet at night. There were restaurants near the hotel at 5-10 minute walk away. I had a very pleasant stay at the Park Plaza Vondelpark due to the fact that i paid the extra 20 Euro's for the upgraded rooms. When i was checked in and was shown the standard room i was fairly dissapointed until i was being shown the upgraded suits on the third floor which were luxurious and spacious, in particular the corner suite with the balcony on the third floor, which is surrounded by 180 degrees facing the street and a comfortable balcony. The bathrooms were clean and provided the usual amenities such as shampoo, soap and toothbrush. Considering the average price of the room of the hotel, i would rate this a 4 star and a STEAL for anyone looking to stay in a clean safe environment on a budget.
"Cheap but dated, ugly, smelly rooms."
I feel the hotel should be honest about the rooms available.. as the pictures posted on trip advisor / bookers were not representitive of the rooms. The first room we got put in had a musty smell and was reminiscent of a 70's care home, it had a welcome note on the table.. but addressed to other people, there were also food items. So we were unsure if our room had been cleaned or not. We complained and lugged our 3 suitcases back down to reception.. We were moved room we were put in a attic room, again with no help to carry our suitcases.. despite this room being in another building down only accessible by going down stairs and up in a lift. The room had black mould around the windows. It was really damp and had an awful smell of rotting sewers like cabbage and eggs, which we presumed came up through the drains in the shower as it was worst in the bathroom. I say bathroom, but it was infact glass paneling inside the bedroom.. no walls between the two which was kind of awkward as there was no privacy at all. I was sharing with a close friend so I wasn't too bothered. However if i had been with my boyfriend I wouldn't of been too happy! The double bed was also two twins beds pushed together. The furniture was mis-matched and the pink and orange carpet was stained and very tacky. The hotel lobby and restaurant were newly decorated but the rest of the hotel not so much. We quickly found a no-smoking room sign.. which we asked reception about. They told us that it was a no smoking hotel, however online we booked a smoking room. So we were unsure this was even an option when booking' If we had known that we most probably would not have chosen to stay there. Staff seemed to change daily at reception so there was no sense of familiarity. The hotel is quite far from the city centre but the tram service is good. The bed was comfy, however our bedding was not changed. We didn't bother with breakfast as it was expensive for what it was.
"Park plaza Vondel"
Lovely location in a quiet residential area, beside Vondel Park and 10/15 min walk to the Museum Plein. Nice bar and breakfast area. Currently there is some disruption to the out of city bound no 2 tram route but it has relocated to a nearby parallel street, if you didn't know the area it could and did confuse some people. I've stayed here a number of times over the past years and the décor is starting to tire a little. Needs a fresh coat of paint !
"Excellent and great value for money"
Well I'm still here at the hotel and i thought for once i would write my review before i left. Firstly my wife and i got this booking through a groupon at £89 each which included the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam. And then a coach to the city. The cabin on board was definatley cramped but we didnt mind as the on board entertainment was brilliant. The food was good but i think overpriced and on our return will only be getting breakfast which is excellent. The instructions for directions to the hotel are at best useless, so be advised to get proper instructions as super-breaks directions are a no go. Eventually when we arrived the lobby was full of people booking in and it did take a little time but the staff are friendly and helpfull. Our room is great, not big but ideal for two people, clean, fresh bedding, plenty of pillows, hanging space and a clean large shower. We are in the old part of the building , the decor is tired but so what, it's only for sleeping here, as the night is full on. The bar(important) was empty when we arrived back from the city, again the barman was very friendly and helpfull and soon other people arrived for a chat, all round it was comfortable and pleasant. Breakfast is a little expensive but we filled up to set us up for the day. If like us your going back to the ferry, we have been told it's ok to leave the luggage in the hotel Park plaza in the city for free as we have stayed in one of their hotels, this saves the journey back here from the city centre. It's important to remmember to get a tram ticket when you arrive in the city, €12 for 48 hrs use which starts when you first scan in on the tram. The trams here are excellent and run so frequent you barley have to wait for the next one. All in all a great cheap weekend getaway. The people here in Amsterdam are out of this world when it comes to friendliness the city is fantastic and TBH you need to be here longer than just a few days to take it in....
