"Beware of the pre authorised payments..."
Stayed at the hotel this weekend with 5 other friends. The hotel is right next to Vondelpark which is one of my favourite places in Amsterdam. The hotel its self was alright. The reception area looked nice and everything was clean. The bar area was also nice with a small but cosy terrace where we had a few beers. However, i booked 3 rooms for 6 people in total. Upon arriving at Park Plaza we were informed there would be a 50euro deposit per room. Which is fine. We paid the 50e each then went about our holiday. On the Sunday we paid our bill and checked out. Then one of my bank cards was declined but i thought nothing of it. This morning i had to contact my bank who informed me Park Plaza had pre authorised £520 to my card before we even left the UK. They then failed to inform me of this upon arrival and let me proceed to pay ANOTHER deposit and pay my share of the rooms. So all in all 2 days in Park Plaza has costed me £740!! Apparently the 520 will be back in my account in 7 days. So only stay here if you have a spare £500 you dont need for a week.
The Park Plaza in Amsterdam provides an excellent location with good accommodations, service, and breakfast for the traveller on a moderate budget. It's hard to go wrong with this hotel. I would certainly stay here again.
"terrible hotel and no sign of a change"
It was a very unpleasant stay at park plaza. It is an old building and need a lot of maintenance, the room I was in had old furniture, the doors are old, elevator also. You can see everywhere bad doors, bad paint, not clean floors or walls ... Rare professional among the staff, most are new and not able to assist you properly. Very noisy also, the doors slaps very hard and make a big noise. Even though they slap hard, you need to be careful and check always if the door of your room is closed properly after you. The service is really bad, you have to wait a long time at the bar to have someone serve you, and sometime you have to go to the reception to ask to have someone serve you, if you find someone at the reception to ask. The elevator has problems, you will be waiting for it, when it comes you hear the door trying to open then it leaves. I asked the reception many times what is going on, first they come and tell you all is ok, like if they are not aware that the elevator has this problem. Then when you ask them to wait and see it themselves they tell you to go take it from another level, which turns out to be the same. The WiFi is very bad, mostly bad signal, very very slow most of the time, you barely can do WhatsApp. I will never be back again and I do not recommend it since from the staff ways of handling things, it seems a mentality of running the hotel that is there to stay.
"Hurrah Room 6; Avoid the rest"
I wish I could write two reviews for this hotel. We were first given a room that was so dim and lacking in light, we couldn't see anything unless lying in bed under 2 small reading lights or sitting by the TV. We asked to move. We were given another room with slightly more light, which allowed us a closer look. Like all the rooms in the annex building, it was redone in a trendy modern design a few years ago, apparently by someone who had never been a hotel guest himself. The bathroom had no towel rail, not even hooks. It had an open "wet" shower so much of the floor gets drenched. The light switch for the bathroom was on a distant wall. The wall of the bathroom was opaque glass, which provided less than shadowy privacy for dealing with one's most intimate affairs. It also meant that if one partner needed the facilities in the middle of the night, the bedroom was flooded with light. Enough! TripAdvisor rating: Terrible. After one night we asked to move again. Thankfully, a room opened up on the ground floor of the 4-floor annex, where the rooms are slightly more conventional. Imagine, a towel rack! A light switch immediately outside the bathroom door! A closed shower cabinet, and even a separate bathtub! Two wing chairs, and plenty of reading light! TripAdvisor rating: Very Good. Yet room 6 was classified the same as the rejected rooms 45 and 26 as an "executive double," presumably with the same price. The management was accommodating when we complained, for which we were grateful. I don't know what the rooms in the main building are like, but this hotel needs to rethink its design with more consideration for the hotel guest than for the interior decorator.
"Good choice out of downtown"
I found this hotel good. The room is not too spacious but it is functional. I didn't like the toilet in the same space of the shower because the floor gets wet and when your need to use the toilet after a shower this is not comfortable. However this is minor, it is not a big issue. The breakfast was good with many choices. The hotel is located in from of Vondelpark which is nice, and there is a tram stop very near. The distance to downtown is good. If you like to walk, you can walk just 30min and you are very close to downtown. Staff was nice and helped with everything that was necessary.
