"Very good breakfast"
The hotel was pretty expensive but quite centrally located. The lobby was a strange combination of a reception desk and bar with a pool table in the middle of everything and loud music even at daytime. Not a very well functioning idea at all. The clerk at the reception forgot to tell us what time breakfast would be served, and we couldn't find that information anywhere in our room or the elevator either. Our room had an original look and was quite charming. We had a peaceful room, just as we had requested. The breakfast was a very nice surprise. We have travelled in England a lot and are usually very disappointed with English breakfasts, but this was one of the best we have experienced in Britain.
had a lovely weekend, hotel had a good relaxed atmosphere but service was still very good. staff were very helpful and pleasant. had a meal on one of the nights which was good and the waitress service was excellent. car parking was limited but was ok value for money, think space may have been tight during the week. location was very good easy walking distance to centre.
We stayed at the Pentahotel during our recent trip to Birmingham to visit the Christmas Market. The hotel was well located and close enough to the market for us to walk. The hotel is a bit different with the reception being located at the bar on the ground floor. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We ate in the hotel on our first night and the food was plentiful, of decent quality and at a reasonable price. We also chose to have our breakfast in the hotel and although this was on the pricey side (£15 per person), the quality and quantity were excellent, so worth trying (the breakfast room was busy). There us also an upstairs lounge, away from the bar area, that hotel residents can use for a drink and to relax. This has a pool table with a funky baize. As usual, given the city location the car parking is limited but there are various car parks nearby that can be used (check the prices as some are very expensive). Overall a decent place to stay for a city centre visit
"Weekend get away from london"
Short weekend trip with my boyfriend. Lots to do in the location we were in(perfect walking distance) As for the hotel, very welcoming and great hospitality. Decor was lovely especially the rooms very modern. Only thing is we booked a double room. The space was ok but could have been a little bigger including the bed. Bathroom was gorgeous and clean. Would defo book again for a bigger room if the price is appealing.
"Informal but not inferior"
Visited Birmingham for Christmas market and other shopping with my partner so wanted a hotel close to New Street railway station & the Bullring Centre. Pentahotel fitted the bill, ten minutes stroll away, and is also close to theatres (Hippodrome, New Alexandria & O2Academy) as well as the Mailbox shopping centre. Admittedly you have to use some rather run down and smelly underpasses which may intimidate someone on their own but personally I did not feel threatened. If you travel by car I believe there is very limited parking space , at a price reflecting the City centre location, or you can use a nearby NCP one. The hotel itself , although not an especially high building, is easily spotted by the large flags bearing its name which are visible from some distance away. You enter premises into an area which includes a bar (normal hotel prices - slightly higher than city centre) which has a free pool table ( also another free table on first floor lounge area). The check in reception area is at the far end of the bar. All the staff are informally dressed but are friendly & efficient and a free ironing board & iron was sent up to our room on request. The rooms are clean with free large screen TV and free Wifi is available in all hotel locations (password is your room no. and surname). Rooms are furnished with double or twin beds, a desk, chair and stool but storage space is limited to one cupboard and frame for hanging clothes (no actual wardrobe). As we were only staying 2 nights this was not a problem for us but a week long stay or need to store "formal" clothes may raise issues. The bed has a fairly firm mattress but this is just right for my own personal taste and I slept very well. The bathroom has to make best use of a fairly limited space so has a walk in style shower (piping hot water) w.c and wash basin. Toiletries are provided every day as are limited supplies of tea & coffee (I presume more would be supplied if asked for). The only real issue is that our bathroom door (room 512) did not close fully as it looked like water had "lifted" the floor under the door. Breakfast an be either included in the room price or paid for as an extra and is available in the 1st floor restaurant area between 06.30hrs - 10.00hrs. Although not especially cheap I would thoroughly recommend it as the choice was exceptional. It was a self service buffet including a wide selection of cereals, usual cooked ingredients, continental style meats, cheeses , breads and pastries. There was also smoked salmon and Bucks Fizz available. On our second night we also decided to eat in the hotel and the food matched the quality of the breakfast and our starter, main course and drinks came in at a fairly reasonable price. The decor at Pentahotel could be described as "quirky" and may not suit all tastes but this adds to its character (see photos of toilets in restaurant area (which incidentally were spotless). Pentahotel certainly met my four main requirements of good location, cleanliness, friendly & efficient staff and good food so I would not hesitate to recommend it.
