very chilled out comfortable boutique hotel with great service. Breakfast buffet included in price was a big plus and the location is a short walk to night market food and shopping and is walkable to get into the old town (although maybe not in the heat). Pool was very relaxing as were the other common areas. I would come again! Something to note - this is not a hotel for young kids, the pool is deep and not suited for children who are not excellent swimmers.
This is the second time we have stayed at the Ping Nakara and hopefully there will be more occasions in the future. As others have said the service from all of the staff is faultless, the rooms and facilities are excellent and it's really is a lovely hotel in which you can just relax and unwind. Couldn't recommend it more highly.
We LOVED this hotel. First of all, lesser rooms is better. It's very quiet yet so close to activities! The location is excellent - walking distance to the night bazaar and restaurants. The hotel staff are lovely and welcoming. Housekeeping is to a very high standard. Snacks and water are topped up daily in the room and turn down occurs every night. We were provided a bottle of Prosecco to celebrate our honeymoon. The pool area is stunning and we found the sun loungers comfortable. There is a mosquito problem but that is ever present in Thailand - just put on your repellent and get over it. The breakfast is lovely, I had the best french toast and waffles I've ever had. The coffee is decent (by Australian standards). The food later in the day (we had lunch) was good quality. The air conditioning is freezing and very effective, it doesn't take long to cool down a room. The only critique I have are some of the other guests - we were a couple in our late 20s and we found a number of middle aged women were unable to look at us without disdain - I have absolutely no idea why, but this is not a hotel you would choose to party and I would not recommend staying with children here. It isn't chid friendly, there are no kids activities here and frankly I think loud children would disturb the vibe as it's such a small hotel. If you have quiet kids or teenagers, go for it.
"Did not want to leave.. exceptional service"
My wife and I had the perfect 4 night stay at Ping Nakara. We had a large room with balcony which was small but serviceable. The room was very nicely appointed, the overhead shower was best we had in Thailand or Cambodia so far. Our only minor complaint was that the room could have used one brighter light along with the smaller lights provided. The breakfasts were delicious and we used the pick-up service in the vintage Mercedes which was fun but also triple the cost of a taxi. We enjoyed lounging by the pool after our day tours though did find the lounge chairs were not the most comfortable. But in late afternoon the mosquitoes start coming back out so we would not have lasted long anyways. But what set distinguishes Ping Nakara is the top-notch service the staff provides. Without being pretentious they make every guest feel welcome from the moment they arrive and special the entire time they are there. This applies to every member of the staff we encountered but an extra special thanks to Nui who helped us each evening with dinner plans, arranging rides etc.. Truly exceptional customer service. We like to explore new places when we travel so not sure when we will be in Chiang Mai again but when we are we will book here without a moment's hesitation. I hope many other TA users/readers do the same.
"Outstanding oasis in Chiang Mai"
Our experience at Ping Nakara was outstanding. It is a small boutique hotel in a lovely older colonial style building with lots of charm. It is well located within walking distance of lots in the city. Our room (3rd floor overlooking the pool area) was lovely, adorned with everything you would expect from a luxury property. The common areas are quite charming, from the air-conditioned bar and library area for some quiet sitting, to the lovely outside sitting area next to the pool for a drink in snacks during their happy hour (2 for 1) each evening. The restaurant was excellent, with a broad area of breakfast choices and an excellent menu for lunch and dinner. We found the food to be very tasty. The service from the staff was truly wonderful from top to bottom. We also tried the spa which is luxurious in decor and provides excellent massages (which are pricier of course that what you can get elsewhere but so convenient). Perhaps what surprised us the most was how quiet and tranquil the hotel was. Though on a busy street in a busy city, both the common areas and our room were so quiet and peaceful. There is no doubt why this hotel has received such top ratings on trip advisor - they are very well earned.
