"Good, not great"
Nice place, but I wouldn't say it was exceptional. It's definitely a ways away from most of the action, which can be good or bad depending on your preference. While it wasn't too much of a hassle to get to most of the attractions in the city, it would have been nice to be in walking distance to things. Since it was very hot when we were there, walking wasn't really a good option, especially during the day when the sun was out. The biggest negative about the hotel itself was the wi-fi. It basically didn't work at all in our (2nd floor) room as their routers all seemed to be in public areas. The food was good, and the drinks were a very pleasant surprise.
"Colonial style boutique hotel"
Everything. It was lovely. Beautiful building and the staff were excellent. Colonial style boutique hotel with eye for detail Nice rooms where you immediately feel at home. Nice oldtimer Mercedes and bicycle tuk-tuk complementary for short drop offs, really great fun. Very friendly and caring staff.
"Beautiful Boutique Hotel Just Outside of City Center"
We stayed at the Ping Nakara for part of our honeymoon. First off, being picked up by their vintage Mercedes was an so easy and a great starting off experience. The pick-up went very smoothly. The hotel itself is about 10 minutes walk from the night markets in the city center, which we enjoyed. It was nice being close, but not right in the middle of everything when we were trying to have some down time. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. We stayed on the 3rd floor (304) which faced the pool and had a beautiful balcony. The food was great- we had dinner there once and breakfast each morning. Very speedy service and great food! We used their spa for massages and were great!! One small issue is the wifi is not great- but works for checking emails. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at the Ping Nakara and would highly recommend this hotel!
"Lovely little place"
The thing that drew us to the Ping Nakara (apart from the charming name) is the look of the building - the old colonial style drew us in. When we got the hotel, and indeed throughout our stay, we were very pleased with the level of customer service. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help out. For example, the man on the 'excursions' desk was happy to call our tour provider to find out where they were after they were late, even though we had not booked through him. A very nice touch was that there were free refreshments in the room - a choice of savoury and sweet snacks, and soft drinks. I think this is a fantastic touch - it must cost the hotel less than a dollar a day per room on average, but it made such a big difference to me. I really don't know why other hotels don't do this. We also got a little gift when we left - a couple of elephant statuettes for holding pens and business cards. There was a free DVD rental service from the front desk with a big selection of movies. The breakfast at the restaurant was very tasty every day, with a good choice of western and Thai food. The swimming pool is a bit on the cold side - we visited Thailand in November, so it was pretty hot generally, but the pool is fairly shaded so it doesn't have the sun hitting it so much. Our room layout was a bit weird - the front door opened into the bathroom, which you had to go through to get to the bedroom. The toilet and shower also opened off the bathroom, but the toilet and shower shared one sliding door, a bit strange! No problem though really. The front door to the rooms open off outside (covered) walkways, rather than internal corridors. I'd say the room and hotel wasn't as luxurious as you'd get in an 'international' 5-star hotel, like the Shangri-La down the road, but you do pay a little less at the Ping Nakara, and it's a much more personal, friendly, feel-at-home service.
"Beautiful quiet romantic get away"
Such a beautiful place! Lovely staff who went out of their way to offer a shower in the spa when we had already checked out and came back to get our bags after a day with elephants. Colonial decor--white with dark wood and a terrific pool. I would definitely recommend their delicious breakfast..made to order waffles!
