"Very nice little place...."
This is a small place near the university area. There are a couple of restaurants nearby and the old town area is walk-able. (Though a mostly uphill walk after dinner!) The room was small-ish but OK. The platform style bed was set very low to the floor which was uncomfortable to get into and out of, but slept well. The bath was shower only. The lighting was strange, but served the purpose. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the continental breakfast was fine. All in all, this was a good find and a reasonable price.
"Rip off prices for fairly standard accommodation in Zurich"
I stayed on for two extra days after a conference which had booked us in the hotel. I had queried in advance about the price, and was quoted 215 CHF and I thought this would be the total I would be paying. It was only on leaving that I realised I had overlooked a piece of information that was stating that the price was for a single night. I ended up paying 435 CHF for two nights. This is about $440 US or €400. In any other city in Europe (including London and Paris) I could stay at the same level hotel for four nights. I felt the price was a rip off, even though I was not deceived. Of course I paid my bill, but I would not like to return to Zurich and most certainly would be happier to book a hotel of this quality which would allow me a stay of four days for the same price:)
Stayed at the hotel during Swiss visit. Clean and small. Efficient by Swiss standards. Front desk people were great. Good location and good price for Zurich hotels. The hotel has a small bar serving good food and drinks. All room accessories worked with out a problem.
We found this place on Hotels Tonight, just needed a quick one night stay in Zurich and with everything being really expensive, we were happy to have found this place. It's about a ten minute walk from the train station, also on the tram line, but even though it was up on the hill, it was a nice walk through campus. Check in was friendly and easy and even though the room was smallish, it was perfect for our short stay. The bed was more like a futon, close to the floor, but still comfortable. Breakfast was included and there was a nice variety of fruit, juices, cheeses, meats, and breads. I would stay here again.
"Idiosyncratic hotel, great location"
The Plattenhof is located in quiet street - just a few tram stops from either Bellevue square and the lake. It's a small independent hotel with very friendly and attentive staff. Some of the rooms are large and luxurious with contemporary furnishings. These represent a really good value in Zurich. Other rooms, however, are smaller and less luxurious, with low futon-style beds and somewhat worn furniture. While all rooms are clean, some of them could definitely use a new coat of paint and some re-touches. In terms of rooms, it's a bit of a hit and miss at this hotel - it's a shame they've put off the necessary ameliorations as the hotel is full of potential. Rooms have DVD players with a selection of films to choose from, as well as small tablets computers. Internet is very fast. Breakfast is good featuring a few regional specialties. A great place to stay if you manage to get one of the good rooms.
