"Don't trust the room safe"
I've used trip advisor many times to select hotels, book flights and read reviews, however I have never written a review until now. I'm not blaming the hotel because I'm sure this can happen at any hotel. I stayed at this hotel from nov 21 to 25. During my stay, my wallet was either in my pocket or in the room safe. While on the beach on nov 24 I started receiving text and email alerts of potential fraudulent charges on multiple credit cards. When I returned to my room my card keys would not open the room door so I had to go back to the front desk to have them reset. When I got into the room, the safe was open. Nothing was missing, but obviously all of my credit and debit card information had been copied. Fortunately my banks caught and stopped all the fraudulent transactions, but none the less, I had to cancel all the cards. My only conclusion is that someone on the hotel staff with access to my room compromised all my cards. Moral of the story is the only thing hotel room safes are good for is placing all your valuables in one place were criminals can easily find them.
Just in the beach line in Ipanema, close to Leblon the hotel has a great location and amazing views. It isn't for sure the most luxurious hotel you can get in Rio, but is a nice spot, with very kind staff, a very good breakfast and nice, average rooms. Is a safe bet for a quite stay in a great location in Ipanema!
"Great views, average hotel"
The views from the pool area are stupendous. The location is great - you can walk to all the best restaurants. The hotel is average at best otherwise. 1. The room is very average decor-wise. Almost hospital-like. 2. My safe did not work upon check in. It took them hours to resolve. My time is precious and this should have been checked prior to check in. 3. The beach service was unacceptable. He couldn't even bother to get up to set up my chair and towel. I had to get it myself! He was too busy hanging out with his friends on the beach. Wow. 4. There was no service at all by the pool. Again, wow. 5. this is no the fault of the hotel - but the Denmark house for the Olympics was right on the hotel's beach - blocking the view. They were tearing it down, and the noise was loud the whole stay. The hotel did not warn of this prior to arrival, and did nothing to compensate me for the very large inconvenience. How about a free breakfast or drink' 6. the crowd on the beach in front of this hotel is rough. I would recommend choosing another hotel for this reason alone. The hotel does nothing to address this issue. 7. during my stay, the rooftop bar was closed for events every night. Again, the hotel chose to not compensate me for my inconvenience. 8. there is no concierge. Only a check in guy, who can answer your questions if you have any. All these points make the difference between an average hotel and a 5 star hotel. This hotel is 3 stars - at best. The only selling point is the view from the pool. There are very, very limited options of exceptional hotels in Rio. The Fasano and Copacabana Palace, in my opinion are the only options. They are expensive, but worth it. If your budget can not stretch for those two options, know that the Praia hotel has stupendous views, but don't expect much more.
"Praia Ipanema "
I fully recommend this hotel for the best location, value for money and friendly staff. I had a great experience over there. The roof top swimming pool was cozy and with beautiful views. Everything was positive. Definitely I will go back.
The hotel is very well located, between Leblon and Ipanema beaches. The rooms are spacious and clean. The bathrooms however, should be renovated. The rooftop view is amazing, but the pool located there is quite small. There are not enough sun loungers for the guests (If I'm not wrong, there are 6 of them and 2 sofas). Breakfast is quite good. It's worth staying there, specially if you get a discount rate.
