"5th time still as amazing as the first..."
There is something just so magical about "la isla" and PA that we just can't get enough of. Small, clean, amazing ceviche and drinks. The pools are perfect. The beach is killer with palapas and a few couch beds. Incredible staff...shout out to Jaime! The rooms aren't hotel rooms (except the standard room..upgrade please) they are huge and gorgeous. We rented a golf cart almost every day...we met a couple this time from Germany and joined forces. Too much fun riding around, snorkeling, eating, drinking. 6th time here we come...after Holbox though :)
"Amazing 2nd stay"
Our second stay at PA certainly exceeded any expectations we had even after staying here previously. Once again, we were treated as being welcomed home upon arrival. Cecelia at the Front Desk is always on top of her game. The food at Sabor and the Beach Club range from good to very good. The Beach Club changed their menu midway through our stay and I was a little pressed to find something that I liked. Not that anything was bad, just not to my taste. Satay was decent as well. I'm not a big fan of Thai or Sushi, but the meal was very good. Service at all locations is outstanding. We really enjoy Ricardo no matter where he is working. He is a very nice man and always helpful with our learning the language. There are many others as well, who are always doing a great job. Our room was clean and comfortable. Although the mini bar was not restocked every day, it was not really a big deal. I phoned and they were there within minutes. After reading some of the negative reviews, I really have to question the expectations of some of the guests. Although PA, is not perfect for everyone, it has been perfect for us on both of our stays. I cannot wait to return again soon.
"5 Stars' Are you kidding' "
We paid around 560 euros for two nights. Expecting as promised a five star resort. This hotel was the biggest disappointment on our Mexico trip. We tried to ignore some of the not so good experiences and that was a mistake. An huge mistake. The reception: you don't feel welcomed, during our checkin we have been interrupted five times by incoming calls to the reception. For god sake, let someone else get the phone! It was unfriendly impolite and if I was CEO I would sent the staff back to training. The room: noisy, the window can't be closed, it needs immediate maintenance. The room wasn't partially clean, considering that we could check in by 3 AM what did u do the whole time unsteadily cleaning it properly' We had no electricity for several hours in the evening''' Are u kidding' This is a five star resort''' No excuse by the hotel they just let it happen to the guests. The bathroom: I just attach a picture of the disgusting bathtub. I spare my words and let obscenity and dirt do the talking. This is the first time I am really angry about a hotel I stayed in. Don't go here. Please. To anyone from the management of privilege Aluxes: this is impertinence taking 280 euros per night. Please book yourself a room at a ecohotel called almaplena on the east coast of mexico to see how it's done correctly and what the real meaning of hosting guests is. Shame on you. I am so angry I would like to give zero stars.
"Another great stay!"
This was our second stay at Privilege Aluxes. We weren’t sure what to expect: would our second stay be as nice as the first one or not' And the answer is that it was every bit as nice! We can see why there are so many repeat visitors to Privilege Aluxes. Our first stay was in November 2015 and we returned January 2017. A few changes had taken place since that last visit. Updates were made to the pool bar and the outdoor bar at Sabor. Adjacent to the pool bar is a snack bar with a small seating area where you can get tacos, chicken wings, and hamburgers. At the outdoor bar by Sabor there were updates made to the seating area. The renovations that were in progress inside Sabor on our first visit were completed and it looks open, fresh, and spacious. We did the all-inclusive and had all our meals there. The selections at the dinner buffet were well presented and varied each night. As with all buffets, items are hit or miss depending on your personal tastes. We definitely did not go hungry. Breakfast also had a nice assortment of selections and my husband was happy to see Lorena was still there making omelets. The service was top-notch and Hugo, Hediberto, Eliel, and Yalloy took good care of us. The Cafe del Mar is now the Privilege Beach Club. The lunch selections were the same as in 2015: great shrimp tacos, ceviches, etc. Good beach service too! Misrael, Raul, Omar took good care of us. The dinner menu didn’t seem as interesting as it was when it was the Cafe del Mar and because of that we had a hard time choosing what to eat. While the food was prepared well, one suggestion I have for management is to try to offer more local Mexican dishes for dinner. The biggest change we noticed was in the beach itself. The northern and northwest sections of the island are all sand and these sands have shifted due to the currents and winds. Considerable beach erosion has taken place by Chi-chi and Charlie’s and they have lost their beachfront. The beachfront by the Nautibeach Condos and the Ixchel Hotel has has shrunk by about 30 feet. However, the beachfront in front of the Privilege Aluxes has grown, so the beach is much wider there now but has lost some of its swimming area. The buoys that mark the swimming area have not been moved back to compensate. There’s a new sand bar forming to the right of the Privilege Aluxes where the water is abour 2.5 to 3 ft deep and people were using that area for wading. If you want to get into a swimming area where the water is deeper you need head toward the left side of the beach. It did feel strange to be walking through an area of the beach where the water had been over my head back in 2015. But, that’s nature! We stayed in a Suite Deluxe again. Balcony furniture had been updated and the sliding glass door was new. The Suite Deluxe is spacious and like the rest of the rooms, is decorated in a minimalist style. While there are plenty of storage options, they are not practical. It would be nice to have had a dresser to unpack things into. But, that’s pretty minor. Overall, our stay was pleasant and we definitely have another repeat visit coming up in the near future. We love this place for its laid back atmosphere. We also love the fact that no towel game in played at the beach or at the pool. It makes for a most relaxing stay!
"Would not stay here again"
The positives of this resort are significantly outweighed by the negatives. The positives first: HUGE rooms, really nice, very luxurious. Excellent breakfast buffet. Negatives: Our minibar was never restocked, even though they are supposed to be restocked each morning. The staff seemed to really dislike the guests. The guests were really obnoxious - loud, drunk, swearing at each other. I was surprised by some of the things I saw. If you get all-inclusive (I do not recommend), it does NOT include wine with meals -- you have to purchase separately. Food other than breakfast buffet wasn't that good. If you go all-inclusive, you can't have "prime" reservations for dinner, just 6pm or 9pm. If you are coming all the way to Isla Mujeres, stay somewhere else. Go budget and spend your money on all the great restaurants at Isla, or go higher-end luxury to find a place that will serve you wine with your meals and restock your minibar.
