After taking a shuttle and ferry, we arrived on the beautiful Isla Mujeres. We were greeted with a nice drink and were able to check in early. Our room was beautiful, nice a big, the honeymoon suite. We wanted a higher floor, for a better view and we were told the manager was off and we would be put on a list.we never heard back The beach was really relaxing ,drinks served to your chair. Valentines Day was great , the entire beach was decorated beautiful, roses given to the guest, dinner on the beach and a band. Alex cleaned our room and left wonderful towel displays and did a really nice job. Annabelle was also very helpful when we were trying to make arrangements for our shuttle back. I left my beach bag in Sabor ( the buffet ) restaurant and I got it back with everything inside...money IPad etc. I was very grateful. The restaurants are very good. Sabor for breakfast, the omelettes are delicious. Satay has delicious Asian fusion. Our favorite was the Beach Club for lunch and dinner. The seafood dinner for 2 was amazing. It is a great town to walk around. Two blocks away there are restaurants and bars with nightly entertainment. You can rent golf carts to see the Island. We went to Punta Sur and spent a few hours hiking around. The view was beautiful. It's on the other side of the Island
Room was huge, very nice and always perfectly clean. We were on the 3rd floor but I just used the stairs everyday as an opportunity to improve my fitness. These is an elevator as well. It was quiet. We loved the food, especially the shrimp tacos at the beach bar. The buffet was always delicious as well. All the staff was very friendly and helpful. We had "all inclusive" but it felt like we were just staying there as regular guest as they give you a bill after you order at the restaurant and you sign for your meals. The beach was beautiful and we never had a problem getting beach lounges or umbrellas. The pools were very nice and the pool bar was great. It is close to everything, a very short walk from the ferry.
"Second time around was nice, but..."
This was our second trip to this resort 7 years apart. We had such wonderful memories of our group trip we wanted to return and spend a little more time with another couple. This resort is still in really good shape and the rooms are beautiful...here comes the but. I generally avoid complaining about service because it can vary so greatly from person to person day to day. I want to be absolutely clear that every restaurant person during our stay was extremely accommodating and gracious, and the security and beach restaurant personnel were so friendly and helpful! It was the front desk personnel that were so disappointing. On arrival, we were 99% sure Expedia sold this as "oceanfront" and when we asked were told by front desk personnel in a not so friendly way that this was impossible (I'll check into this with Expedia), but regardless, we only asked a question and were not even that worrried about it since we knew we would likely spend so little time in the room. What the front desk personnel did not know is that the couple we were with, who booked the exact same deal on Expedia, flight, hotel, etc. 5 minutes after we booked ours received a completely different room, a 2 story suite on the highest floor with an ocean view and a plunge pool. We decided not to say anything because our room was just fine and had a partial view anyway, but there was a HUGE discrepancy in our rooms for no identifiable reason outside of the fact that we asked. That evening we showered WITH NO HOT WATER for Valentine's dinner on the beach (which was beautiful). I mentioned this to the front desk that evening when we went in to book a golf cart for the next day and was told to ask again in the morning. We learned from other guests this was a problem for them as well, and in addition to it never being corrected, all 3 "hot tubs" on property remained cold the entire trip. One of the recommended ways to see the rest of the island is to rent a golf cart. My advice is to book this ahead of time!! My warning is to not ask for this amenity at the hotel. We were told to be at the front desk at 9am to do this and were the first ones there. After waiting 1 hour, we were told there were none available and had no recommendations for other companies. The next day our in room safe also would not reopen, and were told (by the same front desk staff) that the only person who could help want in yet and to check back later because we would need to wait in our room for him. They couldn't make a note' Last thing. This resort REALLY values their pool/beach towels. There are none available late in the day, and if you don't have the towel they issued you, or the card they give in exchange when you return it, you are out of luck. Seems ridiculous, but just know that going in. This resort is clean, the beach pleasant to look at (though you really can't swim it) and I wouldn't let front desk staff ruin my trip, but from 7 years ago to now things definitely have declined and even though we really had a great trip, I would consider going elsewhere next time.
Pool view on the 3rd floor- great room, attentive and helpful staff. Asian Fusion restaurant, Satay, was top notch in every way. Beautiful sandy beach. Close to North Beach and other restaurants and bars within walking distance. Renting a golf cart for the day is a must if you like hitting all the beach bars on the island. Will be back!
"First time all inclusive and on Isla Mujeres and ready to go back"
My husband and I spent 5 nights at Privilege Aluxes on the all inclusive package. The whole staff was attentive, friendly and ready to go above and beyond. It also helped they spoke better English than we speak Spanish! We are ready to go back tomorrow!
