"Amazing service, very decor driven"
The fire and ice is decorated just as it's name suggests, lots of bling, oversized chairs, dark rooms and red lighting. It's priced like a premium hotel at R2.8k per night excluding breakfast off peak time. The room has just a shower in the room, with a curtain you can pull to close it off for privacy. The base is plastic and the drain is kind of grimy with no grate over it, and for me I need a solid base to feel luxury. The staff are amazing, all happy to help and greeting you when they passed. They accommodated a 12 pm check out, and gave a free gourmet milkshake. I'd go again if it wasn't for the high room rates.
"Nice hotel, but should get pricing right"
This was our second stay here and we do like the place, even with its shortcomings. (Small rooms without adequate space for two large suitcases and no dedicated cupboard space. The mini-fridge in our room was not working and the bed linen too small for the beds). However, the pool area is a fantastic space and the main reason we've booked here again... the need for some last-minute South African sun. The staff were also very friendly. This is a good hotel in a fine area and we enjoyed our stay, but we were amused at the R3,200 charge for one night in a tiny room. Especially when we found that the 5-star African Pride around the corner was charging around R1,000 less. (The rate was allocated via hotels.com so this may have had an impact on the cost.) When I raised this with the hotel reception, they suggested I contact the hotel directly in the future to negotiate the best rate.
"Arty and Trendy"
Excellent location for business travellers. Service levels of Staff at Reception well below par. All other staff proffesional and efficient. Brilliant conference facilities backed with superior customer service... Rooms average +
"Hospitality - level 1 restaurant. Sylvia was my waitress for the evening. She was really good and responded quickly."
Really good service from Sylvia. She was professional and courteous. Well done! I've been at the hotel for almost two weeks and the menu still has a few twists and turns to keep it interesting. Facilities are good...especially the outdoor garden. Rooms can get a bit cramped with low ceilings and lack of natural light.
"Hip hotel with interesting room setup"
I spent a couple of days at this hotel. It is in the Melrose Arch district, which is close to a small shopping mall and restaurants. The rooms are not great if you are sharing with another person because the bathroom is not private. The shower is in the room, and only a shower curtain separated the shower area from the bed. I enjoyed the milkshake and breakfast.
