"Lovely studio but no wifi"
I just got the my hotel apartment in Melbourne and was so pleasantly surprised. Clean and spacious with a tub and washer in the bathroom. The only major down point is that wifi is not included in the price of the room, which to be honest I find a bloody cheek! $50 for 7 days on top of the price of the room really left a bitter taste in the mouth.
"Clean, quiet and great location"
Ended up staying here by taking advantage of Wotif mystery deal. The room was small, but perfect for an overnight stay when most of my time is spent out exploring the city. This hotel is located in a fantastic setting of cafes, stores and bars. Basically walk everywhere. The bathroom was modern as was the room decor. Bed was firm enough a bit small but thats common cause I'm tall. The sheets were tucked in a bit tight too. Hotel was quiet, check in 2pm, check out 10am.
"A good location Apartment with helpful Receptionists "
We booked one bedroom apartment. Location is good as Flinders Station is just around the corner. Coles supermarket is just walking distance 10 mins to Punthill Apartment. There are many cafes around. Staffs are very helpful to us. It does get noisy at night and early morning when the garbage trunks came. We will recommend our friends to stay here during their Melbourne visit.
"HIGH STANDARD AGAIN"
This is our third visit to Punthill Flinders Lane. Location is excellent and within a short walk to just about everything in Melbourne. The hotel is quite modern and the rooms really are excellent value. Loads of restaurants and bars are at your doorstep. There is a kitchenette in the studio room if you want to cook. I really don't know why you would bother though with all the fabulous eateries that Melbourne has to offer. We had a surprise during this visit which involved the fire alarm being activated at 3.44am. It was a full evacuation onto the road in the dead of night in the cold. Fortunately it was a false alarm. It had apparently been activated by a homeless person who was unable to gain access to the locked doors. We were thankful that at least all the alarms worked as they should have and that it was not a real fire. It was still very frightening and we were not able to get back to sleep. I appreciate that this was beyond the control of Punthill but still it was not good. Apart from this one rude awakening our stay was up to the usual high standard and we would nervously stay here again.
Yep, it's a pretty good place. Clean, tidy and quiet - I realise from ready the other reviews that this is not everyone's experience, but it was mine. It is in the heart of things. Good side, there are cafes and restaurants on your doorstep - it is a bit mad as well, but Flinders Station, Federation Square and Art Centre/ Gallery are all within a few minutes walk, so it is easy to get away from the hubbub. My ONE complaint is no Reception after 19.00. Not good. I arrived towards midnight because of delays. The format is to ring an intercom and they give you the code for the key safe. But, they were drilling up the road so could not hear. So, had to exchange numbers, call mobiles, etc. Not what you want from this level of accommodation. Also, my room looked out - about 6 feet away! - on a tall grey wall - when I say 'tall' I mean I had to lie on my back to see the sky to know what the whether was. The decor is all grey and black as well. So, a very sombre tone. However, it was quiet, and I am happy to forgo a nice view for a good night's sleep when this is already difficult because of jet lag. Reception staff - when on - we're friendly and helpful. Laundry facilities as well worked a treat - put it like this, I paid A$5 for a wash/ dry a hotel in the previous week charged me A$80! So, recommended, but you might want to discuss room options in the light of your preferences.
