"Brilliant location, excellent facilities, good price"
We arranged a 3 week trip to Australia through an agent, but because of a problem with the last week's accommodation in Sydney we booked our own. Having stayed at Rendezvous The Rocks ther last time we were here, this was far better in terms of size and facilities. The suite had a large living/dining area, fully fitted kitchen, large bedroom, great bathroom and utility room with washing machine and dryer. Although we didn't have a view of Circular Quay we had a great view of Darling Harbour and the city (there's a great viewing area on the 23rd floor at the leisure suite). The suite was far too big for the two of us but was very welcome. The staff were terrific and the location at the start of The Rocks and near Cirular Quay was ideal. When we return in a few years time we'll certainly stay here again.
"Due for a make over."
Even thou the public areas are looking fresh and up to date, the room we stayed in was very tired and could do with a make over. The view however was to die for. The staff were all very friendly and happy to help. Food wasn't so great, considering the location and with so many restaurant choices at your doorstep you'd think a top quality chef would be a must.
"Better than advertised"
This Hotel is in a great location at The Rocks and has everything the busy traveller could ask for. The views are worth more than the nightly rate and the pool is wonderful. To top it off, the staff make every effort to do the little things so you feel welcome. Great Hotel that deserves more attention. But I'm glad it doesn't get too much...!
"Great rooms, awesome views"
A welcoming and very comfortable place, with large spacious apartments, ideal for groups of people. We had visitors from Europe with us and we were blown away with the rooms, comfort and the views are spectacular! When booking ask for a view, you will not be disappointed!
"Fabulous Views -- Wonderful Location"
Recently stayed at Quay West Suites with a group of 7 friends. The views from our rooms 1304 & 1306 were fabulous. Can't tell you how much we loved starting our morning and ending the evening with a view of the Opera House and Bridge -- it was perfect! These rooms are 2 bedroom suites and are equipped with living room, dining area, kitchen equipped with 2 refrigerators (one that they stock and one that you can stock), dishwasher and microwave. Can't remember if there was a stove. There is a laundry room in the suite with washer/dryer with shelf space and clothesline. The bonus is they provide the detergent! There are 2 full bathrooms (one en-suite) and tons of closets and storage space. The hotel does have a gym. The location of the hotel is excellent. It is completely walk-able to many great restaurants, shopping and attractions. The room did have a few quirky things -- the air conditioning was tough to figure out. The washer/dryer and written instructions -- A PAGE LONG! Part of the issue was the knobs used for both were completely missing the information. For example, the temperature was worn away on the air conditioner. Same thing with washer/dryer -- the information on the knobs were missing because of use. So even with the page of instructions for how to use them you still had to guess cause you could not read the knobs. I did not give this hotel an excellent rating is because I found the staff to be a bit inflexible. They were nice (concierges were much more accommodating than front desk and restaurant staff), but lack that excellent customer service skill that you expect when staying at a place of this caliber. For example, breakfast was included in our rate. We had 2 tours that started early which did not give us enough time to sit and have a proper breakfast (ordering from the menu). We asked is we could just grab coffee and pastries to take with us (both of which were readily available without staff having to do anything. In addition to the menu, there was a breakfast buffet). We didn't expect them to pack a breakfast for us. But the answer was no. They had take-away coffee cups and containers yet they would not allow us to do this! If you're thinking this would have been disruptive -- NO, both occasions were right at the time that they opened and completely empty. One of our group members had already poured a cup of coffee in a take-away cup by the time the manager made the decision that we could not do this and charged us for the coffee! Not my idea of customer service especially when we had already paid for breakfast. The other instance is I had a late flight on checkout day (10 pm). I asked about a late checkout. The first person said no. Not one to be deterred, I asked a different person and was told I could have an hour or I would be charged another day. I was willing to pay for the day (cause I had already looked up the rates), but the hotel person told me the additional day would be twice what I could book on-line. When I pointed this out, he didn't even TRY to work with me. Finally asked someone else who granted me a couple of hours (noon versus 10 am). My other 2 not so great things were the pool -- it's totally enclosed and while there is a sign that says no food, etc., the pool is taken over by kids and not so clean. That being said, if you're not there for the pool, it is completely acceptable. My other reason for the none excellent score is that the toilet seat in the master bedroom had been replaced with a seat that was not meant for that toilet. It was too small. This is a detail that drives me crazy! Just get the proper seat. Again, nothing too detrimental, but shows a lack of excellence. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel even with the minor issues I've described.
