"Best boutique hotel in Funchal"
Lovely hotel surrounded by beautifull gardens. Plenty of space, quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The place never felt crowded, always plenty of sun loungers available. Very good breakfast. It takes 20 minutes to walk to the city center (8 Euro by taxi). Very relaxing stay, I hope I will come back here again!
"An oasis of peace and tranquility"
We stayed 6 nights at end-November in one of the recently refurbished Manor House suites. The accommodation was superb. A large bedroom, large sitting room and very generous bathroom all coming off a large entrance hall way. The furniture and decor were all tastefully done and perfectly fitted the stye of the manor house. We had a very large separate and private terrace overlooking the gardens and the banana plantation and even had a partial view of the sea. The main dining room in the manor house is only open for dinner, but what a dinner!. We ate there a couple of times and regret not doing so more as the food was superb and really not that expensive compared to other high end restaurants. Breakfasts were very good and a wide range of food on offer, and it was still warm enough to sit outside on a couple of mornings. As everyone else has mentioned, the gardens are beautiful and one of the most appealing features (for us as we try to avoid large hotels). If you want to wake up surrounded by beautiful flora and fauna rather than in the middle of a large concrete hotel then you could no no better than stay here. Coming back later in the day to this green garden oasis was just perfect. The sea is a couple of hundred metres away and walking into Funchal took 20 minutes and you can even walk all the way along the coast path to Calamar De Lobos which is 7km and a very pleasant walk. A special mention has to go to the staff at Quinta Da Casa Branca as they are excellent. Helpful, polite and cheerful in a way that really fits the relaxed but stylish feel of the place. The service was excellent irrespective of where you were or what you wanted. If you like small to medium size boutique hotels with a touch of class it would be hard to beat this place. This was our first visit and we are already looking at our reservation for next year. See you again soon!
The hotel is set in 4.5 acres of its own botanical gardens. The garden rooms are set over looking a huge lawn surrounded with exotic plants, all with name plates. The rooms were slightly old fashioned (1980) stile but were immaculately presented and cleaned to a high standard every day. The staff were all very professional but friendly and spoke perfect English. The breakfast was one of the best I have had at any hotel, With an amazing selection of fresh fruit, some of which we had never seen before. The choice of freshly cooked eggs were great to set one up for the day. The main restaurant was excellent but on a par with London prices. The bar in the evening served simple meals that were very good. It is only a 20 minute walk to the centre of Funchal. Down hill going, but we took a taxi to come back as the hill upto the hotel is quite steep! We will be back!
Ideal location, about 25 minutes walk from the centre of Funchal but away from the hustle and bustle of the main 'hotel zone'. Gardens are stunningly beautiful even in late November. A very classy hotel; delightful staff and very good service. Facilities, both in the room and the hotel are excellent. Meals are certainly not cheap but are of a very high quality indeed. One of the best hotels that we have stayed in.
It has all been said before but let's hear it again; this SLH residence is perfect in its location, garden setting, bedrooms, breakfasts and above all the magnificent staff. I've not read many guest reviews remarking on their departure experience so let me tell you about the one always to be remembered by my wife and I. All the reception staff came out from behind their desk, shook our hands and waived as we departed. There was an honesty and delight by everyone at Quinta da Casa Branca that has established this hotel as a firm favourite. I thoroughly recommend you to stay here while in the beautiful island of Madeira.
