We booked via secret escapes and stayed at the Radisson Blu Portman Hotel on 3rd December because we was visiting Winter Wonderland. Check in was easy, we arrived earlier than our check in time but 2 of our 4 rooms were ready - we booked into our other rooms when we returned later on in the evening. The lady who dealt with our check in was polite and informative. We used the bar and the staff again were polite and helpful. Drinks are typical London prices. The rooms are clean and fairly spacious - maybe a little stuffy! The decor could be updated but it didn't spoil the stay. Tea and Coffee facilities, iron, hairdryer, ironing board and all the usual amenities. Breakfast was buffet style, lovely food. Some of the staff were a little rude and slow but other than that a good breakfast experience. Overall we had a pleasant stay and we would stay again.
"Booking not honoured"
Booked and paid for a room via booking.com, non-refundable at good discount to rack rate - which seemed appropriate as location ok but the rooms are basic. A few days before check in I get an email demanding I pay an extra £200!!! Leaving me struggling to find alternative accommodation at very short notice. I have traveled all around the world, stayed extensively in hotels throughout the UK, seen some real holes, but have never had one treat me in this way. Booking.com were very unhelpful also.
Why does it take 20mins to check in' The girl on the desk seemed to be confused and lost in what should be a very straightforward process. She made no attempt to seek help from her colleagues. Very frustrating. When we got to our room, we wanted water and went to the mini-fridge to find one half full bottle. We complained on our way out for the evening, with a request that the water be changed for fresh before we returned. No chance. All in all, a very poor experience.
"Location was great - but same couldn`t be said for hotel"
Too be very honest as we was vising Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, Location was great but for what we paid for the hotel it was a bit of let down! The lobby area / restuarant and reception all looked super swish, however once we got in out room there was a nasty stain on the carpet, a strip of wallpaper torn off, the bed was very low & soft and really not comfortable, but the worst thing for myself was the fact that the toilet was so very low!! I suffer with muscle pain and stiffness and found it very very hard work having a "child height" toilet...If they are all the same, and you struggle I would avoid! I will say, the staff was all helpful. We ate both in the restaurtant and had room service and the food was lovely & well worth the money.
"Reasonable but a bit run down"
Location of hotel and quality of bed were good. However the actual room wasn't like any of the photos it was much older, had black mould in the shower, worn carpets in the room and the heating was broken. TV also switched off every 23 minutes due to a fault. We complained about the heating as it was November and cold and the window was drafty. After 90 minutes and follow up calls we were given a portable electric radiator but maintenance never showed up to look at the heating. Toiletries and teabags weren't replenished which is a relatively small thing but the room was expensive and I'd expected a lot better. I stayed in this hotel 4 years ago and had a much better and more modern room, like the photos, so I think only part of this hotel has been refurbished and there are two very different standards of room. Friday and Saturday nights were disturbed by a low thump of music (from club across the street'). Long queues for breakfast so we ate out.
