"Nice hotel, terrible service"
The hotel is nice, nice pools, quiet location but... It took more than an hour to check-in in a chaotic drama where nobody seemed to know what, how or who to register. After checkin-in was finally finished we had to wait for almost two hours until the rooms were ready and we finally could begin our stay. The personnel was almost inexistent so for instance breakfast was a constant wait for the few of them to bring cups or glasses so you could drink a coffee or juice, tables where left uncleaned so guests had to make themselves space in order to be able to seat and eat. One day the main bar by the pool was closed because there was just one poor employee to serve and he was affected to another bar by the beach, without tables, so guests had to go to back and forth to that bar in order to be served and have a table. The towels stand by the pool was constantly out of towels, wifi was available if you were lucky, etc, etc. I could go on and on giving examples of lousy service and the like. I'd firmly recommend skipping this hotel until the new management starts to handle the long list of issues most guests encounter.
The positive: Nice pools and beach, nice location The negative: Check-in was like a turkish market with a 30 minute wait in line Our rooms were not ready and only after babysitting and bugging them we received rooms after 16:30 The rooms are spacey but in bad condition, the furniture is stained, most of the electrical plugs dont work, TV didn't work, the sliding door didn't close properly, phone cable was faulty, we had a leaking bathroom sink and the shower is full of mildew. We had to call maintenance 3 times to get some of this sorted. The room floor was simply dirty. The Internet was down most of the time - over 5 days we maybe had 30% availability, calling reception was painful as most of the time they just dont pickup. When we went to reception they were very complacent about all of the problems and rudely taked to other people or used their mobile phone while talking to them. The pool has a lot of missing mosaics and you need to be careful not to hurt your self, the beach is great if you can get a sunbed as they don't have enough and many of them are broken. The sea has a lot of trash, plastic bags and plastic bottles within the netted swimming area. Towels are a big pain, if you want your towel changed than you need to beg and bug them in the evening as they promise to give towels back around 18:00 which doesn't happen as they don't have enough towels to change like any normal Hotel. Beach towels are also short, to get one you need to be lucky and guess when they will open the stand and they also refuse to change the towels due to the shortage. The dining room is also a saga, there is always a shortage of glasses or plates and some foods, most of the tabled sit with dirty plates for a long time so it's hard to find a table (we cleared a a table ourselves after asking the waiter and the waiter simply disappeared), the few tables that have table cloths are dirty and thge table cloths are not cleaned, day after day you see the same stains. The floors are sticky and dirty. A lot of the food is recycled and not fresh. We tried the sauna, what a joke, the cavity below and above the door make it impossible to use as it doesn't heat up. We registered for a shuttle from Aqaba back to the Hotel which never arrived, after 30 minutes we attempted to call the Hotel and they simply don't answer. After 12 tries we took a taxi. Of course complaining didn't do anything except for them sending bath robed which we didn't ask for to our room on the 5th night instead of them being there to begin with as stated in what is included. The staff have a bad attitude, we had a problem with our door key, they took a look at the card and said that everything is OK, after a second visit to the lobby they send a security guard with us to verify that there is a problem, and only then diod they simply issue a new card. Very negative attitude towards guests. I have never seen such a gap between the rating of a Hotel, 5 stars versus the reality of what you get.
This hotel is far from being 5 star. I had to wait 3 hours to get my room while other guests who arrived after me checked in immediately. I wasnt even offered the welcome drink that was supposed to be included in my booking. The minibar bar in my room consisted of 2 cans of diet pepsi and diet 7up. No bathrobe or slippers as advertised. The pool wasnt clean. The food was inedible, they charge 20 JD for a crappy buffet. There was a party at the beach club on the night i was there and i was refused entry by two rude bouncers because supposedly reserved for "families and couples". The hotel was full of russian tourists on an all inclusive package. The hotel is poorly managed and the staff is far from being up to 5 star standards. The only friendly stafg were the filipino workers at the lobby bar. Avoid at all costs, better pay a few bucks extra and enjoy a true 5 star experience at the movenpick next door. Truly disappointing.
"Skip this place and go directly to Movenpick 1 km further out"
At first everything looks good - but the misery starts already at check-in, where the confused personel takes forever to check you into the hotel. Then you soon discover that the resort is filled with drunk Russians. The pools are filled with alge - and very cold. There is probably not one "not broken" sun bed to find - and if you find one you can be sure that you find a vodka drinking russian in it already - as they reserved it with their towel around 5 in the morning - wonder how they got up after drinking all that vodka! The buffet is another very bad experience - the chicken looks like roadkill - and it takes forever to harvest just a little meat from the bones, and there is hardly any food to find. We stayed two days before we complained - and was moved to a different world at the Mövenpick resort next door - do yourself af favour and go there directly!
Your first impression is that this is a nice hotel. But you soon realise that it is far from the five star hotel it still pretends to be. Two stars would be more realistic - on a good day! It is run down, poorly managed and all in all a horrible place. The poor employees struggle but seem to have given up. There are way too few of them (one employee told us that 50 employees just left and many more were planning to). Food is really bad and the pool area a diaster. Most guests are Russian all-inclusive guests who seem to spend most of their time in the bar. We moved to the next door Movenpick resort after two nights - now there is a true five star experience!
