"Property is not perfect, but has some things that are superior to others...!"
I always stay here when I come to Rio for business. It's a no-brainer for me. Quite a few reviews complain about some of the furniture being a little worse for wear, and MANY complain about humidity in the rooms. Humidity was a problem at this hotel for a very long time, and in the last few months, they've put some kind of de-humidifier (') apparatus in the rooms, and this has made a world of difference. I no longer come into a damp room! I have noticed the hotel very deliberately make efforts to fix this, and they're doing a good job so far. Yes, the furniture has some dints and scratches, but this is still a 3-star property. What this hotel has that is superior, in my mind (and the reason I always stay here): -By far the best balcony you will get in any hotel in the area. Massive balconies, big opening sliding doors you can leave open to let the beautiful see breeze in, and a superior view to any other hotel in the area, all from your room (as opposed to a good view in a common space!). -THE best gym I have ever seen in any hotel. MUCH better than your average "fitness room". This is practicallly a gym away from your regular gym, and it's open 24 hours, too. -Breakfast is fantastic here. -Staff are pleasant and really make an effort to give you a good experience. -The pool and spa area is large and pleasant, with lots of different activities, as well as a beauty spa where you can get outdoor massages. Yes, the hotel needs to do a few renovations, but this place is by no means a dive, and the service is great. If view, fresh air, and location are important to you, stay here. My only gripes are that the powerpoints (tomadas) need to be updated to the regulation 3-pronged ones. These days many new appliances come with the 3 prongs in Brazil, and it is silly to have to travel with an adapter in the same country you live in. It's also annoying to have to request one from the reception. My (minor) gripe is that I like a hotel with an iron in the rooms. This makes the place a little less attractive for business travellers.
"Perfect service "
Everyone in the staff were friendly and helpful! Comfortable room and bed, clean. Very nice breakfast, perfect. Wonderful pool area with a good bar service. Nice location, very close to the beach where Sheraton have their own chairs and you get to borrow their towels, it's not Copacabana but the only difference is that there are fewer people on the Barra da Tijuca beaches which in my opinion is better. If you like paying more to live near a very crowded beach, Copacabana and Ipanema is your choice. The only negative about Sheraton Barra is the dated furniture and decorations in the room, I didn't get a modern luxury feeling. In reality this had a very little negative effect. I would definitely visit again!
"Massively let down by the tired rooms"
There are many good things about this hotel. It's location, facilities, breakfast. The lobby is nice and promises much more. However it's rooms are probably the worst I've stayed in and not what I was expecting from a Sheraton. Mine was tired and dated which I can handle but it smelt musty and gave the impression of lacking cleanliness. The windows dirty, curtains shabby, carpet grubby and appeared unvacumed. The toilet seemed clean but mirror smeary, shower has sand in the corners and in a state of disrepair and the washing line all dotted with bits of mould. My safe was not working - out of battery and could not contact reception due to a faulty phone. The sheets dealt damp and duvet cover had some yellow marks on it. A great view from the balcony at least. I stayed in the 'preferred guest room'. I would hate to see what the other rooms were like.
"Good location, away from the noise of Copacabana"
Overall the hotel is average, but has a very nice stretch of beach just in front, food is good and not too pricy. Other than that nothing fancy. Rooms do require renovation despite being comfortable. Sleeping quality id good, internet in the room was not working well but the view is great and sitting at the balcony is very relaxing. Did not use any facilities other than the meeting rooms. its a hotel to stay for a couple of days and use the beach in front while exploring Rio. A bit far from the main attractions if tourism is your main reason for visiting.
"good location, nice staff"
There was some really nice people in the reception. The parking is ovepriced but there was always enough parking spots at the nearby streets. Dangerous ' who cares, it was a rented car. Nice swimming pool. The beach was wonderful. Nice restaurants and shopping centers nearby.
