"Great Hotel, amazing service!"
We came for 11 days and never have we stayed anywhere where the staff were so helpful! The rooms may be a little dated but over all the hotel is nice and clean. The staff really went out of their way to help us and make sure we had a great time in Brazil. Would strongly recommend this hotel!
"It's good, not great, but would return"
Firstly, one of the 5 stars that this hotel has to be due to it's location, which is directly opposite the beach, and this is definitely one of it's huge bonuses. The hotel is looking quite tired in places and from what I've heard they may be in the process of a refurbishment. The room we had (1509) was large & clean with a view of the Ocean. The room wasn't quite what we had been expecting. The lack of Sheraton Signature bed was slightly disappointing, but the bed was very comfortable and a good size. The carpeted area is in need of replacing and some of the furniture needs replacing as it's clearly in need of being replaced. The bathroom seemed to be missing a hairdryer, but was generally clean and of a good size. This room is located near the lifts (elevators) and they can be quite noisy, and as the doors don't soft close, many will bang if your fellow guests just let the doors go. The pool area is quite large, although one of the small pools was blocked off. It's a good area, but seems to be very busy at weekends. It's clean and functional, and the loungers are comfortable. The food available at the pool area is also good, but it is expensive compared to some of the places nearby. They also claim that for "safety" reasons you can only consume drinks from the pool bar. The service from the pool bar is good, can be quite slow, but generally good, and the small tables they bring with your drinks & ice buckets add to the service. We made breakfast a couple of times and what was on offer was excellent, unfortunately like most breakfast buffets it's like the gates to hell, as people charge about and just expect you to get out their way so they can get that bread roll. The hotel staff were all very friendly and special thanks to Roberto on reception who was extremely helpful on our arrival and on our departure. Would definitely stay here again.
"A poor cousin of a 5 star hotel"
Having stayed at the leblon Sheraton, Sofitel and jw Marriott, this hotel does not compare. 3 star. Rooms dated and damp smelling, but big. Facilities were poorly maintained (e.g toilet in restaurant was full of mould on wall and lifts did not work). Location has limited other options for breakfast. This one was a buffet and felt like a school canteen, chaotic, poor food and staff rushed off their feet, tables were dirty. Pool area was nice. Would be really good if Cleaner's could take away rubbish from under chairs though. The concierge service was fantastic however. Lovely and helpful team. Well done there!
"Thank you Sheraton"
Yes, the room is a bit tired ... but. Great air conditioning system, great shower, amazing mattress.... great staff. Very friendly and polite and a Huge breakfast buffet And to top all this, just cross the street and you are on the beach. Will definitely go back :)
"Property is not perfect, but has some things that are superior to others...!"
I always stay here when I come to Rio for business. It's a no-brainer for me. Quite a few reviews complain about some of the furniture being a little worse for wear, and MANY complain about humidity in the rooms. Humidity was a problem at this hotel for a very long time, and in the last few months, they've put some kind of de-humidifier (') apparatus in the rooms, and this has made a world of difference. I no longer come into a damp room! I have noticed the hotel very deliberately make efforts to fix this, and they're doing a good job so far. Yes, the furniture has some dints and scratches, but this is still a 3-star property. What this hotel has that is superior, in my mind (and the reason I always stay here): -By far the best balcony you will get in any hotel in the area. Massive balconies, big opening sliding doors you can leave open to let the beautiful see breeze in, and a superior view to any other hotel in the area, all from your room (as opposed to a good view in a common space!). -THE best gym I have ever seen in any hotel. MUCH better than your average "fitness room". This is practicallly a gym away from your regular gym, and it's open 24 hours, too. -Breakfast is fantastic here. -Staff are pleasant and really make an effort to give you a good experience. -The pool and spa area is large and pleasant, with lots of different activities, as well as a beauty spa where you can get outdoor massages. Yes, the hotel needs to do a few renovations, but this place is by no means a dive, and the service is great. If view, fresh air, and location are important to you, stay here. My only gripes are that the powerpoints (tomadas) need to be updated to the regulation 3-pronged ones. These days many new appliances come with the 3 prongs in Brazil, and it is silly to have to travel with an adapter in the same country you live in. It's also annoying to have to request one from the reception. My (minor) gripe is that I like a hotel with an iron in the rooms. This makes the place a little less attractive for business travellers.
