"That Can't be a Sheraton"
This hotel is not in conditions to receive anyone. I'll be calling the department of public health about it. Seriously, what's going on here' The hotel is falling apart, the rooms are dirty, humid, nothing works, floors are dirty, and the carpet is very old. The rooms are so smelly that my 8-years-old daughter got seek after the first day. I usually stay at Sheraton all over the world. I’m a Starwood Preferred Guest. But I never, never in all my life, have seen a Sheraton hotel under this condition. This is horrible to the Sheraton’s image. Frankly, Sheraton, take your brand out of this hotel as fast as you can!
"Far behind its brand recognition: Renovation (of guest rooms) first"
The lobby and the public areas look good and they are renovated. Most likely it happened because of the world cup. The gym and the pool area are nice, too. The hotel staff is very friendly. I want to highlight one person in particular as an outstanding individual, which is Richard, maitre of the restaurant. Not only that he speaks fluently English, French and Portuguese, it is his service orientation and business acumen that makes him outstanding service professional. But when you go to a hotel, you do not only want a good looking lobby. Unfortunately, the rooms that I experienced appealed "in a bad shape", got hinged doors, even the bathroom has seen better days. The first room which I should go to after check in, got mold on the bathroom walls (#416) and it smelled musty in the entire apartment. So I asked for another room which I´ve got (#517) immediately. This one was clean but also got hinged doors, the room appealed in a very used shape, with very used interior. Trying to talk positive, the bed was good and hard (which I like), the shower was strong and hot (which I like too), the breakfast buffet is amazing. Well, you may say -- this is very good quality for Brazilian hotel. I do not think so. Sheraton is not a budget hotel, the brand wants to be seen as a luxury hotel. Let me say, from the outside the Sheraton towers look stylish, the interior is stylish too, the environment outside and the beach look very good too. I think the personnel work hard to keep the guests happy, most likely knowing that there is something to compensate for. How much better would it be to get to an excited customer experience' Well the management has to address this topic. There are some other hotels in the same area, so better renovate the rooms and enjoy good feedbacks of furious customers.
"Great Stay and great staff"
I was here for vacation about 2 weeks ago. I don't understand all the negative reviews. The property was lovely, the room was clean and awesome.. the balcony overlooking the beach was awesome. The staff was wonderful and did speak English (bonus for any English speakers staying there). I especially want to commend Rafela (I hope I spelled her name correctly ) at the front desk. I had a mishap at check in, but she was wonderful with helping me get it resolved. Also, their breakfast buffet was Amazing. If I have another opportunity to visit Rio, I would stay here again.
"MARIO THE KING OF THE CASTLE"
As a Lifetime Platinum member it is always a pleasure visiting well managed hotels. The GM is from Uruguay. The Sheraton Barra was welcoming -- comfortable -- glorious beach and excellent restaurant at acceptable prices. Staff at reception at all times were warm and the smile of Priscilla was a joy to all. Breakfast was excellent and relaxing. The pool area - clean however some work requires to be done on the actual pool where tiles are missing. Internet and A/C were very good --no problems. It was always reassuring to know that Cristina -The Guest Relations Director was available if there were any problems. The sole negative --the wastage of water in the rooms as there are no plugs to hold water in the sinks TOGETHER WITH ENORMOUS WATER PRESSURE -- turn the pressure down and save millions of litres of water in a year !! I understand that the hotel will start refurbishing in some months and hopefully an Executive Lounge will be created. The most positive person i met was Senor Mario who with great kindness and charm does all the cooking of eggs each day and at times under great pressure. He is so polite to all guests and if there is a staff member of the month i would strongly recommend him. General Manager you are lucky to have such a wonderful person. I look forward to returning and strongly recommend.
"I miss this place already "
Just got back to the US after staying at the resort for ten days. Not one problem. The view of the beach from our room--amazing. The daily buffet--YUM!!! The concierge - Igor, miss and love you. Thanks for everything!!! The sweet girl who cleans our room and layed out my dress on the bed to wear out at night -- so nice! The burger and drinks served at the pool by super sweet guys- again... YUM! The bus that stops right outside the hotel that takes you everywhere -- very convenient. Only negative was the overwhelming smell of cologne-like spray used in common areas. Hubby like it though... Anyway...we'll be back !
