"What a Welcome"
Arrived at the Ramada Hotel in Berlin, we are visiting our Grandson who is studying at Berlin University. First impressions of the Hotel are good, we arrived early but our room was ready so we could check in. We had been travelling since 3 am so needed to rest the weary bones. Comfortable clean room but no tea or coffee making facilities in the room. We come downstairs to the restaurant desperate for a coffee only to be turned away. The restaurant and bar are off limits for normal hotel guests, they are reserved for a party. Well it's a bit inconvenient but we can at least grab a coffee in the snack bar of the hotel next door. After a rest we are looking forward to dining in the hotel. Much to our surprise we are turned away again - bar and restaurant are off limits. We are again directed with no apology to the snack bar in the hotel next door. Quite annoyed by this point as there was very little on the menu I could eat as I have a wheat allergy. We couldn't look further afield as my husband has mobility difficulties. We spotted a hot buffet laid out and a few things ok for me to eat in the snack bar, but we were again told that the hot buffet was only available for a group. I ended up with a church mouse ham and cheese salad, I've had better on a motorway service station. I have never been treated like this in a four star hotel before and Ramada will not get the opportunity to treat me like this again. We are here until Monday 24th October and will not be spending a cent more in this hotel now or in the future,
"A good hotel in a good location"
We spent 5 nights in the Ramada Alexanderplatz in September. The hotel was very comfortable, with clean, modern bedrooms and a good bathroom. The room was really quiet, despite its location on a busy road. The hotel is about 7 minutes walk about from Alexanderplatz station, which is a big hub for public transport, enabling ready transport across Berlin. A good place to stay for sight-seeing.
Rooms are equipped to a high standard. The staff are always helpful and polite. Breakfast is plentiful and varied to accommodate all tastes. Evening service in restaurant is sometimes slow! Possibly due to lack of staff' But the food is good. Easy access to tram, bus, and U and S train services.
Very very nice stay and the kindness of the staff was very good. I think I'll stay here again next year because this location is really friendly . The room was tidy and clean . The food was OK; So I really enjoyed my stay at the Ramada!!!
"Paying extra for non-smoking!"
I arrived at the hotel at a pretty reasonable hour of 11am, despite this being earlier than the required check-in time I was assured it was no problem and they had rooms available. However - and this is the first time this has ever happened - the only rooms left in my request for 'Non-smoking' were executive rooms. That's fine by me if I get an upgrade - not so good when I am asked to pay an extra 10euros per night! the other option was to accept my original booking - but in a 'smoking' room. I perhaps should have pushed the matter but being tired from a very early flight I decided to pay. I did however, refuse to pay for anything further in the hotel by ensuring that I took all my meals outside in the city (to be honest - the best thing as there are some amazing places ) I can't comment on the food at the hotel, the wifi was really hit and miss and the shower door did not close properly so water leaked over the bathroom floor. However, the room was clean and tidy. I did find it odd that I was given 2 single duvets for a double bed. I was also surprised that water wasn't available in the room after the first day/night. Once you have drunk the small bottle provided that is all you are given. I have stayed in many hotels in Berlin - would I stay here again - meh...debatable. Not awful but I have had better for less.
